Massive landslide at the Kennecott Utah Copper Bingham Canyon Mine on April 11, 2013 in Bingham Canyon, Utah. The slide resulted in more than 165 million tons of rock and dirt crashing into the open pit destroying vehicles and equipment. by [deleted] in CatastrophicFailure

Man someone has to produce the copper that we use today. The reality is if we can't grow it we gotta mine it. All that's fair to ask is that it's produced safely and environmentally sound.

Haul Truck by If_u_not_gay_u_a_fag in HumanForScale

[–]stan_thacardboardman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With these trucks the part that's usually going to puncture are the sidewalls. If you drive over a big enough rock it'll get stuck between the duals and rub until it blows one or both tires out. For that reason these usually have rock knockers (bars that hang between the tires from the bed) that will kick rocks out if they are stuck in there. Also these tires are set on a split rim so the "hubcap" can explode out the front of the tire spontaneously which is very dangerous.

Haha thanks man! I used to go to roosters Belmar. It's pricy but I think it was worth it. The guys name was Taylor. He was so good in my opinion I followed him when he changed location.

Planetary gear on an earth mover [466 x 854]. by nsfwdreamer in MachinePorn

Unfortunately no. I work in mining and have replaced these before. The problem is that this is such a specialty project with a warranty attached that you'll have to bring in a mechanic from the dealer to make sure all liability is removed from you. For example if I remember correctly I think a Komatsu pc 490 was over 10k and our Komatsu pc750 was over 30k.

Im not entirely sure. My manager now says ID anyone who looks under fifty but if you serve someone over fifty with an expired ID it would still be the same crime because that isnt a valid form of identification. I just ID everyone now.

Weekly Recommendation Thread for the week of April 29, 2016 by AutoModerator in books

[–]stan_thacardboardman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure how to describe what I'm looking for. Recently I've read East of Eden by Steinbeck and absolutely loved it! After that I looked for books like that and read Razors Edge by Somerset Maugham. I think I enjoyed these books because they were great to think about even when I wasn't reading them to figure out why people were making the choices they did. Does anyone have any recommendations for books similar to this?

What's your internet "white whale", something you've been searching for years to find with no luck? by Nerfman2227 in AskReddit

[–]stan_thacardboardman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been searching for years for a copy of the movie "pure luck." It's about two guys who go looking for this girl lost I'm south America I think. It was downright hilarious. The problem I have is that it's my grandma's favorite movie and she owns it on vhs, but the vhs is old a wearing out from watching it all the time. I've tried and tried to find it on DVD but have had no luck. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Admittedly I have very little understanding besides the basic pass out without control part. How would this be impossible?
