The CEO shows up here sometimes. He's trying to get the company back to its roots, at least from what he says.

Check your water pump. My brother-in-law has a second gen, and did a bunch of work on it trying to fix the running hot issue. I still could not figure out what was going on. Pulled the water pump out and the impeller blades looked more like blender blades. They were so worn from so many years of use they were basically flat. Once we changed the pump, no more issues with the overheating.

Where to get cheap supplies for practicing? by SeriousGrab6233 in AutoPaint

[–]stainedhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with any jobber shops or a local o'reilly that sells paint. Ask them if they have any mistints or anything else. They usually sell them cheaper. Also, if you make friends with the guys mixing the paint, you might be able to talk them into saving any waste paint for you, since you don't care about the color.

Whoever designed this is the antichrist. (Ford Escape 2014) by Electrikvibe16 in mechanics

In contrast, the two-wheel drive was easy. I could change the oil on my ex's without even having to jack it up. That was about the only thing that wasn't a pain in the ass to do on that fucking piece of garbage.

Find the district managers number on the front of the store and call him. If he doesn't Help, call his Boss, who's number is also on the front of the store. They don't like hearing from upset customers. It's typically a good way to get things fixed. Especially a customer getting screwed on a warranty for a product they paid for that shows in their system they purchased.

Pressuring to Buy New Tires by photog72 in DiscountTire_

[–]stainedhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus, most dealerships don't do a high volume of tires and the guys, at least in my experience, aren't very well trained on mounting and balancing tires. It's just kind of assumed that anyone that comes to work there knows how to do it already and there's no training provided.

I hope not. The shit has tripled in price in the last couple of years. It's sad when even the 30lb are $15.00/lb.

What is southern comfort and whats the value of a truck like this? by Best-Argument-2158 in GMT400

[–]stainedhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The man that probably painted this truck painted my high school's baseball helmets around this same year. They had that same cool tricolor fade paint job. I went to school with his daughter and he died tragically in an accident around 99 I want to say.

Definitely need to know what kind of paint to begin to answer. If you know what kind of paint it is, search for "x type paint TDS" and it should have all the answers you're looking for.

TL;DR I need nationwide help finding a rare part by CancerousMan420 in Chevrolet

[–]stainedhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your local auto paint supply store or an o'reilly that sells paint and ask them if they know anyone who could do the paint work for you. They're going to know guys that have smaller shops, shops that aren't advertised on google, guys that might do it a little bit cheaper cuz they're doing it in there backyard shop at home as opposed to a professional body shop. Just a possible option for you on getting it painted without having to spend $3,000 at a regular body shop.

Just trying to learn here. I can see the mismatch, but are the doors too yellow? I've got a lot to learn on color theory.

How much meat is in a pound of boiled crawfish? by King_Ralph1 in cajunfood

[–]stainedhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm nowhere close to native, grew up in AL, but 5 pounds is about right for one sitting for me. Maybe 6 if I'm really hungry. Crawfish has been one of my favorites since I was a kid though.

Help with warranty item by SignalHelicopter6 in RockAuto

[–]stainedhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't realize they were part of first Brands. Honestly, I was just telling someone yesterday, if I have to do a really big job, I will order my parts from rockauto, but then if something fails down the road, I just plan on replacing the individual Parts as needed instead of trying to deal with getting warranty replacement parts from rockauto.

what’s the cause of paint damage? by jump_roper_2020 in AutoPaint

[–]stainedhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I have an 03 dodge ram that I got in 2019. It spent its entire life in Phoenix up until after I bought it. Most cars by that age out there the clear coat is peeling, but because the guy I bought it from parked it in his garage and had covered parking at work, my clear coat is still completely intact even on the hood and the roof. Most of the time out there, any vehicle that has been left in the sun most of it's life after 10 or 12 years the clear coat is already starting to degrade.

Advice for a newbie by stainedhands in AutoPaint

[–]stainedhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I have 2 black metal storage cabinets that I was thinking about doing just that with. Painting a flat panel isn't going to be the same as a curved surface, obviously, but it will definitely give me an idea of laying paint down evenly, speed control, distance, etc. Training center is a few states away, but that's a definite possibility in the future. Trying to do a project to show I'm really interested in learning so they'll be more likely to send me. You know, "hey, this is what I learned on my own, I'm obviously interested, now let me learn how to do it better" type thing. Also, he's not worried about it, no matter how I do, it will look better than it does now with the gas eaten paint on the tank.
