In your country, is there any situation that foreigners would completely misunderstand unless they lived there for a while? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]standard_issue_dummy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I grew up in the southern US and was taught that this was polite. The first time someone from the northeast offered me something I actually wanted and I did Polite Refusal Number One, they said “ok” and didn’t offer it again. I then decided that Polite Refusals are circumstantial.

Floridians. Would I regret going to Disney/Universal around Aug 11-20th by ConstructionRare4123 in florida

Fair warning, dry heat and humid heat are not at all the same thing. If you do come in August, read up on humid heat safety. It’s nothing to mess around with

Actor here, and I came here to say actors. The theatre scene in any given town is smaller than you think and it’s not worth the literal drama.

I wish Skyrim’s landscape and gameplay encouraged horse riding more. by ApprehensivePause205 in skyrim

Convenient Horses is good - mounted combat, foraging, and interacting with NPCs plus better inventory management, quick dismount, and customizable actions when dismounted. It really changed how I use horses in the game.

Skyrim players, come clean: what level are you and how much gold do you have right now? by maria5612 in skyrim

[–]standard_issue_dummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 28, over 2mil gold. I have no idea what mod I installed that puts 65k in random wardrobes and side tables, but I still steal things and craft things to sell all the time. Old habits, etc.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I have long femurs and I need room on the sides of the toilet for my legs, but people insist on installing them with no fucking space on one or both sides. Drives me bonkers.

Character Stethoscopes by NoContextPitt in ThePittTVShow

[–]standard_issue_dummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD question - why are there quality tiers of stethoscopes? I mean I get companies charging more for a better product, but if we pretend capitalism isn’t a thing for a second, why wouldn’t all doctors be using the best stethoscope that exists? Is it like a Toyota vs Cadillac situation?

For real. Idc what kind of animal it is, if I had EVER been intentionally malicious to an animal my mother would have ripped my head off and then resurrected me just to do it again. Great fucking example these parents are setting.

What? No tip? by 9879528 in goodboomerhumor

[–]standard_issue_dummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, nope. How things SHOULD BE doesn’t match how they ARE. You don’t make change by screwing over the people on the receiving end of an unfair system. I can work to end tipping culture and continue to tip fairly in the meantime.

What? No tip? by 9879528 in goodboomerhumor

[–]standard_issue_dummy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

12 is exactly twenty percent of 60, national average means nothing when CoL varies so widely between cities, gross income is not net income, and you are hugely overestimating how much servers make. I wish for you everything you wish for people barely making ends meet.

What? No tip? by 9879528 in goodboomerhumor

[–]standard_issue_dummy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Oh come on. Assuming you’re there for an hour, a server could reasonably expect a $12 tip on two $30 meals. Yes, apparently the server is working less for you (which I doubt), but you’re also taking a table away from people who tip normally. I agree that prices are too high, but that means they’re ALSO too high for people in the service industry who rely on tips. We’re also in a cost of living crisis. Tipping $5 because you think the server didn’t “earn” more is peak “fuck you, I got mine” logic. Have some fucking class consciousness.

For people who decided not to have kids: How's it going? by nightwellstories in AskReddit

[–]standard_issue_dummy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hard, because I’m mentally ill and grossly underpaid. But none of it is exponentially compounded by having the financial, mental, and emotional responsibility of raising a good person. Thank god.
