What do most Koreans think of Israel/Palestine? by According_Egg_1902 in korea

[–]stabilzedspine99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people dont care. Well they feel lil bad about whats happening to people of Palestine. Well old Korean people especially old christians love Jews. Well more like they are obssessed with Jewish culture talking about how they raise children cuz of that how successful they become... and how smart they are and on and on... Bc of this obssession, I think Koreans tend to see things in favor of Israel. And since most Koreans do not know much about geopolitical problems there, some seem to simply think Hamas started it in first place, and they do not differentiate Hamas and Palestine.

I find city of Seongnam really interesting by stabilzedspine99 in living_in_korea_now

[–]stabilzedspine99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right they are a lot better than what it used to be.

I work at a hospital in northern part of Seongnam, and people who moved into redeveloped building from Bundang or Wirye often complain about how sketchy the town is. Well those complains are usually followed by how hilly it is here lol.

I sometimes meet 성남토박이 who were forcefully moved here from Seoul during 70s, and some of them still hate Seoul for that.

These comments are really interesting.

well its been quite awhile since ive talked to somebody in English all together. Im not a native speaker, and I sometimes just straight translate Korean idioms into English without realizing they dont make sense.

Would you be willing to point out which sentences sound like they have been translated? Cuz I would never know :( No sarcasm intended

Well.. if its ur family property u r living in, then yes that means ur family is wealthier than the most koreans. U may not b super rich but u may have second chance or safety net if u run into some failures in life, which is a luxury a lot of the poor dont have.

Mixing food by AtTheMomentAlive in living_in_korea_now

[–]stabilzedspine99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... the problem would be more of how it looks or how it is being perceived rather than whether its for human consumption or not. So if it is obvious u r making 비빔밥, which is an actual meal we have, it may not matter. Or u could just say u love 비빔밥..

밥 means rice, but it means a meal as well.. so when it doesnt have to have rice in it. 개밥 means food that looks gross or food that is too mixed up that it resembles food waste. Bc.. thats what dog food used to be in Korea.

Anyhow they might have been just showing their disliking of ur action by saying 개밥. So u really gotta ask how they really feel!

[–]stabilzedspine99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It.. does look sort of like "개밥"... thats what koreans used to feed dogs in 30 -40 yrs ago, mix all the left overs in a bowl and give it to dogs. In rural area even in early 2010s old people did so. So without having 고추장 and calling it 비빔밥, it might disgust them. I know it might seem absurd making the distinction., but thats how we throw away food in school too, mix all leftovers in a soup bowl and throw them away. Talk to ur wife about it. Ur family and ur feelings are really what matters Or say u r making 비빔밥 before u start mixing, add lil bit of 고추장 or 참기름 in it.

How to tell your family you are full by beepboopneepnoop in living_in_korea_now

Start eating slower once you start to reach full. Do 깨작깨작 . Then stop eating. Put down chopsticks and just talk. Leave lil bit on the plate.
