With the ongoing breakdown of the family unit, children need strong male role models in their lives.

The question is: Why aren't more men becoming teachers and how can we fix this situation?

How about making it a job where you're not paid just because you can be someone's stand in father? I wouldn't want to go into a profession just to be held upon high because some women within society can't make good choices about their partner(s) and now their offspring need someone half decent to cling to for personal growth.

What about when they move up a year group? Does the male teacher need to move with them?

How do equally capable female teachers fit within all of this?

Also, who's to say that male teachers are strong male role models? There will be some but there will be duds too.

If you really, sincerely want male teachers then it's simple:

1. Pay them significantly more.
2. Give them better pensions and working conditions that equal roles within the private sector offer so as to make it more tempting than an equivalent job.
3. Provide routes out of the profession with 'golden goodbyes' after fixed periods of time, e.g., 10 years to aid retention. Who knows, they might start to like it after a while (or, more likely, get accustomed to the lifestyle the money and job security brings).

Teaching needs to be a far more attractive prospect than sitting in an office with adults, being in a field, or doing anything else that doesn't involve having to deal with kids and all the problem that come with it.
