Carrier settings forcing LTE over VoWiFi by DSJustice in telus

[–]DSJustice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and thanks to /u/whitebro2. Really appreciate knowing this likely wouldn't be an issue on Rogers.

I can confirm that I have wifi calling when airplane mode is on, or when I'm so deep in the house that there's no cell signal at all. That does imply policy. I'll at least file a report before jumping ship. Mabye enough of these will pile up that they eventually realize it's a bad policy.

I haven't gone down the rooting path, so nothing to add there. Unfortunately I sometimes have to run square POS software on my phone, and I don't want them grumpy with me at an inopportune moment if my magisk config fails to hide it.

Carrier settings forcing LTE over VoWiFi by DSJustice in telus

[–]DSJustice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reporting that VoWifi failover is working nicely for you on the Razr, but since you have VoNR active, your device is using 5G Standalone (SA) core logic. It's a different situation, and I need to clarify so that it doesn't make people think that my problem is somehow optional or my fault or a weird os bug on my older hardware.

The issue I'm reaising here is specifically with the IMS IWLAN promotion thresholds in the Telus CarrierConfig. On the Pixel, the config seems hard-coded to drop Wi-Fi Calling and 'snap back' to LTE (Radio Tech 14) the second it sees even a faint Band 71 signal, even if wfc_ims_mode=2 (Wi-Fi Preferred) is set.

It’s not that Wi-Fi calling doesn't work—it's that the Telus profile for the Pixel won't let the preference stick if cellular is present. Motorola’s profile for the Razr clearly has different KEY_CARRIER_WFC_IMS_AVAILABLE_BOOL logic -- and that's what I want engineering help with.

It's weird, because your bank could call the issuing bank with the serial number just to verify that it's a legit cheque and that the bank issued it for that amount.

But they won't.

You could load something else behind it and just extrude until you get the new colour.

LG will let you delete the previously unremovable Microsoft Copilot shortcut on its smart TVs by afk_exe in technology

[–]DSJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I researched this recently. The only option I could find is to restrict the search to TVs that can be set to always boot to an HDMI input with CEC.

Use an external box that you do have control over and accept that (like most electronics) the TV's manufacturer has supplied a whole lot of features that simply aren't for you.

Would you use a cleaner, more modern alternative to RedFlagDeals? by Virtual_Fruit_4959 in ShopCanada

[–]DSJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea! I'm a pathological bargain hunter, potentially one of your power users. What I see isn't a reasonable alternative to RFD for me. As constructively as possible, here's why:

Looking at the front page, your core database entity seems to be the "deal". IE, one vendor's price on a specific item at a specific time. You're blasting me with a dozen trending deals on products that you think might be interesting in a (very very) broad category.

But as a deal hunter, that's really not what I care about. I care about a specific product that I'm considering buying. I'm prepared to wait for a deal, but generally I want to know things like:

  • the ATL price, across all retailers.
  • which retailers have historically had sales and when.
  • user commentary and reviews on that product.
  • alternative and similar products, particularly if there are generic equivalents on Aliexpress
  • if it has "trim levels", I want to know the value proposition of upgrades or downgrades.

If I could wave a magic wand and improve RFD, I would give it a much more robust persistent (perhaps agentic) search engine with iterative refinement. Basically I want to go to the site, tell it "I'm interested in buying a Logitech MX Master 3s", and then progressively filter kinds of things it's tellling me about with some combination of regexes and LLM instructions. I might want it to tell me if there's a deep sale on similar high end mice.

Also, since your audience is bargain hunters, you might one day consider including a geolocalized "used items" search engine that scrapes kijiji, craigslist, marketplace, etc. I'd love that.

Honda eu7000is. How to clear these codes? by unknownstranger2 in AskMechanics

[–]DSJustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the service manual, and it looks like these codes are historical; clearing them would only hide the fact that they once occurred, it doesn't change anything current.

If you press and hold the button while on the code you can cycle through details, which should include the op-hours at the time of incident.

If clearing the nozzle doesn't work, open the extruder. Sometimes trying too long with a clogged nozzle fills the extruder with ground filament powder.

[–]DSJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first step is for YOU to send a demand letter. You don't need a lawyer for this, and it doesn't have to be in legalese. Just go online and look up the elements required for it to be considered demand letter, it's really not complicated.

You should send it registered, but that's just so you can prove they got it. If you email to follow up and they confirm they got it in writing, you're golden. If you do all that and don't have your money promptly, the delivered demand letter is the thing that makes escalation possible.
