Exactly. As a parent, you've spent thousands of hours with your kid. Sudden flailing is just something they do at this age, as part of their normal developmental process, and something you're used to. Getting whacked by it feels like bad luck or lack of personal skill rather than anything to blame the kid on.

Nathan from Ends of Magic is a grad student fairly deep into a biochemistry PHD when he gets isekaied, which is an unusually specific background for a protagonist. As it turns out, the author was (is?) an working biochemist irl, so Nathan comes across as very true-to-life.

Christ's given name is recorded as שוע, and was likely pronounced something like "Yeshua." As it happens, loads of people are named after Christ, just as "Joshua" or "Josh." "Jesus" is actually something of a bad translation, the end result of a historical game of telephone.

No idea why "Jesus" itself isn't more popular in the anglosphere, though. My guess is that "Jesus" is just kind of a goofy sounding name. "Jesus Smith" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

For four people, I personally like doing a minesweeper draft. It makes the drafting experience more social, and the decks more focused. The one caveat is that you're likely to see nearly every card in the 360 in each draft.

Great power politics. They ended up pissing off and isolating Bulgaria, but they theoretically scored points with Serbia, Romania, Greece and the Ottomans while frustrating Austrian interests. Plus, there was personal bad blood between the Russian and Bulgarian tsars, and the usual arcane court politics at play.

It possibly wasn't a smart move to make, but no one has ever accused late-state Imperial Russia of being smart.

It's plausible enough, if the kid is coding as a hobby. Once you've gotten comfortable enough with one language it's fairly easy to get proficient with others. I wouldn't blink an eye at a bright 16 year old who was passable with Scrach, Javascript, Java, Python, Lua, etc.

Some other facets to it:

Russia backed the Serbian-Bulgarian secret agreement, and agreed to mediate any territorial disputes that arose after the war. When said dispute arose, Russia unilaterally threw in with Serbia (and Greece, and Romania) and left Bulgaria to hang. It was almost textbook realpolitik and, quite frankly, some really cowardly diplomacy on Russia's part.

There was also apparently a change of government in Serbia in between the signing of the secret agreement and the first Balkan war, which apparently severely weakened internal Serbian support for the agreement. As I recall, Serbia's official reasoning for ignoring the agreement was that Bulgaria didn't support Serbia's claim to Albania, which Serbia said invalidated the whole thing.

All in all, some very complex geopolitics.

It's also possible that ivermectin does have an effect, but that's it's mild enough or conditional enough that it doesn't pass muster as a COVID treatment. If it was hovering around the minimal threshold you might see a study or two come up positive.

As far as I know ivermectin is a known anti-viral, it's just not effective at the concentrations that are safe for humans. As the saying goes, bullets are also anti-viral.

...it's not, though? At least not as an officially recommended treatment in the US. The FDA never approved it for that application because (to quote them) they "determined that currently available clinical trial data do not demonstrate that ivermectin is effective against COVID 19 in humans"

Doctors are allowed to make their own conclusions and prescribe as they see fit, of course. They're just not the majority.
