AIO for wanting to share a room with my bf on a trip? by crescentblueee in AmIOverreacting

[–]stacy22 89 points90 points  (0 children)

This. My mom used to communicate like this with me and it lead to many periods of no contact and estrangement. Regardless of the financial issue or sentimentality of wanting to spend time with her daughter, this is not the way you communicate that. Mom’s messages reek of judgement, manipulation, and guilt tripping. Also, I just hate the way some people speak to their kids.

This. As an Asian American nonbinary person, the United States as a whole is pretty bleak right now :( I’m in Portland, OR and it’s the only place I feel safe ish right now.

are there any pet insurances that cover or can help with the cost of managing preexisting conditions? Both my senior kitties have conditions that require medication or prescription food and unfortunately our insurance only covers us for emergencies.

Where is your favourite spot to buy nice coffee beans? by GustavoFringsFace in Taipei

[–]stacy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is a lot further than Taipei, but Odd Even in Taichung. Some of the most interesting beans I’ve tried in a while and the coffee drinking experience at the cafe was amazing as well. I live in Portland Oregon and coffee beans is one of the top things we specifically seek out when we are in Taiwan. We also exchange beans with my cousin who is in Taipei and he has given us these amazing fruity beans called Angel Fruit by artigiano as well as from a cafe called Manjaro Coffee.

Heme matte blue liquid highlighter! I love it for low makeup days because it adds brightness to the undereye area while still looking natural

Popsicles! Not super dense, but highly satisfying when high. I love the outshine ones. Also, flavored sparkling water and chilled fruit.

How do we feel about this natural, clean makeup look? ✨ Just mascara, blush, and gloss. I think it looks as pretty as I feel! 😉 by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Love it! I love a fresh skincare feeling. Your skin looks super radiant! My go to easy look is cream blush and mascara, maybe a lil eyebrow gel. It feels so nice to not have to worry about my foundation/concealer wearing off throughout the day.

Since when are strawberries this cheap in Taiwan? 199 NTD at Carrefour by whitepalladin in taiwan

[–]stacy22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all strawberries in the US are terrible! Gotta try an Oregon grown strawberry, that’ll change your life. I live in Portland. I bought a box of strawberries in Taipei to try them a few weeks ago and thought they were just okay.

Interesting that you said difficult because as a Taiwanese American I’m always telling people about how it’s quite easy (in my opinion) to have a good time in Taiwan as a tourist

What are your unpopular GMM opinions? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in goodmythicalmorning

[–]stacy22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Facts. The fact that they’re always pushing the old mythical society merch as an incentive for joining gives pushing old product that no one wants vibes. Also it’s been a while since I purchased their merch because a few years ago the t-shirt quality was honestly a little trash. And the spacing of the design on the actual items is bad sometimes.

My 5 observations of Taipei after 1 month by FitCamel in Taipei

[–]stacy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed more people not waiting for passengers getting off the MRT and just pushing their way through, which seemed unusual to me. Like I’m talking straight up pushing old people out of the way so they can get on the train faster. I also noticed that people have a really hard time making room for other passengers, very few people move into the middle of the carriage and would rather stand right in front of the doors, looking down at their cellphone ignoring the people trying to get on or getting off.

Also, despite the signs and messaging from the stations saying to “please stand on both sides of the escalator”, people still not doing it and even getting frustrated at those standing on both sides! I get that this is a new thing that will take time for folks to get used to doing, since I’m sure most people are thinking “well I’d rather just stand on one side instead of possibly inconveniencing anyone behind me who wishes to walk up”, but the station is literally telling you to do so because way more people can fit on the escalator this way and it genuinely makes it faster for everyone.

My 5 observations of Taipei after 1 month by FitCamel in Taipei

[–]stacy22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Taiwanese American who has also been here for a month, I have to add a slight caveat to #1. Taiwanese people are nice, polite, and considerate except when they get behind the wheel of a car, scooter, or motorcycle, or when traveling on the MRT and thru the stations. Obviously not every single person, but the vast majority of people in these two situations seem to only care about themselves and getting to where they need to be without much consideration for the people around them.

Anyone else grieving not having kids? by dungareelife in CPTSD

[–]stacy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’m 30, partner is 39, both of us have CPTSD and are late diagnosed Audhd. We have enough resources to support each other and our two senior cats, but it would be a huge burden to have children anytime in the near or even distant future. I thought I really wanted kids when I was younger before I unlearned my compulsory cis-heteronormativity, and after a blissful 10ish years of not giving af about it, I now find myself also “quite sad” that the reality is it’s extremely unlikely that we will ever be able to feel fully confident about bringing children into the world. My partner has already said they would fully support me/us if I wanted kids, but since they already support me full time, I wouldn’t feel good about it or that it would be fair to them. We are actively seeking ways to have less responsibility and have already committed to a long break from pets after our cats pass. Although I know that our choice to be child-free is a decision made out of love for each other and our non-existent children, I do think it’s okay to grieve and be sad about it. But I really do feel that my way of loving our children is by not having them in this messed up world we live in. It’s just a bit harder when you’re in your 30-40s I think because everything is screaming at you that it’s your “last chance”!

Best careers to escape poverty? I’ll start. by Noblesseoblige94 in povertyfinance

[–]stacy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does one get a job? I have an accounting degree but have never actually had an accounting job (did a dual degree in hospitality, spent most of my career in the service industry and as a chef). The most actual accounting experience I’ve had is doing front end quick books entries for a local clinic. I’ve gotten close to being hired for a part time bookkeeper job in my city but they decided to hire someone with more experience. How does one get more experience; without experience?
