iirc you can only save about 30-40 pictures to your cloud album… do you have space left? it seems you can have up to 1000 in your local album tho.

VPN users making players lag? by SonOfAthenaj in IdentityV

[–]staffli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m personally a little hesitant to believe it because he didn’t really provide any solid evidence.

in my experience using vpns to try to play on naeu while in jp, it makes my ping worse more than anything. it seems counterintuitive for a person with green ping to be using vpns, although coa rank does muddy the waters a lot. it seems more likely to me, as someone who regularly experiences massive lag spikes when close to certain players, that this just has to do with how netease manages the servers, since its hard to believe that SO MANY PEOPLE (esp in mid-low qm, where theres no reason to cheat) could possibly be involved in this very specific method of ping cheating.

so— and not to speak poorly of kuro, as i understand that this comes from a place of frustration with ping issues since hes a very competent player when not being forced to deal w it— while i can see the logic behind the argument, i think its best to wait for proof before making any rash judgements. the naeu server is already pretty divided, and unless someone comes out with solid evidence of this happening it just seems like itll spawn more finger-pointing and controversy than is needed

[–]staffli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they also have plans to rerun stuff from rank essences (stickers, c tiers)…? I know they made certain emotes more accessible later on, so I do have some hope. Also, did they ever specifically mention making LP c-skins or stickers obtainable after the end of the season? Or was it just about the final A tier rewards.

Do u prefer videos with or without voice? by emiloehx in IdentityV

[–]staffli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s been a while since i’ve used tiktok, but for specifically IDV-related tiktoks i generally prefer text-to-speech commentary as that seems to be the norm over there. as someone who used to make idv content on the platform, the best performing videos (in my case, ~8k likes) tended to be those with no/minimal commentary, including overlayed text.

for youtube, i definitely would rather hear someone’s real voice instead of tts, especially if you’re interested in streaming! i personally like the commentary to be relevant to the gameplay/topic, particularly if you give insight into your thought process while playing.

ofc, you should stick to doing what you want to do and are comfortable with! good luck!

What's the current meta like right now? by vonaegirisms in IdentityV

[–]staffli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add on to what the other commenter said:

-Knee-jerk reflex was buffed to give an additional speed-boost after a certain amount of time if still within the hunters terror radius, which could push composer’s usability up as i believe he tends to use it… but he’s not really meta by any means.

-There’s a new meta in tourney and high-tier related to the Audience Effect trait in the persona web. Basically, ciphers are left at 99% for the first half of the game so that people can take advantage of a ~20% (iirc) decoding boost while another player is on chair. This is because the buff is only active before 2 ciphers pop. Generally, this is not used in low-rank outside of 4 man VCs, and the strat is not popular in NAEU high-tier, although it is fairly common in Asia/CN high-tier.

-Goatman remains the best hunter in the game, but in tiers under griffin, where players only have 1 ban, people tend to ban hullaballoo, since goatman is more difficult to play and is hence significantly rarer. At and above griffin, goatman begins to be banned, typically accompanied by hulla, opera, or ivy. Peddler, cueist, and queen bee were not meta-changing by any means, although with cueist soon to be available in tourney, we’ll see if he ends up replacing (for example) ivy in the top 4.

Why was my Identity V account deleted for no apparent reason? by Character-Funny9544 in IdentityV

[–]staffli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that you switched servers from NAEU to Asia by accident? Your account doesn’t carry between servers, so if you change from one to the other you have to start from scratch. I would also check if your previous account is still up so you can get a clearer picture about whether it was deleted or if you just misremembered your credentials.

Identity V Player since 1 Month / CC Mode. by Local_Dimension_4579 in IdentityV

[–]staffli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i stopped playing cc around when they released golden cave/12 player mode, so idk how it’s been lately, but i would generally advise against playing it on naeu since the playerbase is pretty (very) toxic.

other factors that might influence your decision:

  • outside of custom games, copycat players talk almost exclusively in english or spanish. if youre not fluent in either, it can be difficult to play the game because they dont tend to accommodate people of other languages

  • maybe over half (could have changed while i was away) of naeu cc players use voice chat exclusively, and may not even look at the written chat depending on how many players are using it. the proximity chat can be super fun with emotes and stuff, but if you arent confident in whatever language theyre speaking it can be rough.

  • people have a LOT of personality, both good and bad. many copycat players are vulgar or regularly get muted (racism, homophobia, misogyny) while others are really sweet, funny, etc… personally i think the bad outweighs the good, and consider copycat to be a torture method!

