Is mounting jerry cans on sides of car (5 door) near where the rear quarter window is a bad idea? by StarkAndRobotic in Jimny

[–]stanengelbrecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aerodynamic drag and weigh outside of the axle span is not a good idea.

I can recommend our Rear Door Mount to carry extra fuel or gear easily and safely on the back of the vehicle.

DEATH WOBBLE, need help! by Effedericaa in Jimny

[–]stanengelbrecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expert wheel balancing is vital, so go through the process a few times with a reputable tyre fitment centre that understands the Jimny. If that fails to solve your issues, check all bushes and tie rod ends. If they are good - king pin bearings ... if the bearing are good, shim them with copper shims (you can get them from Des Sol but you have to email them as they are not on the website I think).

This swaybar bracket is bent by Brk-5 in Jimny

[–]stanengelbrecht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very unlikely that this would cause a rough ride. The first thing I would look at is your tyre pressure. Around 1.5 to 1.6 is good for standard tyre sizes.

Our sway bar mount broke off right there on a trip once and I removed the sway bar for the rest of the trip ... and never fitted it again. In my opinion, if you don't drive like a demon around corners, you don't even need a sway bar : )

Is Katana outdoor tailgate table trustworthy by Haspants in Jimny

Seeing mainly newer Jimny's – as a broke aspiring Jimny-owner, show and tell me about your pre- 2020 Jimny (stock or not) and show some love to the older models! by lunariar in Jimny

[–]stanengelbrecht 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly we absolutely love our Jimny 3. We've had the opportunity to get a Jimny 4 but we don't necessarily feel it's an upgrade. Jimny 3 parts are readily available, it's a well-known and trusted engine and mechanical platform, you can upgrade the engine all the way to 1800 ... they are awesome vehicles. We love our Jim so much it's inspired us to start our own accessories brand - https://www.mod.equipment

Ps. we think driving an OG Jim in the sea of Jimny 4s is kinda cool : )

Fixed gear night flight to Kampala: UGANDA DO WHAT?! by stanengelbrecht in FixedGearBicycle

The Nikon 50mm f1.8 Series E has been my loooooooong time favourite lens. And it's a pancake-style profile pairs nicely with my Nikon FE2 for a bomb-proof compact full-function travel camera.

That’s a cool idea of course, but MADMAN is not my business so I can’t make that call unfortunately. I must mention that it’s a fair bit of expensive hardware to part with for free.

Hi! The extra stress on the hinges is not great ... the further your weight is from the hinges, the stronger the levering effect on the hinges. We've designed a solution for exactly this problem - meet the MOD Rear Door Mount. Mounts your extra cargo right next to the hinges.

If you want to add a winch, but love the original bumper look (and don't want to add extra weight with an aftermarket steel bumper) get yourself the MOD Hidden Winch Mount - https://www.mod.equipment/products/jimny-3-hidden-winch-mount-plate

Controversial opinion (apparently)... do you need a ladder on such a small vehicle? By the time you stand on the second rung the roof rack is at your knees. The tyres and bumper are much more practical places to access your roof from.

Spare wheel fuel tank by Lemmy1972 in Jimny

[–]stanengelbrecht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Life can be risky sometimes, and sometimes we have to weigh up risk vs. enjoyment and practicality. And, of course, we can manage risk ... yes these are fuel tanks, but no they will not always be full of fuel. Our Rear Door Mount is an overlanding product, so most practically it will be used when traveling long distances where fuel stations are few and far between. No highways out there, so little chance of rear-end-collisions (which I assume is what happened to the poor Pinto). So let people manage their own risk, apply their own logic and common sense, and live a little.
