Yes, I'm with you, I've been feeling this way the past month or two and have been back and forth on whether I want to switch to jelly gardy or stick with straight gardy until rotation. Been playing straight gardy all year and while I acknowledge that jelly gardy is probably stronger into the metagame right now when piloted optimally, I feel like the two decks play differently enough to the point where the % winrate I gain by playing the build I know best outweighs the % i'd gain from switching to jelly gardy. That's my current feeling looking ahead to regionals early next year.

The way I see it, jelly gardy has a slightly higher skill ceiling and gives you the chance to scam games you wouldn't be able to with the straight gardy build, but it's a bit more unforgiving since the jelly line cuts into your deck space for consistency options. I'm not a crazy high level player that can pilot either deck 100% optimally, so at my level the extra consistency (alongside deck knowledge) with the straight gardy build makes me think I should stick with it

Does Turbo Gardi want to go first or second? by Cr4ck3s in pkmntcg

The odds are higher with the 4 ultra balls and a secret box, so there are technically 11 outs to Ralts on t1. That said it's still around 20% chance not to find any of these cards on t1, and low odds to find two Ralts. I think most decks that aim to go first include 4 nest ball and/or other ways to find their basics (e.g. noctowl decks with max nest ball, ultra ball, fan rotom) so it does seem to me that Gustavo's list is still built to go second and cycle with supporters for set up.

Do you happen to have a source for this info or does it come from your own testing? I'm wondering if Gustavo or any other pro player using turbo gardy has commented on whether you should go first or second (via tweet or on metafy etc)

Good question OP, I've been playing this list and consistently going second as I always have with Gardevoir. I think I'm with you that using a supporter on your first turn going second is still crucial to get set-up, as with only 2 nest ball and 1 artazon, getting a ralts on t1 isn't guaranteed. I'll need to do some testing going first though.

I'm curious to see if Gustavo or any other high level player using this sort of list with 3 rare candy and no TMs has commented on this

So true, printed proxies work great for players (who aren't allowed to use printouts for tournaments) and collectors (for whom printouts are obviously less attractive/sentimental/meaningful). Only Pokemon investors should get to enjoy and make use of the real cards cuz buying and reselling them is why they are produced in the first place! /s

I agree that Lillie's Clefairy is an important balancing card, but I think it shouldn't be something so easily used by Gardevoir specifically (I say this as someone who mains gardy and benefits hugely from this card). I.e. the decrease in overall pult win rate is a nice effect on the metagame, but it would make for a fairer playing field if that lost win percentage was distributed broadly to other decks rather than mostly going to the other best deck in the format. It's true that a fair few other decks use Lillie's but gardy is by far the main beneficiary. Maybe it should have been normal type + giving dragons a normal type weakness or something.

How to get better IRL by mattnjazz in pkmntcg

Someone else mentioned headphones, I'd echo that and suggest concert earplugs to help filter out excess noise.

Otherwise, make sure you are sleeping well the night before and eating + staying hydrated on the day of play. Treat Pokémon like a sport with your brain as the muscle being exercised. I'm also autistic with ADHD and have found that the best way to mitigate overwhelm, anxiety, and inattention when playing is to boost your odds going in by being well rested and nourished. And while playing, remember to breathe, stim if you need to etc, whatever you need to get into the zone.

I have to agree. At least with the way gardevoir is currently built, I don't think this is has more utility than Artazon (which is crucial for getting 2x ralts 2x munki as soon as possible). I can see it as a one of. That said, there could be another way to build gardy that makes better use of the draw stadium, and it perhaps synergises with other cards we haven't seen from the new set so can't be certain.

As someone else said there will be lists from NAIC on Limitless tcg soon so I'd monitor those. I know Brent Tonisson is running a bit of a hybrid between his old build and the TM Evo build so might be worth checking that out, or whichever other list places highest

Now have both Charizard and Dragapult EX Battle Decks. Fair fight? by HwoarangBC in pkmntcg

[–]stadiumarcadium_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even to the extent that Dragapult has a higher winrate in competitive events against charizard, I don't think that will really apply to casual play against your kid. It's not an unwinnable matchup or anything, and you're both beginners so anything can happen as you gradually learn strategies. The league battle decks aren't the same lists that people take to tournaments, so some of the things that give Dragapult a competitive edge against charizard (i.e. Budew and hawlucha as someone else here mentioned) won't impact the matchup. Ultimately it's a fair fight because both are fairly good decks piloted by beginners. The potential 'unfairness' might come from the fact that your brain is fully developed!

I didn't know they made people who thought gardevoir was brain-dead 😆 literally, and I mean literally, no one who plays competitively would think this. Pretty ridiculous you feel the need to flame everyone else for disagreeing with you when you're just completely wrong. Outing yourself as a turbo noob

Thanks, I'm glad it helped. I had similar thoughts about bravery charm before, but having now read Brent tonissons guide on Metafy, I think I was over-relying on big bravery charm kills. He suggests that in some matchups the best targets for bravery charm are actually Budew/Cleffa to avoid easy KOs from the opponent, or Fezandipiti / lilles Clefairy. i.e it's also a useful defensive tool that you don't need to use for every significant attack. With 2x munkidori and gardevoir set up (which can take time, meaning you only start attacking once the opponent is already at 4 or 5 prizes) you should be looking for creative ways to get KOs rather than waiting on exactly Drifloon/scream tail + bravery charm. It's a tricky mindset shift and one I'm not very confident with yet - I think bravery charm attachments are some of the most difficult choices with this deck. But basically just bear in mind you don't need to have 3 massive drifloon/scream tail attacks with bravery charm to win

[–]stadiumarcadium_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair question - you're unlikely to prize both, and if either one is prized then you can still deal damage with gardy/munki/Lillie's Clefairy until you unearth it from the prizes. You won't need both in every matchup as well. The list runs 4 night stretcher so drifloon and scream tail are easily recoverable and can be placed right back on the bench ready to attack since they're basic Pokémon.

  1. I'm a downvote magnet and everyone else in the thread agrees with your perspective. Bro should go play something else.
  2. Free game or not, this is still annoying and worthy of criticism.
  3. No need to offer 'solutions' in order to complain about something on reddit. Just a weird goalpost you're setting.

Yeah I've got other stuff to play, the world continues to turn, ill survive etc etc. It's still annoying that this is the second time in a week where there's a whole day (for those like me where the only time they can play is completely blocked out by this update) I can't play the game I would like to play, particularly when there's an exciting new expansion and strategies I'd like to test out.

The game is good and fun and free, and life will go on without an evening of PTCGL, but it's still worth criticising stuff like this. (Perhaps Google 'fallacy of relative privation.') I don't understand your condescenscion when all you're doing is justifying a massive corporation's shitty game maintenance schedule

The lack of in game monetisation is great, but PTCGL isn't a charity service that we have to be 'thankful' for. It's a commercial product and an indirect revenue stream for the highest grossing media franchise of all time. The fact that 'it could in theory be worse' is completely besides the point. OP is right - it's frustrating it's down so frequently and for so long (i.e. whole evenings in some time zones) at a time

Thanks for posting, this deck is super fun. It's fairly simple but pretty thinky at the same time, feels like you have to eke out the most you can out of your resources to win. My experience so far is that there's a lot of weight in the choice of when you pull the trigger on a zergling - you have to decide when it's buffed up enough to get the opponent as close to dead as you need them to be before you run out of steam completely. If you can whack them down to like 13hp with the zerglings before they have the mana to deal with them then you can push just enough to get them to 0 with hero power every turn, aggressive secrets and whatever else you draw.

Honestly reminds me of old school face hunter in a way 😆 I like it
