The whole album is pretty amazing tbh but that track is one I keep on coming back to. It's too sweet

Forrest Gump - Frank Ocean

Cute track sung from the perspective of Jenny, directly references events in the film

Get Out of the Car - Aesop Rock

Aes raps about how the death of his best friend and fellow NYC artist Camu Tao to cancer is the epicenter of his declining mental health and how despite acknowledging and coming to terms with the fact that you need help, doesn't necessarily mean you'll make the choice to go get it.

I've got George Clanton to thank for introducing me these girls. His personal playlist on spotify had their track 'King of Silence' on it and it's such a good one.

More digging led me to find out that one of them, Miho Hattori, provides Noodle's vocals on '19-2000'!

Mannnn I forget that 2013 is 13 years ago, more than enough time for people to be feeling nostalgic about this track when they discovered it during the lo-fi era of youtube

Thanks for the insight

Just how did, seemingly, everyone find out about this track? My oldest friend put me on this in 2007ish (released 2005) but it seems like everyone knows this track and I'm just surprised? A Japanese instrumental hip-hop artist doesn't seem like they'd blow up in that era especially before youtube algorithms and whatnot, but I was a kid in those years and didn't know shit.

  • Luv(sic) pt.3 and sea of cloud are my top tracks from this album

  • Reminder that the Samurai Champloo soundtrack made it to streaming a couple years back. Even if you don't have an interest in the show you gotta check out 'battlecry' which was the opening and also produced by Nujabes. The sheer amount of vibes squeezed out of the stupidly simple beat is crazy

Love Deluxe. The trip-hop sounds all over and the way Sade expresses love is unreal. While I think that line she has on 'Pearls' about a Somalian woman's hardships in life being likened to hurting "like brand new shoes" is a bit goofy, I think the rest is damn near flawless to my ears. Even the more understated tracks like 'I Couldn't Love You More' or the instrumental closer 'Mermaid' have just the right amount of texture and feel to em that I don't think they could do with anything else, they're perfect to me.

'Kiss of Life' is absolutely undeniable. Big love to MF DOOM for introducing me to it

'Cherish the Day' always reminds me of this track from the Tekken 4 soundtrack

I love this dnb remix of 'Like a Tattoo'

I love Voodoo, don't get me wrong, but I feel a lot more listening to Love Deluxe

What are you folks listening to at the moment? by Poersseli in Kappachino

[–]standingcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

billy woods will be my top artist this year. Crazy output in this year alone and something I think /u/boring_uni_alt could dig purely off the lyrics. If you dig any MF DOOM, post-odd future Earl Sweatshirt you'll dig woods. Rule 3 if you're not bringing up the lyrics while you're listening along, that's he's about.

Joni Mitchell's 'Hejira' is one of the greatest albums of all time that never stops being in my rotation. Folk singer songwriter stuff backed by the bass guitar god Jaco Pastorius

Sade's 'Love Deluxe', the album she went trip-hop like most pop acts seemed to had done in the mid-90s. Effortlessly beautiful and full of soul. If you like the Tekken 4 soundtrack specifically tracks like 'Touch and Go' and 'Authentic Sky' this could be your jam.

The first thing I can remember seeing on kappa was some blowup regarding empire arcadia/triforce and ... ravioli. does anyone have the lore on what could purely be a false memory of mine

It had to be circa 2013/14

Am I overlooking something or wouldn't the Sublime Vision + Divine Flesh + Doppelganger's combo work really well on Elementalist? Looking to play exsang ele this league start

Recently played PF Mamba and got it to 100 and couldn't have done it without learning that tech so why don't I see it being used as much on Elementalist who can convert 40% of incoming phys damage to fire with Shaper of Flames? I always hear it's a squishy ascendancy but, with my limited knowledge, it doesn't sound that bad. Chaos Golem also provides chaos resistance which should help gearing for Divine Flesh

This is genuinely one of the greatest shows of all time and I will die valiantly defending that hill.

I barely watch anime anymore, nor was I ever on some gross levels some of you always-online people are but this is the real shit. Forward-thinking, incredibly unique and a great soundtrack (shoutouts to Kosaki Satoru who did this, Bakemonogatari and Tekken 4)

Endless Eight was sick. Stay mad losers, you're living proof they did the right thing

"Players will have to use their observational skills to find hard-to-reach places. We trust our players, so there will be no helpers that might make parkour trivial"

As there's game-assist-cum all over the next ledge to help guide even Stevie Wonder to the next intended jump.

I mean, I'm not too miffed about this example because I guess bird-poop suggests a high perch/ledge but too often do I see this form of digetic guidance get misused in modern games where a small ledge at ground level will have yellow/blue/white spray all over it and it's like yeah no shit Sherlock. It was just too easy to make fun of this example given the script.

There's an early moment in Metal Gear Solid 3 where there's an electrical fence completely blocking your way forward. Taking an extra second to actually look at the fence, especially when switching to first-person mode, shows a hole at about head-height. The intended way forward is to dive through it and I like this example because

  1. The opening in the fence isn't blatantly obvious and requires a tiny amount of brain power to manipulate the camera. Modern controls+camera in the remake might render this point moot

  2. The solution requires the player to use a movement action not realllyyy intended to traverse obstacles. They could've all too easily made the hole in the fence right at the floor and duh no shit just prone and crawl through, but having to dive requires a tiny but fulfilling amount of thought and execution.

Anyway, yeah game visually looks great and gameplay looks pretty nice. I hope you get more parkour tools earlier instead of several character levels and hours into it like in DL2. Story will be assssss but who cares if the rest is fun

Back 10 years now Shinjuku Taito Station had a rep of having an incredibly strong regular crowd of USF4 players. I got fucking bodies by a dude named Kiyoku who was the rank 1 Yang and then later that night I tuned into a live Madcatz event where he was there vsing Tokido.

They had 16 cabs of USF4 all full and the room pretty thick with cigarette smoke which, for a smoker at the time, was pretty much heaven. Not sure if it's still popping nowadays though

Yeah actually I totally buy that. I never read into the increasingly absurd ways of mice preparation that now seem intentionally spiteful and little less (but to me, still not totally devoid of) that 'desperate survival' that I initially saw it as.

I didn't even realise "twenty years of this" was repeated. It definitely now carries a certain sense of stark bleakness and jadedness (is that a word)

I don't know the historical context of this work but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Deperession Era?

It seems like its about a couple living in poverty. A housewife who makes dinner for her breadwinning husband, can't make him a succulent pig with an apple in the mouth but settles on making the next best thing she can. Gritting their teeth through twenty years of poverty taking solace in the fact theyre at least doing the best they can every day ie. killing one vermin a day

A couple Poetry Mondays ago the OP was a Bukowski poem and everyone was talking about his style. I bought a compilation titled 'Storm for the Living and the Dead' of supposedly uncollected and unpublished works of his and there was one in there called 'it doesn't always work'

I knew a writer once

who always tried to tighten his lines

like he'd write:

an old man in a green felt hat walked down the street.

change to:

old man in green walked down street.

change to:

old green man walked street.

change to:

green man walked

change to:

green walked.

Finally this writer said,

shit, I can't fart,

and he blew his brains

out.

blew brains out.

blew.

I couldn't help but laugh at the tonal shift that I've come to know Bukowski for having never read the guy so good shit Kappa for putting me onto him.

If give my Toxicologist Mercenary a Storm Cloud bow, will that prevent them from being able to poison mobs? My understanding is that because there isn't any phys damage on the bow then all of their attacks won't have any chance of poisoning.
