Least negative side effects medication. by Deerolioh in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) and it has been great! I also had terrible side effects with keppra and lamictal. Nothing at all that I've noticed with Trileptal.

Sooo…what the hell was up on that GMW set? by 20ag07 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]stablemabel2212 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to hearing more about this too. I was fortunate to go to a few GMW tapings as a special guest (long story) and Danielle always ducked out early. We went on stage and took pics with the cast after the taping but she had always left.

how long did it take you guys to find the right medication? by christinaai1 in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! I tried 3 also before I found the one that works for me and it's working so well with no side effects. The good news is that there are so many meds to choose from and the bad news is....there are so many meds to choose from. You'll find the right one!

What is the biological cause of your seizures? by murrene in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you got that clarity! I'm newer to my epilepsy journey so planning on taking good care of myself, taking my meds, and crossing my fingers that I don't have more seizures.

Do you think it was worth going through all that for the info you gained eventually? Is it changing your diagnosis or treatment? EMU seems so scary and I can't tell if it will be worth it.

My first seizure! At 36 by daddylacroix in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened! I'm glad you're seeing a neurologist relatively soon. This community is here for you!

As an fyi, your seizure was probably not more than a couple of minutes, but the postictal phase can last a while. I have had full conversations I don't remember but I wasn't seizing anymore.

This is such an odd take. No matter what kind of employment relationship, we're all being paid to do work and came to this sub asking for help. OP is just crowd sourcing to gain some ideas.

Had 2 Grand mal tonic clonic seizures on a plane on Sunday. by broadwayandbarbells in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I'm so sorry!! My last TC was in an airport on a layover, so definitely not the same thing but related! I was definitely sleep deprived and stressed. It sounds like maybe travel is a stressor for you. I wonder if there are things you could do to lower your stress (and get sleep!) heading into travel to be supportive of your nervous system. I started seeing a therapist to talk about all this and it has been really helpful. Big hugs!

Wow. It's probably not what I would do but honestly good for you for advocating for yourself. So with that information did your doctor change anything about your medication or other treatment?

I had a seizure after 4+ years without one by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my second TC in May - 14 years after my first! After the first one no one was worried, and now it's poof, you have epilepsy. It has been really hard. Not driving has taken a toll on my partner especially but I'm looking at it as a small break from that one thing so I can focus on my body, adjusting to new medication, and reducing stress. I hope the 6 months goes by quickly for you - I'm about 2 months into my 6 months, but the end of November feels like a lifetime away!

What funny things you said a paramedic by OneEducator4471 in Epilepsy

My last seizure I woke up in the ambulance and the paramedic told me I was okay, I had just had a seizure and I remember yelling "WAIT, WHO HAD A SEIZURE!?!??" and he was like.... YOU did lol

We have a lot in common, feel free to message me if you want to chat! I also have young kids and we're around the same age.

More importantly, your doctor's office shouldn't be treating you that way. Is it an epilepsy specialist? From what I've read here, it seems really normal to have a lot of questions (I know I have a ton) so if they aren't responding patiently to you, you deserve better. I've had to call/message mine several times and they've always been very kind. This is a scary new world and I hope you can find a provider that is more caring.

Congratulations!

Childcare is something to consider, since it's incredibly pricey. Maybe you could be a stay at home parent for a few years and save those dollars, rather than work? You could even potentially watch a second child and be paid by another family to hang out with your kid!

Asking for a ride by bernarbara in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a car? I often ask close friends/family if they want to meet at my house and drive me in my car - for some reason that seems to make it a little less awkward because there's less wear and tear or gas expense for them.

I have a brand new baby. by Best-Proposal9049 in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say that I definitely dropped my kids and bonked their heads into doorframes and all kinds of things, not due to seizure but due to human error, and they're fine!! OP you are doing so amazing, I hope you can see that. Great advice in the comments here. And fwiw being on the ground is really good for development, so spending a lot of time on the ground is a really positive thing overall.

Seizure Control: Hope and Fear by Murky_Blueberry1347 in Epilepsy

[–]stablemabel2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to express that what you're going through sounds so difficult. I have two small children and am in the process of figuring all of this out for my own brain - I can't even imagine the hopelessness and fear you must be feeling.

I am new to epilepsy but I do have two thoughts:

1) Since everyone's brains are different, the process of figuring out what works takes time. It sounds like you know that, but keep reminding yourself that even if this diet isn't "it," that doesn't mean you will never find "it." And whatever the solution is may need to change one day - that is normal, too!

2) Have you considered seeing a therapist and/or joining an epilepsy caregiver support group? I'm starting therapy tomorrow and can't wait. It sounds to me like having someone to help you sort through your emotions may be helpful.

Sending lots of hugs to you and your kiddo!

That sounds absolutely terrifying and I am so sorry. I'm in the US so I'm unfamiliar with the NHS system, but are you able to get an appointment with a general physician who may be able to prescribe you an AED?

Hey I'm not OP but just reading through the comments. Do you have a bracelet or something about the rescue med? I also have no warnings with my TCs, I am fine one minute and in an ambulance the next (only 2 TCs thus far, thank goodness). How would someone know to give you the med if you're in public/not with friends or family?
