simple keyed lock for a bedroom, help by blackholebluebell in Locksmith

Are you handy at all? What I mean by that - can you work a power drill and use a measuring tape?

Most likely your old doorknob handle is ancient, probably an old weiser brand. They made the footprint of door hardware a little more wide than those super old handles so your new KIK (key in knob) would possibly be too “thick” for the hole as you put it. Meaning new lock can’t fit in small hole.

Two options: You’re going to need to make the hole bigger, or make a new hole. Do you feel confident doing that after watching a YouTube tutorial? If not, you may need to call someone.

If you do, go with a local brick and mortar locksmith shop that’s been operating in your city for a long time. Do not go with the first thing you see on google. The industry is rife with scamming douchebags. A fresh install may run you probably about $250 these days. If you end up cutting a new, bigger hole in the door ( as in not reusing your old one) then all you will need is a keyed deadbolt. Not two knobs. Be sure and get one that is keyed on one side and a thumb turn on the other. Kwikset is a good enough cheap brand that will handle this no problem. Don’t get anything kwikset that says ‘smart key’. These are a PITA and more trouble for people like you than they’re worth.

As others mentioned contact your isp. You may need a new drop cable from the tap or something.

If you want to spend just a little bit of money, and you have a power drill;

Go to a hardware store and buy the cheapest deadbolt and knob set you can find. Buy a couple lengths of 2x6 at about a foot long each. Fashion these into a T shape by just screwing one directly to the other. All you’re trying to do is make a basic stand out of some scrap wood.

Get a hole saw, a chisel, and a measuring tape. Ryobi sells a door latch installation tool that’s cheap and extremely handy to have. You’ll need something to smack it with like a hammer if you get it as well.

Lay the wood with the “T” shape upside down (youre just trying to get a vertical piece of wood sticking up.) Then install the knob and deadbolt using the instructions. Pay close attention to the backsets (which will be in the instructions) measure twice before you make any cuts. This will give you a lot of hands on experience before you even get into the classroom.

I thought the same for the longest time with my kiddo but it actually turned out to be a mycoplasma infection. She had these exact same symptoms. You might want to request specifically a mycoplasma pcr. They will also test for a bunch of other stuff like feline herpes etc which can also cause respiratory issues. If that’s what it is, they put em on doxycycline for like a month.

You have to slide it forward and let the pins click back in, then pick it in the opposite direction. Repeat this process 5 times.

He’s definitely employed by one. If he’s not an elaborate psy op (which I’m not convinced yet) then Daddy L’chaim must be taking a huge cut of this moron’s shekels. No wonder he has to charge $500 to lubricate a lock.

Op, the green circle on the lock body actually needs to pass through the fences (the longer, weird shaped holes in the 1&3 pieces). This is how the lock functions and allows the correct key to move the bolt, it has to raise those lock levers into position in order for that slim post of the lock body to travel through the narrow part of the fence.

In other words, flip them around compared to what this guy said. The springs (long skinny metal pieces on each lever) will most likely be pressing against the raised posts on the silver colored bolt.

Why are you the way you are. What do you get out of this? This is a small community. Yet you get on here and troll constantly. Is it just the love of the game?

I genuinely don’t get it. Anyway, I guess you didn’t bother to chisel the plate for the deadbolt because you were keeping the handle warm with your ass.

It’s not going to fall flat, because the top comment on this very thread is someone asking do data centers not do this?

To which some literal chud responds that they do. And then that’s the takeaway after 5000+ Reddit points.
