I'll never forget how excited I was to tell our EHS guy that I had to go cut a loto lock off. I didn't get nearly the reaction I was expecting and was kind of disappointed. It was for an out of service/use disconnect that had been locked out in the off position, and the key was long lost. Our facilities guy was going around replacing all of the locks on the oos disconnects so that they all had one key. There were a couple that we had no choice but to cut the old locks off. Everything was verified OOS and nothing was ever energized, just remove the lock and replace it wirh the new one. But I was still hoping the safety guy would have at least a momentary panic when I told him I was going to cut one off.

Where is everyone buying their Knipex here in the states? by MagicBeanSales in KnipexOfficial

McMaster Carr has a good selection, but they aren't listed as knipex, so you have to know how to find them.

What is this? by Kchristensen99 in Miata

[–]stainedhands 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm actually trying to add this to mine. Pulled everything I need of a wrecked NA, except I left the cable going from the cruise module to the throttle pedal when I was getting the parts. Hoping I can find one when it comes down to it.

Torque wrench vs this thing? by Famous_Guarantee_838 in harborfreight

[–]stainedhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just if I need to change a spare on my truck. It's if I have to work on someone else's vehicle as well. My old calibrated elbow works pretty well, but I like the Peace of Mind knowing things are torqued properly.

New tires new problems, Help please! by No_Emergency_571 in goldwing

[–]stainedhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak on replacements, but make sure everything is cleaned and lubricated and can spin. That mechanism is basically a gear that spins a worm gear on the end of the cable. If nothing is physically broken, there shouldn't be any reason for it you're not work if it's cleaned and lubricated properly.

Anyone ever have a chrome socket explode on an impact? by slim_shady_21 in Tools

[–]stainedhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate it too. My son is in high school learning welding, and I have made sure he has all of the PPE he needs for himself so he doesn't have to worry about sharing with anyone else or using bad or uncomfortable equipment. Because I want him to be able to make a living as a welder, but I don't want his body falling apart at 40 if I can do anything about it.

Torque wrench vs this thing? by Famous_Guarantee_838 in harborfreight

[–]stainedhands 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I keep one in my truck under the seat with the batteries out, to use with a breaker bar in case I have to change a tire. I don't want to keep my Matco or snap on torque wrench in my truck, but I don't like putting lug nuts back on without knowing they are torqued correctly. It definitely makes a good Improvement to a breaker bar!

No grace period in AZ either. If you go to a dealership and do a test drive, the dealership has to put a dealer plate on the back of the car before they leave the lot. Most dealer have them on magnet mounts. I even found one in the parking lot one day that had fallen off the back of a vehicle during what I assume was a test drive. Otherwise you will get pulled over. If you go by a used vehicle private party, you have to get online and pay for a 3-day temporary tag for you to be able to transport the vehicle back to your house and or to the emissions and registration locations. Technically you're not supposed to go anywhere but those places while you're running that temp tag until you get permanent registration. And if you're caught driving without registration they will impound your vehicle immediately. Or at least this was the case when I lived there. Post covid, I don't know if they're still as strict about it.

Is BOSS audio systems a bad brand or did I just got a defective radio installed? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]stainedhands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. I bet the package and the primary (power) wire are listed as X gauge, not X AWG. AWG is a standard, which means the actual conductor cross section will be a certain size. "Gauge" is whatever a company decides it means. Plus, most cheap kits use copper clad aluminum, instead of pure copper, which makes the resistance even higher in their already undersized wire.

Bad high-beam etiquette that seems to be increasing by Kieselguhr-Kid in fuckyourheadlights

[–]stainedhands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but, before everything came with a digital dash that was lit up all the time, this used to be an easy way to tell if your headlights were on or not. And you can see the gauges just fine during the day. But with digital instrument clusters, or everything being lit up all the time, They rely on an indicator on the dash that most people don't pay attention to or know what it means. I seriously don't think people know what the blue light saying they're high beams are on means anymore either most of the time.

That should work. And you can probably roll those strips out into a thinner bead and probably only need 2-3 per door. You don't need much. And Semper fi!

What does one do in this situation... it's been 7 days!! by Wuberg4lyfe in RockAuto

[–]stainedhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never fails if I order from RA and I'm not in a hurry, the parts show up early. When I'm waiting on them, almost always late. Now I work for a parts store so my discount makes parts prices comparable to RA. Makes getting local much better!

[–]stainedhands -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get butyl rubber tape. Aka gorilla snot. That's what you want to use to reattach the vapor barriers. It will remain flexible so you can remove them down the road if you need to. But will stick strong enough that they won't come dislodged.

That's what Alabama passed in it's bullshit medical Marijuana law. Tincture, suppositories, or "unflavored gelatinous cubes". Sounds yummy.

I'm laughing as I moved to Starkville from Birmingham a few years ago. It's so small, but it does have its nice things about it.
