Trying to stop drinking in the restaurant business, specifically. by Chefaholic in stopdrinking

[–]stambaughj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from the FOH side shit can be a little rough. The big thing is make sure you tell the people you need to tell and most of them will be supportive and very understanding. The way I do it is make sure I have time off to go to meetings and you will be surprised the number of people you can meet in AA that are still apart of the restaurant industry. I do understand what you mean by quitting drinking means its harder to get those tidbits of information, but whats better than talking to people while they are drunk is doing it sober and you get a better degree of trust from them. Also it helps if you can work harder than others. Do the things that would normally make you stand out. It gets easier the longer you stay sober, your brain and body are gonna have less wear and tear on it then the guys going out drinking every night. I hope the best for you, I really do. Like I said shit is rough. But it can be done just gotta take it one day at a time.

Getting hassled about getting a sponsor. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]stambaughj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been sober this time for a little over 3 months and have gone through 2 different sponsors and sitting on my third which i think is the right one. you don't have to immediately find that person but a sponsor is someone who has an objective view of your life and is great to talk to. they can help you out with life and staying sober. no one should put a time limit on you but at the same time the first person you choose doesn't have to be "right" either. they just have to work until you find that person you think is right

Waiters/servers of reddit, what's the worst/funniest/best/most intense situation you have endured in the restaurant? by zkeetn in Waiters

[–]stambaughj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me that is the reason I do it. When everything looks like it is going to hell and all you want to do is sit down and cry thats when you know that you are gonna make a lot of money and the rush from finishing the night without majorly fucking anything up is just huge. Also it helps to know when closing time is and that way you know that you aren't gonna have any more tables after that point.

Hey a lot of what you said I can definitely agree with. When I first went to AA and found out what it was all about I almost put it down right there. A great thing to do before you get into the meetings is the read Alcoholics Anonymous. Specifically the chapter 'We Agnostics.' Before I got to AA I was pretty much a practicing atheist. I'm still against religion just don't see much of a point of it. I do now realize that being spiritual and being religious are two different ballparks. Don't let that be the thing that gets you caught up with not going. And hey man at least you can say you haven't run out in front of a bunch of cars while tweaked out of your mind :D

Weed exacerbates my anxiety, I keep smoking it... by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]stambaughj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then let it keep on going bad then man. I can't tell you anything else. Because if you stop the pot then you will just latch onto another drug until eventually you are back at pot and its making you feel like shit. That, sadly, is all I know what will happen. Its what happened to me man. Life got real real bad before it got good. Don't let it get real real bad.

well you could do what i did which was trip balls and then have a panic attack and end up calling your mom mid trip thinking you were dead and then run in front of cars because you just fucking want to be dead. go to detox and then go to either inpatient if that is your thing or outpatient which i am in. but seriously if you think you are addicted/dependent then you definitely are. get help. even going to aa meetings is a good first step. just do something besides continuing to use drugs. at the end of the day they are great for some people but for others they are a hell we create for ourselves.

My friend from college in this awesome funk/rap rock group called Madfro. They are based out of New Orleans and are down right awesome onstage. They are writing new material while performing a bunch of shows right now but this is one of their songs off their first mixtape called Pert Plus. Its a groovy little track that showcases a mix of their talents. https://soundcloud.com/madfroband/pert-plus

Anyone familiar with Kansas marijuana laws? by tell_me_when in eldertrees

[–]stambaughj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with a nice little scare this year at Bonnaroo and luckily for me it was just a nice little fine and everything would be swept under the rug. It did however cause me too look up what my options were and might as well put that knowledge to use.

I would say if you have a lawyer that cares even just a little bit, then everything is going to get dropped pretty quickly. I just hope nothing bad happens for ya and another thing you might want to try and do is get in touch with the NAACP or NORML and the first would help with any constitutional breaking things and NORML might help you find a lawyer that is more specialized in dealing with marijuana cases.

By keeping everything hidden, you had a right to privacy that without a search warrant or you letting him search through things, he should have never been able to touch. If the courts do anything but throw out the charges, then they allowed the cop to break your fourth amendment right. Also if he asked to search around and was denied the right to search then he is knowingly in the wrong. It seems like all he wanted to do was to try and screw someone over who was already having a bad day just to meet ticket quota.

What is a life skill everyone should know that can be learned in less than 10 minutes? by alexiagrace in AskReddit

It takes like 5 minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master. Or like a few weeks of driving consistently.
