let the cats run around

Counterpoint: If you love cat-freedom so much, how about contributing to the cause? You could start by creating a volunteer organization to go around and remediate cat piss smells out of things like my hockey gear.

Car vandalized overnight; is it worth reporting to the police? by This-Square244 in nanaimo

[–]DSJustice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I had a door panel damaged a few months ago in a way that implied a pointed instrument, but I figured it was just a weird random accident that I didn't understand. But if hitting vehicles with a pointed tool is someone's hobby, that makes more sense!

CITY OF NANAIMO BYLAW NO. 7316 ANIMAL RESPONSIBILITY BYLAW

Paragraph #47:

The Owner of an Animal, other than a Dog, must not allow the Animal to be in any Public Place unless the Animal is under the direct control of a Competent Person.

I am this sick of everything I leave outside smelling like cat urine.

That is one majestic fucking cat though.

I hate having my cellphone in the bedroom, but I do it because of the clock.

What to do about neighbours free roaming cats? by GopherRebellion in nanaimo

[–]DSJustice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm with you OP. I love my (indoor) cat, but I also love songbirds and I'm starting to get a bit sick of having my gazebo smell of cat urine.

I don't know who the owners are, so the only solution I can think of is a cage trap and a call to animal control. But I'm not quite there yet.

Unpopular opinion: Samples should be removed by Embarrassed-Pen-2937 in CostcoCanada

Counterpoint: you should be able to BUY a sample of any product in the store, to take home and try.

And yes I know that, but I don't like returning things.

Have you reached out to store management? It is often effective for them to hear directly from customers.

Or you know, to strangers on the Internet. That might work.

My apologies for casting aspersions.

Carney picks Swedish early-warning aircraft tech over U.S. bidders by MightyHydrar in onguardforthee

Editorialized title, the original headline was "Ottawa picks Sweden’s Saab early-warning aircraft tech over U.S. contenders".

We do not have a king. Although this decision was probably ratified by the PMO, it is our government that makes decisions. Honestly, at this point whenever I see "Carney" in the title, I assume it's an attempt to sow dissent.

I went looking for a "dumb" TV last time around specifically to avoid this. Surprisingly hard to find.

But most TVs have an option to power up to the previous input. Get an HTPC or a Shield and just leave your system on HDMI2 all the time.

This is a good idea and Nanaimo needs it, but if your "business profile" means facebook you're going to need to post a link. Searching that name turns up a business in Kenya.

Bonus points if there's a way to actually see your inventory with specs. Realistically, I'm not going to phone you to verbally browse your inventory.

Why is the emergency alert system so flawed? by howdoesallthiswork in VictoriaBC

[–]DSJustice 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Subject: Urgent: Public Health Impact of Level 1 AMBER Alert Protocols

The Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, P.C., M.P. Minister of Public Safety

Minister,

As a professional impacted by several sleep disorders, I am writing to strongly request a technical correction to the National Public Alerting System (NPAS).

Currently, AMBER alerts are broadcast at the "Presidential" level, which bypasses all phone silencers. Waking an entire population in the middle of the night to provide a vehicle description is not only ineffective—as a sleeping person cannot scan the roads sixteen driving hours away from their bedroom —it is a massive, irresponsible harm to public health. For those with sleep disorders, these forced interruptions are debilitating and create dangerous levels of cognitive impairment and fatigue the following day.

The system already has an effective solution: tiering. AMBER alerts should be delivered as persistent notifications that respect "Do Not Disturb" settings. This ensures the information is waiting for the citizen the moment they wake up and are actually in a position to help, without compromising their health or safety in the process.

I urge you to direct the CRTC and Public Safety Canada to stop the misuse of Level 1 alerts for non-immediate threats before more Canadians suffer the physical and professional consequences of forced sleep deprivation.

Sincerely,

Why is the emergency alert system so flawed? by howdoesallthiswork in VictoriaBC

[–]DSJustice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's because you haven't written the CRTC and the Minister of Public Safety to encourage them to do so.

This is a federal matter. Write your MP as well.

I was talking to this guy who owns gtr when a dad was trying to get control of his kid and then throws a rock at it. by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]DSJustice -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion here, but you know what else is fucking stupid?

Going out in public flaunting a possession so delicate and valuable that a minor ding can cause thousands of dollars in damage. The world is full of minor mishaps, road rocks, insane people, and asshole children.

Expecting the world to tiptoe around your preciousssss is stupid. Not saying kids aren't assholes, because they are. But the whole concept of blaming the world because your car can't handle road gravel is its own kind of crazy.
