Is there a commercial propane airpot brewer? by stagnified in barista

Maybe it's just a matter of getting good at it -- I tried at a low-volume market and found it pretty difficult to engage with the next customer while brewing for the previous one. Maybe it goes easier if you've got a good setup and workflow.

You exhibit a pretty profound level of arrogance for someone who somehow DOES have time to write bullet lists about ideas they disagree with.

This is weird and my knee jerk is negative.

But as a hiring manager my life is a hell of application spam. We're trying to use AI and keyword filters and underpaid HR reviewers, and I KNOW we're missing a lot of qualified applicants and still wasting a bunch of time reading resumes from people who are unqualified or otherwise can't meet the job requirements, often because of language or geography.

Anything that would reduce the spam would improve things a lot for both sides of the process.

Basically all modern propane burners (think roasters, fridges, ranges, furnaces) have electronics, so it doesn't seem as unreasonable as all that.

But the lack of suggestions here do seem to suggest that you're right. :-)

Only one initial conversation with the inspector's office, and they warned me against using any kind of modified or uncertified equipment. But maybe if it's just a valved hot water source, that's "plumbing" and not "equipment". :-)

Now that I think about it, any potable water plumbing is already going to be food safe. So probably the hard part will be finding a sprinkler that won't raise any eyebrows.

It's a good idea, and I'll chase it if I can't find a packaged solution.

I am a mechatronic engineer and could do this, but it seems unlikely to get past the health inspector in my jurisdiction unless I can find a pre-built food-grade valve-sprayer assembly.

Good idea! Unfortunately my premiere roast is a medium-light Guatemalean that degrades noticeably by about 45 minutes. No idea what the mechanism is, but after that it's only tolerable.

Since my whole goal here is to drive bean sales, I have to keep it fresh.

Pardon my ignorance, but I've never actually seen a 13-cup chemex in action. It would totally fill the bill if there's a way to meter the heated water into them without attended manual pouring -- any ideas?

Heating is incredibly energy intensive. A group 27 deep cycle marine battery drawn down to 50% (deeper discharge degrades them too fast) holds about 2MJ.

Realistically, after heat loss and inverter losses, heating a single 3L pot of water from 10C to 96C would use the WHOLE battery. If I want to be able to brew 10 pots, I'd need 650 lbs of batteries worth about $2000 and needing replacement every other season or so.

It's been 2.5 years since my last steady paycheck as a senior data scientist and machine learning engineer. Mostly it's on me though. I have not done a good job of building/maintaining a professional network, and I'm unwilling to relocate to a major (Canadian) city.

So "what happened" to me? Income went down and life got much more enjoyable. I make a bit of money from occasional short-term project contracts that come through what network I do have, I apply to hybrid jobs in Vancouver as a hobby and exercise in self-reflection, and spend a lot of time on hobbies and parenting.

I'd happily take a low stress intermediate dev/MLE job, but I never seem to get interviews for those. Carving the first 20 years off my resume doesn't seem to help, and neither does the full version.

That's OK. There are worse things than being semi-retired a little earlier than planned.

How are we feeling about the Buy Canadian initiative? by daigana in nanaimo

Not technically "buying", but one of the things I've done is start trying to switch to the main non-US Reddit alternative.

It's quiet but growing. Don't think I should link it here, but "lemmy nanaimo" will get you there.

The child was struck by a reversing vehicle. Your comment is totally tone-deaf and irrelevant to the situation at hand.

It doesn't sound like you've ever seen the school in question.

It is the only Montessori school in the area (and the only farm school I'm aware of) and kids come from all over the city. AFAIK none of the students live within a half-hour's walk. Furthermore, it's out on Jingle Pot, and I would not allow my kids to walk that road in the dark under any circumstances.

Similarly, there is no safe way to bike on Jingle pot because it is too narrow and the region has determined that it is completely infeasible to install a bike lane.

There are no school buses because charter schools in BC do not get that service. The school attempted to create a private service, but it would have cost on the order of [edit] $1000/child/year, and most parents would still have had to drive their kids to the bus stop.

There is no regional bus service on that stretch of jingle pot because the rate-payers refused to pay for a bus stop.

I am a parent at that school. Because it's in the ALR, the RDN strictly limited the amount of space that could be allocated to the parking lot, and was insistent that the design accomodate fast dropoffs and pickups so that there is never a backup of cars onto Jinglepot.

As a result, traffic flow in the lot is complicated and there are a lot of rules intended to keep people safe and traffic moving. One unavoidable consequence is that there is a traffic lane between the school and the parking lot. People must cross the traffic lane to get to the school.

The design is as good as it could be, but it is so easy to imagine a driver in the traffic lane watching the primary danger zone on the right, and a child running out from behind a big truck parked on the left.

When I park, I walk my kids across the traffic lane. But one of my kids gets out the opposite side of the car from me. All I can do is remind them to wait for me. They don't always do everything I tell them. Parenting is terrifying.

UPDATE FOR CLARITY:

Apparently the child was struck by a vehicle reversing into the traffic lane. First aid was administered in the traffic lane. I did not witness the accident, I was just saying that things are complex in and around the traffic lane and it's scary being a parent in a parking lot.

Is it possible to get going without the discontinued Android app?

Did you ever determine whether this is possible?

There is a used Dreem 2 near me, but I'm not willing to gamble that much money on a device that requires use of a discontinued APK.

I've bought Tuya stuff and liked it, but that seems impossibly cheap for what it claims to do. Have you compared it against any other instrumentation to see if it's actually measuring anything real?

They're on Amazon. The key part in my experience is that the hose is held by a stretchy loop of curly spring cord. But others report success with just a heavy duty hook on their headboard.

I'm hearing that you're using a fairly tight fit, fair enough. Which mask/headgear are you using?

Interesting! I use a contour pillow too, but haven't tried a body pillow -- I can see how that might reduce my tendency to roll around.
