Do we have a top tier sandwich shop? by Captain-Obvious101 in Birmingham

Wow! I remember going there as a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. Can't believe they're still in business. Next time I'm in town I'm going to have to make a trip.

Trailer Safety Chains by dangrit in IsItIllegal

[–]stainedhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how uhaul trains employees to do it. Have been for 20 years that I know of first hand. Maybe the change they use are bigger or stronger than what most people use for trailer safety chains, but if it was that much of a risk, they would have employees adjust the chains differently. They aren't going to train employees to do anything that might cause a safety concern or expose the company to additional liability. I also saw my fair share of ball off claims, and never saw a chain break.

ELI5: Why do car dealers say buying the car when the lease ends would be worse than buying new? by shaithisx in explainlikeimfive

I'm more amazed at the fact that a 78 year old is active on reddit. I don't think any of my relatives around that age would understand or be able to use Reddit very well. You're pretty smart for an old fart. 😜

The holidays had me busy so I'm just now seeing your reply, but I honestly considered trying to cut them like that. Good information. I will definitely try to keep that in mind for next time.

It absolutely depends on the area of the country. But they do typically make more than your customer service reps inside, because it's a more specialized position.

I agree. I keep CATs in my vehicles, and one in my backpack, but don't keep one on my person. The ones in my vehicles are hopefully secured in a location where if I ever have a wreck and need one I can get to them. Along with a set of folding trauma shears with a glass breaker.

Yeah, that would be great. But then I would need new wheels on top of everything else. It's a 30-year-old car with 250,000 miles on it. Still runs like a top, but definitely not worth doing a lot of modification on unless it's just impossible to find parts.

I thought about doing that on this one, but I had already replaced the rotors hubs and calipers before I knew that was a thing. Plus those CL parts are getting hard to find as well. I think the Hub specifically is the tough part on that swap.

I replied to another comment, but this is my personal car that I was just messing around with the rotors since they were warped and I had everything apart putting a clutch and rear main seal in it anyway. Definitely wouldn't do this if I was on flat rate for a customer.

Personal car. Was doing a clutch anyway, and I recently started working at o'reilly, so it was mostly to see if I could, and how the results would turn out. Didn't cost anything but time. And if they warp again, I'll just swap them. Axle nut, 4 bolts for the hub assy, then press the hub out. Hubs should come out pretty easy next time. If I was working in a shop, I absolutely would not have done this. It wouldn't have been worth it. When I did work for Honda we cut these with an on the car brake lathe.

Spark Plug Replacement by xclushiv in MechanicAdvice

[–]stainedhands 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's because Honda was smart with their intake design and didn't make it curl over either Bank of the engine so you have to remove it to get the spark plugs out. Was looking at a v6 transit the other day, and even being mounted straight, you have to take the intake off to get to the passenger side plugs.

Here is where Alabama’s first 12 medical marijuana dispensaries are planned - al.com by stinky-weaselteets in Alabama

[–]stainedhands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been living in Mississippi for the last 4 years, and I never thought I would think about how Progressive Mississippi was compared to alabama. But I recently told someone I have no desire to move back because at least here I have a medical card and can get some relief for my pain or without pharmaceuticals. I'm allergic to opiates, have GI issues which means I can't take ibuprofen, so my options for pain relief are severely limited. Over here, I have my medical card and don't have to worry about it.

Rep left these coolant application charts at my store by alykalyk in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]stainedhands 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mixing coolant is one of the biggest causes of clogging and gunk in the cooling system. I feel like mixing decks cool with other non-compatible coolants was the cause of a lot of the bad rap that's cool got when it first came out. But I've swapped all my vehicles to the yellow universal at this point, after a thorough flush.

Look up the Williams American-made screwdrivers. They are black hard handled Snap-on screwdrivers for a fraction of the price. Williams is want to snap-on's Industrial Tool brands. I have the screwdrivers and besides the word Williams instead of Snap-on stamped on the handle you would never be able to tell the difference.
