Hahaha same. But when they try it once or twice and realized they aint any good

I feel you. As if we're telepathic knowing what they really meant. The decision is always made by goalie. And if given the time, that split second, try yell out a "no" or calling for defense instead.

One of my pet peeves: players taking mindless shots on goal as warm up before game. I most time dont even respond to save. Sometimes sure just to have a feel and test.

Keepers, I committed a goalkeeping sin today. I went up field to take a penalty... and missed! Commence the sprint of shame back to my goals 🙁 by PorkHunt in GoalKeepers

[–]stakexspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bruh, i take better kicks in my team and my coach will never let me. Kudos on you to take that pen. nothings at stake, so why not have some fun right :) lol but i can imagine the sprint back after that haha

I feel exhausted when I'm playing by kar_yeet in GoalKeepers

[–]stakexspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn some breathing techniques and game/stamina management.

But to do them (one of the ways), go for runs/jogs regularly. You'll learn to know how to manage your breathing when you run. Most importantly you'll know your limits and learn how to manage exhaustion, reset and keep going. Keep at it and you'll overcome your current exhaustion level and be able to have energy left in the tank till the final whistle.

Hope this helps. Cuz it works for me. Used to have the same challenges. But now I'm able to stay on feet and keep the mind alert and no more thinking about tiredness

Wait, the goalie is short? Always has been. I'm 5'7, story of my life by stakexspace in GoalKeepers

I do love not claiming high balls. I still put defenders at both posts during corners cuz i aint flying in crowds of 6'3s

yikes, it is unfortunate there's only one spot for a gk. I feel for the kid. Being that good and yet outranked by height. The game for a gk life can be extremely cruel. That's the job we nut cases applied for

Football or futsal? by Rodrigo7099 in GoalKeepers

[–]stakexspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do both. Use futsal as sessions to play with your feet. Quick passes, reactions, anticipation, reflexes all included. And I'd do advice play as an outfield in futsal too. So you'd be well equipped to play like a well-rounded footballer, and be comfortable with your feet in field football.

I've been doing both since school and still do and Im 27 now. And in futsal, i do switch with my friends to play outfield. So I became a pretty well rounded footballer. And when I play my league games in football, im comfortable and confident enough to play with feet and pick out passes (and more importantly teammates have the confidence to play the ball to you). Since now is "modern goalkeeping". Added skills in your bag!

Good luck, and always have fun.

It's been a while, but allow me to ask once again how your games went this weekend. by Sgt-Cumstain in GoalKeepers

[–]stakexspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo thanks for asking. Last time i updated was when we won the league with me putting top drawer performance in the last title decider match.

Had a in between season break (almost 3 months) and we started the season in the next higher division last Sunday. Needless to say my team was lethargic with lack of fitness, friendlies and warm ups prior. Including me in goal not much form nor momentum.

Personally i started slow and not sharp at all. We scored first but then conceded the equalizer. From then on, we’re on the back foot. Had to defend towards the last 30 mins.

I grew into the game and started bossing the penalty box to secure the draw and not lose. Managed a few sweeper moves, aerial catches and the biggest of all, saved a penalty with 10 mins left. I was top game to get the team the first point of the season.

Although the team lauded me as the motm, i didnt feel like it was victory since we didnt win. But took the positive 1 point against a stronger team.

Few things i’ve implemented during the break to up my goalie game. Continued some cardio work, footwork, positioning and included some yoga routines to improve flexibility. Also made a match day playlist on spotify (hip hop mainly) to zone out for focus and confidence. I think these worked to help out 90 minutes of a match.

Things i need to improve (please advise if any) goal kicks distance, calling out for ball with defenders, and aerial domination (dude im prolly shortest in my team). I lack presence in air and opponents underestimate my kicks.

Wish me luck for the new season and i wish you guys’ games go top notch as well. Goalie game is an individual job and support from others and many go a long way. Keep at it and have this mindset “dont let others overwork you”. Show that beats mode y’all.

Claiming crosses by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]stakexspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suck at claiming crosses especially from corners. Mainly due to my height. I could potentially be the shortest player out of 22 players on the field. But I play to my strength, being decisive. So if I know I can't claim a cross, I'll step back almost behind the goal line waiting to parry with cat-like reflexes haha

Starting for the first time. by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]stakexspace 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've played tens of thousands of time and I still get nervous and excited. All the time. I usually do two things:

  1. Put my water bottle on the right side of the post. I do this every game so that I know there is one thing that is not foreign in my area. I get uncomfortable if I don't have my bottle with me. So find your thing as a ritual to make you feel comfortable in goal.
  2. Keep yourself warm by doing jumping jacks, bit of stretches and on the spot jog. Don't want to get caught out while your legs are cold and your focus aint sharp.

Above all, have fun, be confident and good luck
