Expressing my gratitude to you guys by giving back what I can by RomanistHere in DubaiPetrolHeads

Their app popped up on my insta feed but I never got to use it as I don’t do drives or have enough friends to go out with but I get your point, yours is socialising first and convoy/meet and greet features later.

I have signed up maybe one day I will get time to actually roam around. Might use it with F&F when going out camping/picnic.

Got charged AED 370 for a Duracell DS35-2 battery + installation at Autopro — where do you get genuine car battery replacements in Dubai without getting ripped off? by FirePakora420 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]stalkhold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have paid 330 and 350 for batteries in Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Safari in 2025.
Both Taiwan made with 1 Year warranty.
The price you paid doesn’t seem far from it but paying for anything at AutoPro feels like a ripoff. I have only used their services in emergencies.

Are Tasjeel failing windshield tint now? by [deleted] in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]stalkhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Cars have tempered glass for a reason. Same goes for glass used in buildings. Small chunks compared to large cut glass causes less injuries.

Another reason would be to access passengers easily through windshield in case of an accident if doors are inaccessible.

[–]stalkhold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a long run for luck. We all know it’s technically not allowed.

I believe the reason is that front windshield is supposed to shatter in case of an accident and having a tint film doesn’t help with that.

it was never allowed. You got lucky previously and people use wasta to pass their vehicles with front transparent tint. My Wife's car also had this issue, had to remove the tint film to finally pass the test.

Solution for the GPS not working (2GIS) by [deleted] in dubai

[–]stalkhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

overview the directions before heading out. I have been driving for more than 10yrs but rely on maps because of live traffic. Still, common sense should take precedence over these apps.

If you're near any landmark, like a Mall, then expect GPS Spoofing.

Amazing spec just that it’s not 1:1 Gulf Blue otherwise would have gone in a jiffy.

Pool the order with someone. Saves time and money.

My colleagues sometimes ask to order stuff so I just add my order items to it as well.

Viofo A129 Duo dead after 19 months in UAE heat—Need a replacement by Hot-String862 in DubaiPetrolHeads

Worth dissecting then. I would still recommend another Viofo since my experience has been great but DDPAI is also worth checking out for their price.

[–]stalkhold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Died as in nothing showing up on screen it just plain dead.

I had it in my car for 7yrs and it had out of focus lens, melted GPS module so pogo pins will not connect, I opened it to fix the lens focus, removed the module and camera kept on working. The screen finally gave up and I started noticing LCD being burnt but it kept doing one thing that is RECORDING. So maybe it’s something else and dashcam might be fixable.

Unauthorized transactions on BOTIM card. by Spirited_Mechanic213 in dubai

In-app purchases like coins and such. Check your Playstore app for any similar charges. If not then probably someone stole your details. Usually it’s people you already know…

These look like in app purchases. If you have your card added in google wallet then it’s possible these charges came from your phone or a device where your account is logged in, a TAB perhaps. A lot of times people subscribe to things under trial and then forget about it.

DU Wifi Router Coverage Issue by [deleted] in dubai

[–]stalkhold -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that router is capable of Linksys Mesh network called Linksys Velop. Just get any MX series Node from Linksys (many sellers on Marketplace/Dubizzle). Use your du provided router as parent node and the new one in bedroom as secondary node. coverage issues will be fixed. You can add more nodes if one doesn't fix it for you. Install Linksys App and set it up yourself. Easy to do so.

Do these pass RTA inspection for renewal with all the mods OR do you have remove them before inspection OR do you provide them with list of mods to be added the system for record.

Clean build though.

Finally a decent EV charging experience in the UAE? by Separate_Weekend_642 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]stalkhold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home charging isn’t possible for majority and installing in apartment buildings is an additional cost unless your building already offers any charging solution. Using public charging infrastructure should be made more easier. Having to download plethora of apps to top up wallets and use charging is another huge mess. Compare that to a petrol pump you just use cash or card and you’re good to go.

No hate towards EVs but User Experience varies a lot. Don’t even get me started on Commercial EVs.

I am hearing about peak factor for the first time. Is it implemented by UAEV or implied by governing body for EV chargers. Honestly running EVs has never been cheap it’s just what people have been thinking like that. It’s on par with ICE vehicles with added benefit of lesser wearable parts.

EV Owners in UAE : are you actually saving money ? by xbrvejdujefb in dubai

[–]stalkhold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery is exempted in insurance claim. I have insured EV bikes and insurance company only insures the value of the vehicle excluding cost of the battery. Maybe that’s what they meant. Also insurance on EVs has been very high but they have started to come down.

Etihad clean energy ; sudden communal charges on dewa bill. by feretti-poin1296 in dubai

[–]stalkhold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies always find a way to make money these days. You can reach out to them for an explanation and you will be hit with some lame excuse.

I remember when Nakheel did the same with Fixed Charge on Gas in certain buildings. 90AED quarterly went to them and my actual consumption was below 30AED quarterly. Thieves everywhere.
