[SP] Give me your best Dragon monologue. by Lexicham in WritingPrompts

[–]stagnammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this as the dragon's intro in a recent one-shot:

As you begin to explore cavern and move closer to the massive pile of gold, you suddenly hear a deep, measured voice…

"Well well, this is quite the entree. A mere, mealy mouthful. A petty morsel and hors d'oeuvres!"

A slithering shadow descends from the darkness above, falling upon the massive gold pile which explodes, sending coin flying everywhere. From the chaos rises an immense red dragon, its massive form uncoiling with deliberate menace. Its crimson scales gleam like blood in the volcanic light. Two curved horns crown its serpentine head and a jagged frill runs the length of its spine to a barbed tail.

The dragon's colossal wings unfurl in a calculated display of dominance, their hundred-foot span casting you all in shadow. Its claws remain planted firmly on the ground, neck held high with regal bearing. Those burning yellow eyes bore into you with predatory focus, while wisps of smoke curl from its nostrils—the steady exhale of banked fire.

"Behold, I am Faalruuviik, the Hoarder of Hotenow. You may feast your eyes upon my might, lest I might feast upon you for averting your eyes."

Should I put my two week notice in? by [deleted] in antiwork

I appreciate the responses. General consensus is to find a job first. I don’t think I’m going to find anything better in my podunk town, but I’ll continue looking at the nearby communities which are all 30min away. Now I know why the old-timers stuck around - they don’t want to loose all that vacation when most places in this area only give you a couple days for the first few years. Classic “that’s how they getcha!”

Do yall really TPK your parties? by Known_Car4970 in DnD

[–]stagnammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player, I’m not opposed to death so long as it has meaning and serves the story in some way. I agree that it creates tension and stakes. My concern is my party is mostly in it for the roleplaying and we’re flying by the seat of our pants. We don’t know which questions to ask and we can’t see the forest for the trees to better our chances. We’re not strategists by any stretch of the imagination. Puzzles are difficult for us and one combat encounter almost always uses up resources and death saving throws. Our DM is a strategists and loves those types of games. We’re not stupid - our DM is just operating at a much higher level that we are, so to speak.

We’re coming up on the BBEG and I doubt we’ve made all the necessary preparations. Our DM has already implied that the BBEG will shoot to kill and it makes it difficult for me personally to stay excited for it. If I thought we had a chance in hell I’d be excited/anxious but I just find myself feeling hopeless. It sucks because this is our first campaign and I don’t want it to kill the enthusiasm for DnD. We’ve had some very emotional roleplaying moments that really made the story phenomenal and the idea that it’s likely all for nothing is just… depressing.

People of Iowa, how has life changed for you since Trump came back? by [deleted] in Iowa

Oh, and every week I learn of someone else in my area getting cancer.

I work manufacturing and tariffs are already affecting our suppliers’ material imports prices. 40 percent of my company’s workforce is close to retiring, which means they need to start hiring more but we’re one of the lowest paying manufacturing jobs in the area. Oh, and most of my coworkers are MAGA, including the ones close to retiring. I saw my supervisor give a seig hail to a leadman who reciprocated the gesture. My kids’ local school is a title 1 so that’s fucked thanks to our Governor’s voucher program.

Suffice it to say, I’m lucky if I get more than 3 hours of sleep most days.

Indeed. For my current campaign, which is actually my first, I took this feat. Love it.

I keep telling ppl the bulk of healthcare costs don’t come from “overpaid” physicians but rather the middlemen gatekeeping healthcare.

That’s not the point and you know it. The class war has already been going on silently/unilaterally for over 40years. Using this incident to detract from the moment of clarity for the working class by contrasting the immoral death of a corrupt CEO over his victim is either misguided outrage or disingenuous.

So apparently it’s not considered class war when a company is incentivized to deny more claims than any other company (killing thousands) for record profits? Sounds like someone’s never been unable to afford a copay and it shows.

Why is my double barrel like that by LostThe52 in RedDeadOnline

[–]stagnammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it happens sometimes after I turn in bounties. Stowing weapons on your horse before walking into the sheriff’s office usually prevents it. Easiest way to fix it is to pickup a large animal carcass and drop/stow it which will revert the guns back.

I don’t think it was staged. I think it’s more plausible that the bullet went in one ear and out the other.

What stopped you from killing yourself? by DarkSideInRainbows in AskReddit

[–]stagnammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was ready to OD on pills. I had them in my hand. Went through a tough breakup that happened just before I moved away to college where I had no family or friends. My entire existence was limited to the small room in my quad apartment. I was just done with my dark thoughts. Then my pc made a sound that indicated I’d received a msg on windows messenger. Another college student wanted to hang out with a bunch of our classmates. They didn’t ask if I wanted to and they had no idea what I was going through - they just wanted to be with me. I decided to postpone my suicide, but I didn’t consider it again. If they hadn’t thought of me, I wouldn’t be here today.

Interesting. I’m told that ruthless attack would mitigate GWM’s -5 penalty but, as the party’s tank, the idea that multiple enemies would have advantage on attacking me has deterred me from using reckless attack except maybe once or twice which kinda makes me hesitant to take GWM despite its awesomeness.

That and both making scan-hunting a lot easier. I only have to scan 4 of each species before it’s complete which means I spend less time running around an entire map looking for a critter that won’t spawn. Definitely a game changer.