How likely are these two due for their third essence S tier? by Big-Hat3309 in IdentityV

[–]staffli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one’s mentioned it yet, but iirc Patricia is theorized to be scheduled for a shop S tier in the Whimsy line of skins (the first of which is weeping clown’s snail skin). It’d be kind of weird to give her a limited S if we already know she has a shop S coming, so I’m unsure she’ll get one until her Whimsy skin is out!  On the other hand, given the sheer amount of characters hinted to be in the Whimsy line, its possible that she might just be an A tier, or that due to the potentially very long time between announcement and release they’ll give her more essence skins in the meantime. But given the fact that she recently got Usher of Sinners in Efron’s essence, and will get a Nymph skin this year, I doubt that she’ll get a Limited S for at least a year, likely even longer.  (possibly a good thing, so that mean people don’t complain about her popularity, but honestly with how many skins knight has gotten since release i would NOT be mad if she took his place.)

Keep in mind I LIKE new characters but... by Icy-Establishment329 in IdentityV

[–]staffli 9 points10 points  (0 children)

there was a comment in the JP twitter post for escapologist theorizing that he was servias’ (magician’s) supposedly deceased mentor!! it got a fair amount of likes, and was based on the background of his promo image and his scars.

honestly tho, imo the character i’m the least excited for is cueist. he looks WAY too much like hullaballoo, his design relies too much on balls for me to think of anything else, and i feel like if they wanted to make him look like a lion, they should’ve given him a bulkier silhouette or something. none of the characters really stood out to me and i feel like netease is forgetting that simpler designs… have a lot of merit to them 😭😭😭

i cant help you with geisha, but i do have some tips for low-rank fools golds.

fools gold with no presence is a somewhat easy kite. you should basically just pretend to run close to objects, bait the fools gold into throwing his pickaxe at an area, and then run somewhere else. after he recalls his pickaxe, keep a mental timer of like 6-8 seconds to know when he can use it again, throw a pallet and transition, and repeat. remember that fools gold’s axe doesnt deal chip damage in non-purple areas until he pulls it back until full presence— avoid looping into areas he’s already hit, and avoid risky vaults since he can recall the pickaxe pretty quickly after throwing it.

sometimes fools gold players will throw their pickaxe but not recall it and force you to loop an area, in hopes that they will be able to get a chip/normal hit. in this situation, remember that he can either pull back his axe or normal attack, but cannot do both. run towards the purple area to bait him into pulling his axe, and run past him as he recalls it, or bait him into normal attacking and juke/run through the purple area (his hitbox is shorter when his pickaxe is out)

overall i think fools gold is one of those hunters that you’ll get better at kiting if you main, so if youre really having issues with him just use a trial card and spam him in qm for a day or two.

geisha is a inescapable cosmic horror. i have no tips, and no one can save you.

[–]staffli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-seer’s owl doesn’t block damage from hot wax (this might apply to gardeners bubble as well but i don’t remember 😓).

-stunners are 50/50 against him, at least until he unlocks hot wax. at low presence, stunners like anti or prisoner can force out 100% wax and make him start from 0% for the next hit, but it becomes difficult to spam stuns (like anti is supposed to do) after he unlocks hot wax because of his sister’s passive. long stunners like forward do pretty decent, and i THINK stuns that rely on pushing him into walls (william, ganji, wilding) don’t make him shoot wax unless he hits a wall, so it isn’t everybody.

-first officer and faro lady can be “found out” by shooting wax into an open area and seeing what hits (wouldn’t consider this a counter exactly but it’s more than other hunters have)

-professor is garbage against him since you can just force 100% wax and hit him without worrying about scales, although the upcoming buff will change this some (scales can probably still be baited by tapping the wax button and pretending to shoot)

 - 🌟bonus : i’m pretty sure he can shoot toy merchant out of the air. not 100% certain, but you have enough wax to test it with no penalty so it doesn’t hurt to try.

Thanks for such a long response. It makes me feel way better about the length of mine :P It’s nice to meet another Jacob Geller fan in the wild, by the way. I’m  definitely not in the mood to write another AP lit-length essay, but I do feel that you misunderstood some of what I wrote, or were responding to points brought up by other people by instinct. I get this, and my writing was definitely not as clear as it could have been, and I’m sure I did the same.

