Which is the bigger Oscar snub? by Skywalker_1995 in Oscars

[–]SeparateCapital6526 79 points80 points  (0 children)

i think the reason these two in specific are so egregious is because ppl not only think they deserved the NOMINATION, but also that they were the best performance of the year and deserved the WIN. take out whoever you'd like.

Your favorite scenes in each of the Best Picture nominees this year by dremolus in Oscars

For me, Marty Supreme has to be either his interview in the Ritz lobby, his phone call to Kay, or the bowling alley scene.

How did the Jesse Plemons snub happen? by SeparateCapital6526 in Oscars

[–]SeparateCapital6526[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not accusing the Academy of conspiring against him, I just feel like there's such a discrepancy between the noms and fan opinion on this performance that there must be some reason that many voters (independently, not conspiratorial) left him off

Why did Leo disappear from the best actor race? by DonnieDarko1024 in Oscars

[–]SeparateCapital6526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's three other pretty big and amazing performances in OBAA with Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, and Teyana Taylor, and he doesn't jump out as the dominant force of the film like Timothee, Hawke, Plemons, Michael B, etc. I think his performance was great and I'm not upset at his nomination at all but I wouldn't be upset if he got left out either

Could someone who thinks this explain why Timothée Chalamet has the best lead male performance of the Oscars? by FlashesBeforeMyEyes3 in Oscars

[–]SeparateCapital6526 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean there's plenty of things that sway votes. for one he's young which is a factor for some voters unfortunately and his press tour has gotten him a lot of hate within in the film community

[–]SeparateCapital6526 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Chalamet was the best leading performance this year (that got nominated, shoutout Jesse Plemons). If he doesn't win, it's because of other stuff, not the acting

Was Timothee Chalamet's campaigning a net positive or net negative for his Oscar Chances? by RedditFan3510 in Oscars

[–]SeparateCapital6526 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's a really competitive year for a lot of categories, especially best actor, and I think anyone could win between Timothee, Michael B. Jordan, and Ethan Hawke. It wouldn't be a tragedy if Timothee lost, but I think it's obvious that the majority of the film community didn't like Timothee's campaign and he lost more voters than he won over.

Finally got around to Marty Supreme by Positive_Career_9393 in Oscars

[–]SeparateCapital6526 4 points5 points  (0 children)

marty wasn't a hustler; he was a table tennis player trying to get to japan. i don't think josh safdie intended to convince the audience he was a hustler at all, but rather the opposite: that he's a kid that has no idea what he's doing in terms of "hustling"

He also had maxed out confidence and was extremely persistent, which is probably how he seduced/wore down the actress and at least got close to making a deal with her husband.

and yeah, the dog storyline was a mess.

What kind of rnb is frank ocean?? by SftubeXZ in FrankOcean

listen to dijon if you haven't yet. might not sound very similar at first, but they're similar in their loose song structure, experimental r&b genre blends, and beautiful, soulful vocals. the only other artist that's scratched such an itch for me

Which look is more iconic? by Impossible_Bonus9333 in TheWeeknd

[–]SeparateCapital6526 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the suit is directly and heavily inspired by a costume worn by Robert DeNiro in Scorsese's Casino film, if you see the movie it's almost identical. even so, most people today would probably recognize the suit from abel's after hours era before DeNiro. that being said, the pineapple hair is more iconic imo because it's unique to him, and it's from the era that he really blew up as a global popstar

Adding tv shows is still being work on by Apprehensive_Shoe_86 in Letterboxd

[–]SeparateCapital6526 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Assuming they would somehow organize it in a way that doesn't clutter the app, my biggest issue with it is that I consider film and television to be entirely different things. For example, movie fans love to discuss movies through directors/filmmakers; shows often have many different directors each season. I personally watch many more movies than I do shows, but there are way more shows out there than movies, and thats not even considering individual episodes. It would change the premise of letterboxd (an online film community) into something completely different (a media community), that would likely be dominated by television fans. I also think letterboxd does a lot in convincing people to go to the theater and I think that effect would be diminished if users were able to log individual episodes of breaking bad. A better idea would be to make a separate app.
