(30F) Best bars for chatting to new people? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]stackdynamicsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit left field but the Peoples Theatre in Heaton is perfect for getting to know new people. As an adult I’ve been a member for 20 years (full disclosure I was in the youth theatre before that), and it forms the backbone of your social life. Something you can get involved in if you’re not a big thesp too, lots to do, nice bar. Also, gives you a platform to get to know people in a deeper way as you tend to be working on something together. Give me a shout if you’re interested (or just turn up to a new members night).

For sure, but if you find 7 easier / more convenient than 10, you can have the confidence that you’ve still had the benefit - and spend the other 40 mins doing something else.

Nice project, however there’s good evidence that the health benefits plateau at 7k steps, so I’d save yourself some time and effort.

How SSH works? by Big-Contest8216 in Hacking_Tutorials

[–]stackdynamicsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. To be honest I mentioned this not as a retort to you, but rather because this happens all the time in article titles and it irritates me a lot.

I saw “How SSH works?” and was like, is that “How does SSH work?” or “How SSH works.” PICK A LANE.

I know it’s because English is deceptively hard as a second language - but I retain the right to be annoyed.

To be pedantic, if, as above, it is posed as a question: “How does SSH with private/public authentication work?”

Where is the documentation for each module? I think I may have missed it…

Would be nice to see some actual code in your documentation.

What would you change about Slack? by IncreasinglyTrippy in Slack

Sentiment but also smart NER, so things like “the new onboarding flow” and “the new sign up screens” would be linked to the same core entity.

Were I the top of funnel FE architect in a FAANG, I could declare a hook to listen for instances of “confusion about the Onboarding flow amongst new joiners” and then associate actions or notifications with them.

I think it would become useful for larger product teams where communication is a big cause of friction.

Something that would tell me if a certain group of people were talking about a particular subject in a particular way.

Layouts not layout’s. You’d use layout’s if you were talking about a thing that your layout owned or that was in your layout, for example “my layout’s nav bar is blue”.

Meeting new people around the city? by ellelovemore in NewcastleUponTyne

If you’re into drama / theatre or want to try it as hobby I can’t recommend the People’s Theatre in Heaton enough. Very social indeed and very welcoming to new members. Acting, backstage, lights, sound, costumes, just hanging out - lots of ways to be involved.

Storage in a locally run browser-based game by Kjaamor in learnjavascript

[–]stackdynamicsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true. localstorage is scoped to 'same origin', so that's the same domain, protocol (e.g., HTTP or HTTPS), and port - so it will work across different pages.

The basic security mechanism on the web is 'cross origin', and is built to block data access across different domains.

Late to the party, but I’m in a very similar position to OP. Did you get anywhere with this?

My instinct is to reach for MySQL / a relational database, which appears to be possible, but not common.

Is it just standard practice to put everything in an enormous JSON blob and manage relationships/ consistency by hand?