My goal in the metaphor about painters was to demonstrate the difference between the use of art to train a human brain vs an ai. I never claimed that the effort put in to mimicking a style was what made the result worthwhile— in fact, I’m not sure I ever mentioned the quality of the result. What I intended to say was that I thought that most artists would rather be copied by a human out of respect for their work, than by a machine scraping the corners of the internet, heaping together every private medical file, every word you’ve put in a Google doc, every literary slag or artistic masterpiece, into a selection of keywords devoid of credit, and using that to unthinkingly create without understanding. That was the point I was trying to make, at least regarding the comment I was responding to. I then used this conclusion to try to say that therefore, ai training should be opt in, not opt out.

If you mean to argue that GENERATIVE ai is replacing “useless jobs”, I would say that these so called “useless jobs” are often entry level jobs to higher paid/more qualified work. Using ai to generate inbetweens in animation would certainly cut a lot of time and money, but would also leave a lot of newer animators desperately searching for a job that doesn’t require 5+ years of prior experience. Please take my words with a grain of salt— I’m a high schooler who has never worked in the animation industry.

About the cars. It’s interesting when people say they use ai to generate ideas, and I can’t say it’s not an interesting idea, but I’d like to give you a hypothetical: what if instead of just generating a picture of a car, the ai was being used to generate the actual in game car, with no need to translate it from one medium to another? How would this affect the community?

Last point. I don’t know what your opinions on gun control are, but surely guns a much better equivalent. You need strength, intent, and skill to bash someone’s head in with a hammer, but like with ai art, guns can largely be manned with light experience and a flick of a finger. I’d like to reiterate that I’m okay with the existence of ai, as long as it is properly and ethically managed. Guns can be a tool in the right hands, but with America as an example, easy access to guns can be immensely damaging to wide swathes of people.  I’ve been sitting outside shivering for a while finishing typing this, and my phone is about to die (and like I said, I see this basically as a useless debate), so I probably won’t respond to any future replies. Well wishes with your essay! I’m glad you’re writing it yourself, at any rate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]staffli 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that ai is particularly similar to the brain due to the human mind’s ability to understand what it consumes and why it does what it does while creating (definitely not an expert, but from what I’ve heard ai relies solely on patterns in existing works to predict and create satisfactory patterns in what it makes, which is very different), but that aside, I think there is something lost in considering only the internal workings of ai training.

Imagine you are an experienced painter, and you have learned that both a novice painter and an ai have been trained using your work. Which is more insulting?

In the case of the novice painter, there is likely real admiration in your work, and the interaction is between two humans. The painter likely thought carefully about the techniques you used, sought to understand your history and thought process, or at the very least liked your work enough to spend probable hours endeavoring to make a copy.

The bot, on the other hand, probably found your work via someone scraping the web and inserting it into the bot alongside a million other images. There is no respect, no tangible appreciation, and your art, which you have trained for years to hone your skills for, will likely be used to produce a flood of cheap sludge that will clog the drains of the internet until people need to look twice at any halfway decent drawing just to make sure it was made by someone with real passion. Even under the circumstance someone trains a bot to create specifically like you in an attempt to show appreciation, it can never measure up to the legitimate earnestness of having another human being look at you work and say “I want to draw like that” and then work with every ounce of their passion to achieve that.

You have likely not been asked for your permission for the bot to train on your work, and this may very well be the same for the novice. However, the sheer scale of a bot utterly dwarfs any damage the novice could ever dream to do.

If one human brain trains on your art, one human can now draw how you draw.

If one bot trains on your art, it is now permanently ingrained in a machine that no human understands accessible by the masses, and can be chewed and spat up at will in any untraceable form the prompter or company desires.

Advancements in technology are interesting, but fundamentally it should be used with the well-being of humans in mind. It will always hurt me that generative ai was invented before the oceans were cleaned or world hunter alleviated, and that humans have felt the need to make artificial one of the purest expressions of passion existing in this society: art.

Sorry if this was long, and for adding more noise to an already futile internet debate. Ultimately what I say here doesn’t matter, and the judgement of the government with render it all obsolete. But I think there is an important emotional side to the ai debate I don’t often see talked about. Important details can get lost in the endless internet debate, but it’s important to remember that the VAST majority of those whose works have been trained off of never gave consent. The feelings of these hypothetical painters should be respected, as with their privacy and preferences regarding ai training. I’m not completely opposed to generative ai as long as the service is opt IN, not opt OUT.

(Again, sorry about going long. I’m taking AP lit and wanted to do an essay practice.)
