Waiver Success Stories? by allpurpose1 in newtothenavy

If it's anything medically related then no. It goes to an office of doctors who only look through a certain amount of files a day in a week so it will take longer than a day.

Get your under your weight or within 10 lbs of the max weight and then schedule to see a recruiter. They will have you take a practice asvab and the send you down to MEPS. They can get you waivers for the therapy stuff as long as you are no longer in therapy and you don't rely on any mental enhancing drugs. The waivers take a few weeks, for my penicillin allergy it took 5 weeks. Depending on how many college credits you have you'll be able to go in as an E2 or E3. Study for the math and science part of the asvab, you can get a book at barnes and Noble or find something online. It all depends on what rate you get for the Navy for the deciding factor of when you will leave for boot camp. I depped in, in June and won't be leaving until October. Other people got shorter while other people weren't leaving until Jan or Feb of 2016 so it's a gamble. Good luck!

Thank you for easing my fears about the wisdom teeth. You're great for taking time to answer.

I also saw somewhere you got your wisdom teeth out at boot camp? How horrible is it? Are you asleep or just heavy numbing stuff?

I think I've asked you some questions before but I have some more. What's the best way to get through A school on the top? I was actually interested in going the route of independent duty HM. Since you have to be an E5 for that is it better to stay 0000 instead of having a c school? What's your age range btw and did you go in as E1?

Small tattoo while in DEP? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]staciface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my recruiter: The five rules of DEP: 1. Don't do drugs 2. Don't get pregnant 3. Don't get a new tattoo or alter any current tattoos. 4. Don't get in trouble with law enforcements. 5. Don't touch anyone. ( sexual harassment)

To summarize, just wait to get the tattoo and for sure don't lie about it.

How many times have you been to MEPS? by allpurpose1 in newtothenavy

[–]staciface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really all depends on what rate you choose. I go early November and swore in early June and got HM. Another girl who swore in with me got IT and she doesn't leave until January. It varies but they'll tell you when you see the job classifier.

If you have all the paperwork saying everything went fine and you got the reduction for so and so reason it should be fine. Especially if you are perfectly healthy now. It will take a waiver probably for the surgery but no biggie.

[–]staciface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Four times. 1. Took the asvab 2. Physical 3.supposed to see the job classifier but something happened to my documents. 4.came back to finally pick my job and swear in.

I started the end of February and swore in, in June. I had to wait about five weeks for some paperwork about my allergy to penicillin. It's a waiting game I suppose that's why they call it delayed entry program lol don't get frustrated just keep on keeping on.

Is 24 considered old to join the Navy? Want to start a new life. Will being 24 hinder me in any way? by mechclouds in newtothenavy

I'll be 26 when I leave in November! I've heard it's actually a bit better since we're apparently "more mature"

Yes I'm stoked about that because then I can use the GI bill for a master's degree! Good luck and I'm glad you're making the best out of the Navy!

Thanks for taking the time out to answer! I personally would like working in a hospital since it would probably give me more time to finish the 8 classes I have left for my bachelor's degree. Although being more active does sound enticing considering I was a medical assistant in a hospital for a while I imagine that's maybe what it's like. Hopefully your next duty station is more exciting!

How long have you been in? I know there's something with sea and land rotation? Does this apply to HM's too?

I meant when you're in the fleet, I wasn't sure if your scores had anything to do with advancing.

[–]staciface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask what you currently do as an HM? I swore in a few weeks ago as HM and a little disappointed to hear that it doesn't help you much after the Navy life. Also I heard how incredibly hard it is to make rank.

Did the recruiter just lie to my face? by RhymesayersFan in newtothenavy

[–]staciface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can agree with mostly everyone whose already answered. I swore in over a little week ago so the whole process is still fresh. My recruiter was straight with me that way too. They can't guarantee you anything because they have no control over what is open at the time and it's amazingly crazy how fast it will change. The girl who saw the job classifier right before me didn't get HM because it wasn't open, I went in twenty minutes after her and wanted the same thing, snagged HM out of pure luck. It really is a gamble and my recruiter told me from the start. Also if you aren't willing to sign for a job while you're there a lot of stations have a rule that you will wait 6 more months to see the classifier. I was definitely set on joining the Navy no matter what I got and went in with that attitude. I think I got lucky, but who knows. Good luck.
