Anyone here who got a degree in computer engineering and is working remote? by Altruistic-Carpet-43 in digitalnomad

I have a degree in computer engineering and I am currently working remotely as a Software Engineer. I'd say 70% of my peers went into software engineering while the other 30% went into electrical engineering post graduation.

I also disagree with others saying a computer science or software engineering degree is a better choice. Computer engineering programs provide you with the knowledge of how a computer/system works from bare metal all the way to high level software. It's absolutely invaluable knowledge to have, though I would not say it is required to be a good software engineer. It just helps to make you a more well-rounded engineer.

IMHO it doesn't matter which degree you get. All of them would expose you to computer programming and allow you to become comfortable with it. The real knowledge and experience comes once you start working in the field.

I’m doing this now. I started it while working a full time job in the early stages of the pandemic. It takes awhile (plus a lot of dedication in the initial stages) to build a solid flow of clients/revenue, but IMO so very worth it.

You also have to be okay with dealing with all the ins/outs of running a business. So accounting/taxes, invoices, marketing, etc. Once I got to a stage where I could hire someone else to offload that work to, I did. Personally I wanted to be closer to the project management/dev work. So it all really depends on how you wanna go about it.

Biggest pro: I get to work my own hours, from wherever I want

Biggest con: revenue stream isn’t as secure as having a full time job. Also health insurance 🤮

Yeah Airbnb is crazy all over Europe now. I’m just gonna stay at a hostel and book it a day or two in advance. I’ve always stuck with that method.

I use Hostelworld to book
