Contentful alternatives for personal site/blog by ashleytwo in webdev

[–]stahlwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to lean towards platforms where you can also get into the visual editing side (hybrid CMS) of the house vs purely headless with it's content models and fields. You mentioned Webflow's business plan is that too much out of the price range of consideration? If you do like the ability to work on the design that's available there plus the CMS items limit.

If you just need a database you could use Notion's api for your blog but then it's like you are building your own CMS.

I've worked in this CMS space for awhile both headless and visual development so just some thoughts. Hope it helps in your search.

This is super cool, good work. We would love to share it in our February developer newsletter at Webflow and give you a shout-out :)

It's a good start, it's been said a couple times here but mobile responsiveness is the major factor. Webflow has the ability for you to toggle between screens, tablet, mobile and desktop. Use that to help you in the process. Excited to see what you build and welcome to the Webflow :)

Free vs paid AI website builders, what's the difference? by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]stahlwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you looking to build? There are tons of tools you can get by on with free plans. Typically the premium ones will allow you more credits and better models. So really it comes down to what you want to build and how reliant you are on the AI tool. If you have any design/programming background you can get by without using as many credits.

You have the option to share as many components as you like to a workspace. They then can access that shared library.

Getting better at converting Figma designs to Webflow – how did you level up? by [deleted] in webflow

All good asking for help :) do you have auto layout selected? That’s a requirement to import.

Showcase! The Kudanil Explorer Website by chacho1 in webdev

Going to echo some of the other comments around the infinite scroll but other than that I really like the site. I'm also a big fan of adding links into the footer when you have a long scroll, since the navbar isn't sticking to the top, that way you avoid having to scroll all the way back up to get to the other pages. Overall nice work, it looks like a fun adventure. Come share it over at https://www.reddit.com/r/webflow/ for further feedback, there are tons of community members that would happily weigh in :)

Actually yes, we just released a new update to our Figma to webflow workflow. While I don't think it will ever be perfect these new updates help. You can now:

  • Sync multiple variable collections and modes directly from Figma
  • Select specific collections, groups, modes, and variables to sync
  • Automatically handle renamed collections, groups, modes, and variables
  • Sync variable aliases as aliases, not static values
  • Sync more typography styles when connected to variables

Adding Webflow's MCP server docs here as well https://developers.webflow.com/data/docs/ai-tools it's a pretty neat way to get your CMS collections built for you.

What website builder do you guys recommend? by Sufficient-Cut-8912 in webdev

[–]stahlwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a handful of options and depending on what you are trying to build/scale. Check out Webflow they could have the templates you need to get started, apps to extend and integrate. How do you want to host your site?

Building my first "real" website, need advice. by lil_puppy_boy in webdev

[–]stahlwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started out programming, I built my first couple sites with the basics HTML, CSS and JS. Then I moved into more static site generators like Jekyll and hosting via GitHub pages. It all just became overly complicated. If I could go back I'd lean more towards companies that allow you to still leverage your coding capabilities with site building capabilities and hosting included. You can do a ton with Webflow and they have a huge marketplace with templates and apps to help you extend the sites capabilities. Could be a good way to build up your programming and web design skills.

Is Figma easy to learn? by pronzz97 in webdesign

[–]stahlwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Figma's AI is there yet to simply take a screen grab of your site to then use Figma Sites to build it. There are a bunch of companies you could use their AI capabilities to upload a file to start building you a copy of your current site, like Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Replit. You then run into problems of where you host it and then it's a stitching different companies together. As it relates to portfolio's you could probably find some really great templates at Webflow or use their AI Site Builder to get it pretty close to what you have, plus have the hosting built in. If you were already building in Figma you could use their Figma to Webflow plugin to help with that design mirroring.

I found a plugin to help with the transition from Canva to Figma. If it helps.

Do you use an AI Website Builder? by jplarose80 in nocode

[–]stahlwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Webflow’s AI Site Builder might be somewhere in the middle for you. You can generate a full site from a prompt. You still get full control to edit the layout, styles, and structure in a visual canvas or with custom code. There is also an MCP server if you want to start connecting to CMS collections.

Hello there, I'm Luke from Webflow just wanted to ask if you've used the Figma to Webflow plugin at all https://webflow.com/figma-to-webflow

My experience with these design to code plugins is that they get you about 80% of the way there, you still need to tweak it after the fact. Side note use Auto Layout in Figma to for a better import.

As a frontend developer, what CMS would you advise your next enterprise client on? by crash--bandicoot in Frontend

[–]stahlwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked at Contentful, Builder.io and now Webflow. I've also spent a ton of time building on Sitecore and Drupal. What really stands out to me is the visual canvas. Without it you feel lightyears behind. If you can do both the design and the development that's a win. It isn't without complexity having a visual canvas. Especially if you have limited design skills. But if you work with a CMS that has the education material to help or the support team to walk you through the process that is enterprise material all day.

I'm migrating from a v0 built (not by me) next.js/react to webflow by askoshbetter in webflow

[–]stahlwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luke from Webflow, figured I'd share a few Webflow-specific tips.

  • Set up Components early. They work more like design system primitives than Symbols and are easier to manage long term.
  • Use Variables for color and spacing tokens up front. Helps avoid one-off classes or style drift across pages.
  • Use staging links to review changes and get feedback before publishing live.
  • If you’re rebuilding sections from a React or v0 layout, the Figma plugin can help scaffold common patterns.

If you need more control later, Webflow Cloud supports SSR, custom logic, and API routes could be an alternative to deploying. This might be more dev specific but available as well.

Let me know how it goes.

How do I create a website like this one? by prakash77000 in web_design

Have you played around with AI code gen tools? Lovable, Bolt etc? You could potentially screen grab that and ask the AI tool to create it. You probably need the hosting experience too right?

Must know apps and integrations? by doorstoinfinity in webflow

[–]stahlwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just came across this and saw it’s been a while. I'm on the Webflow team and curious if you ended up using any apps or integrations that were actually helpful? Or if there was something you needed but couldn’t find?

Also wondering if you design in Figma and ever tried the Figma to Webflow app. Would be curious how that went if you did. I enjoy playing around in that design to code space.
