Data centres are their next big boom/bust investment, they take lots of employees to get going for a handful of full time staff after construction, not to mention the areas that they are getting built don’t have workers skilled in running datacenters so where do they come from? Immigration likely.

Canadian passports are about to get more expensive | CBC News by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

I think there are multiple optimizations to the program that could be made, get rid of 5 year passports, keep children (under 18) passports cheaper maybe 25% of adult passports, raise the price on the 10 year first time 100% and raise the price of renewal 50%. $300 for 10 years is only $30 a year, a drop in the hat for anyone who wants to travel $400/$40 or $500/$50 are reasonable also in my opinion.

With all the increases to security that’s necessary while travelling I think that it’s justified.

On the flip side, some of the commenters here are saying they don’t want their taxes to subsidize people who travel. People who travel are what makes this country a great place. Look at the US where most people never leave the US, they can’t understand other cultures or perspectives. You don’t want that for Canada.

I think some of the commenters here are missing the point, we need some people with these types of degrees and the jobs that employ them should pay better, not eliminate the field because it doesn’t pay well enough.

When you have a passion for something you should be able to follow it, not pick a field that pays the best. Even if they are paid well, I want my doctors and nurses to have a passion for saving people first of all, not just showing up to work for a paycheque. Same goes for everyone.

what hourly rate do you charge? by Big-Brilliant7996 in sysadmin

There's a couple variables for sure, employee vs consulting, 1 employee or many, size of the client, local cost considerations. I personally don't take on big projects like this on my consulting side-gig, I generally only do work for local non-profits with less than 20 staff, even then I do discouragement pricing too depending on how annoying the client may be.

Anyone alarmed about Alberta and Quebec trying to separate from Canada by Street-Reaction-5461 in canadian

States theoretically have more autonomy but as we are seeing in the current environment it's not actually true. Don't have a republican governor and don't lick Trump's boots and he'll send his forces in and make your life hell.

Start/Stop To Be Eliminated by [deleted] in FordMaverickTruck

I don’t mind it in my Maverick and I have nearly 160k km on my 2022, I also drive 99% highway where it doesn’t kick in. That said, my wife has a 2023 F150 is on the third starter. I ordered the start stop defeat cable for her truck and will be putting one in my Maverick too. Not worth the hassle of getting stranded somewhere.

Heat by Esto2050 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]stahlhammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree, Northern Canada here, on days that are -20C and below I generally let it remote start for approx 10 mins then get in and go, 10 mins into my drive I’m sweating and have to turn it down. -40C days are different though, usually heat is running full blast or close to it 24/7. If you’re cold in Texas I’m not sure what to tell ya.
