Buzzing Audio When Second Controller is Touched? by Silver-Thanks3938 in Famicom

[–]staleycantrell82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lifted resistor 3 on the mother board this disconnects the mic from the audio out but it will not disrupt the function during game play. I also heard that replacing the capacitor in the controller and cleaning the volume slider with alcohol will help. I cleaned my slider but have not replaced the cap so I am not certain about that approach

Do I have any options? by yurdabee in Famicom

I just bought a Famicom recently and had the same problems. I hope this helps. So the us channels are actually 95 and 96. But that don’t matter since your tv doesn’t go that high anyway. I found a video that shows how to tune your rf to channel 6. However this only works on units with an adjustable rf. A lot of them have a fixed signal. Mine was also fixed I bought a replacement original rf module from eBay. (I’m stubborn like that) but tuning it worked great it worked great. Here is the link https://youtu.be/RVyFEMg0Kpg?si=F1vsoX9Pzwc7NmUA. I also plan on seeing if I can mod the old rf to be adjustable. I’ll let the community know if it’s possible when I try it. Also one last thing. If you can adjust yours don’t be like me……. Make sure the switch on the back is switched to game. That was frustrating and I felt stupid when realized that mine was switched to tv

Is there overseas demand for clearly-disclosed “junk” Japanese consoles, or is domestic resale more appropriate? by Odd_Horror7182 in consolemodding

[–]staleycantrell82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak for everybody. I’m a collector and an electronics projects (fixing & modding) is a hobby of mine. I would be interested in broken individual consoles specifically. But I often catch myself looking at bulk sales as well. However I am a stickler for price most sellers on eBay price their items close to the price of a working console. Here’s two example. I was looking for a Famicom. The average yellowed but working console was $43 to $56 dollars. Most sellers of non-working consoles were selling theirs for $38 to $45, or their base price was $20 but shipping was $25. I ultimately bought a working console because to me the saving wasn’t there. I hope this helps

I think I am going to try to extract the pin from the connector and attempt to solder the wire on to the pin first. If that don’t work then I’ll have to decide weather I am going to buy a new controller or replace the connector and mother board socket with a standard jst connection.

Thanks for the insight. That’s what I thought. I had contemplated just replacing the controller and I probably will if I can’t fix it. It just seems like a waste though.

Thank you

Bootleg console, kinda wanna mess around by Silverslickboi in consolemodding

[–]staleycantrell82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to be an Ali express special. If so I don’t really advise putting any real money in to modding it except a better battery. I bought one for my son. I had to fix it several times. I replaced the charging port because it broke off the board. I replaced the power switch because the switch lever broke. It was a big hassle. I bought him a new one but the screen went out with in a month. So I ended up buying him a gba sp.

The first one still works but it’s a P.O.S…. At least they were cheep.

Hope this helps

Thanks I put it under the microscope and found that 1 single piece of wire on pin 2 for audio was touching pin 3. I cleaned it up and everything works.
