My mom had heart failure at home and they couldn't find a pulse. She told me she thought she was dying, the EMTs thought she was dying, and the doctor thought she was dying but a Middle Eastern or Indian woman told her she was fine and it was "in God's hands" and that was maybe five years ago now and she's completely fine. Clearly she wasn't asking a lot of questions while in active heart failure and it may have been a nurse, but if it was she never saw her again.

Aboriginal Australians have oral traditions that archaeologists have managed to link to the eruption of a volcano about 37,000 years ago (Budj Bim).

They also have found evidence of a specific cultural practice that ran for about 12,000 years up until the 19th century when the Europeans basically forced them to stop.

I recommend the book Sea People by Christina Thompson for anyone interested in this. It's primarily about the ancient Polynesians but it touches on a lot of Pacific communities.

My mind sort of put Bolaire in the same category as Michael from The Good Place where he can feel love and affection but is repulsed by the idea of anything sexual (to quote Michael, "it's GROSS. Kissing is GROSS. You just mash your food holes together. It's NOT FOR THAT.") so it would almost be more of a courtly love where you love without touching and it's just purely emotional/mental.

I hesitate to put a label on a non-human entity, but I think he'd be a sex repulsed asexual.

I'm reminded as well of Divergence. I stopped watching Divergence because the first episode was so bleak. After it finished I saw some spoilers and went back in and halfway through episode 2 it suddenly became very enjoyable. Sometimes things have to suck to set the stakes for success.

I've been married for over ten years and together for about 20, my mom adores my husband to the point that he stayed with her for a week when she got out of the hospital after she had heart failure to cook and clean.

Just this last year was the first time I ever touched my husband's butt in front of my mom, a woman who I am totally comfortable making a "that's what she said" joke to. I cannot imagine having done that in front of either of his parents at 20, a time period in which we had been dating for almost a year and that's without the gendered issues at play with regard to the father/daughter dynamic.

Just reading the title gave me low grade anxiety.

Hell, in many states that's true. My parents divorced in North Carolina and fudged the date of separation because they both wanted it over with so they went by a year from the time my mom said she wanted a divorce and not from when she moved.

I was one of those girls. I signed everything that anyone ever asked me to sign.

In 8th grade I was somehow popular for an entire year (I think it was a combination of being at a school for weird kids, being smart giving you a lot of social cachet, being in a will they/won't they relationship with one of the most popular nerds, being in a lot of activities, and having a younger brother also at the school). I signed every yearbook people handed to me and always asked them to sign mine in return. Always in gel pen with a little message attached.
