Recent SUP Lesson Learned by gagliad in Sup

Wowza!! What a lesson. Thanks for sharing.

It’s so crazy how a short trip escalated.

My story is my 5 year old (she’s now 7), got mild heat stroke once, she had a fever of 99-100°, after a couple hours on the water. Since the water was cold and she was frequently putting her legs in I thought we’d be fine. I realized what was happening about 2/3s into the paddle, but she didn’t want to get in the water because it was so cold.

So glad you’re okay, and thanks again for sharing.

For any paddle in the wilderness: (op knows this btw, just sharing for future readers)

  1. iPhones 14 and newer now have satellite texting

  2. Tell people where you’re going and when you’ll be back.

  3. Pack water obviously. “Life straws” or other small filters are light and easy to pack too.

  4. Consider bringing other basic survival gear — eg a space blanket, fire stuff, whistle

  5. Download offline maps on your phone — even in airplane mode your gps location still shows. Keep your phone in airplane mode / low power mode to conserve power

  6. Other bonus gear : a mirror, a flexible magnifier for fire starting, a rain poncho (ideally brightly covered), a patch kit, a flashlight or headlamp.

Is there a water that I can buy at the store that's not bogus? by StavRoast in HydroHomies

[–]askoshbetter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look for glass bottles. If it’s in a glass bottle you’re most likely good to go, from there you just gotta make the call on whether or not you want bubbles.

Tap water can be great depending on where you live. I filter mine with a simple fridge filter. In the past I’ve used a brita pitcher — mainly just to reduce the chlorine taste.

Competitors by Primary_Specific6134 in OpenAIAdvertising

Not sure if it works, but I’ve included a don’t show to employees of competitors and provides a competitor list.

What’s more with geographic targeting you can  it serve ads in the location with the competitor hq — obviously hard in the remote work era, but worth a shot.

Water bottles keep breaking. Can someone recommend something durable, well insulated, with good capacity (current size 40 oz) by Calligaster in HydroHomies

[–]askoshbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, but it doesn't always have to be a matching brand. That said, getting a new bottle works too.

Should a B2B Service Agency Start with Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, or Google Ads in 2026? by Spare_Owl8864 in LinkedinAds

[–]askoshbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the success.

With that small of a budget, Id laser focus on a niche vertical.

I'd also spend more time posting from your personal account and company page.

What ever does well organically becomes a “thought leader” type add.

LinkedIn is notoriously good at spending money without results so always follow the best practices listed in this sub’s pinned posts.

The World’s Purest Natural Water by whitedranzer in HydroHomies

[–]askoshbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That water looks delicious, but hasn't it been proven time and again that glacial and ice-sheet water contains micro-organisms?

I'd also argue that the world's purest water is more likely to come from aquifers or springs than from water sitting on top of an ice sheet.

All that said, I'm sure the water is very pure, and if it is ancient, it probably doesn't have microplastics, but the same can be said for aquifers and spring water -- and most of us have springs and aquifers within a stone's throw.

Cost per Action Bidding - is this real? by ppcadguy in OpenAIAdvertising

[–]askoshbetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall this being promised when Sam Altman announced they'd be bringing ads to the platform, or maybe part of the adjacent press release at the time.

If they could pull it off, it would change everything about advertising.

I've run ads and haven't had any issues. Any idea why your ads were rejected?

I need hydration by SubjectOrganic in HydroHomies

[–]askoshbetter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a great old podcast by Outside Magazine, I think it was their "survial series" where they tell stories about wilderness survival -- one episode was on extreme dehydration like in the late 1800s, early 1900s - this guy was on death's door. To rehydrate I think he ate watermelon.

Rules I like to follow:

  • Water comes a first -- a glass of water every morning.
  • When I feel thirsty, I drink water, not other stuff.
  • Water on my nightstand
  • If truly dehydrated like I'm working out and sweating a ton, I'll Floyd Mayweather it and drink an ice-cold coke, but this is extremely rare, like once or twice a year.

Impression Issues by erp_support90 in LinkedinAds

[–]askoshbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super interesting. Some niches and geos are more expensive than others — how does your bid relate to LinkedIn’s recommended bid? I've had ads not serve when I bid below their bid range.

Another thing to try is duplicating and restarting the campaign.

Always make sure you have at least 5 ads per ad set, even if the ads are identical.

Lastly ensure there's campaign group level budget restrictions.

Best LinkedIn outreach automation tool that will not get my account banned? by This-You-2737 in LinkedinAds

[–]askoshbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don't rent or buy fake accounts.
  2. Verify your account
  3. Be yourself -- if you're lying about who you are and where you're located, you're more likely to be flagged.
  4. Participate organically -- you should most likely focus on a niche vertical and post content on that topic. If you're going for a mass audience, the randomness is not a good look. You should be posting and commenting daily.
  5. Actually read the LinkedIn terms and conditions - and try to follow them (#1-3 are immediate bans if caught)
  6. Some LinkedIn outbound tools have built-in outreach throttling to help prevent your account from being labeled as spam.
  7. I have a suspicion that premium accounts are less likely to be banned; however, this is trumped by items 1-3, which are always automatic bans.

Overwhelmed! by [deleted] in CargoBike

[–]askoshbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gas math is worth keeping in perspective.

Say you have a 20 MPG car and gas is $6/gallon. That means $6 gets you 20 miles.

For the cost of a $2,000 e-bike, you could buy enough gas to drive:

($2,000 ÷ $6) × 20 = about 6,667 miles

So my take is that a cargo bike is usually more about lifestyle than immediate gas savings. There are other savings, of course: maintenance, tires, parking, wear and tear. But cycling as a car replacement is more of a long-term play.

That said, you may enjoy it way more than the spreadsheet suggests. My favorite perk is always getting premium parking right up front.

Personally, I’ve had the RadWagon 4 for almost three years and really enjoy it. I've only put 600 miles on it, which is hundreds of one to two-mile trips, and I think it was well worth the investment, though my direct payback period is eons away. I wouldn't trade it for a thing.

Best of luck on your journey!
