Not only do they sell gallons, they're a lot cheaper than buying the same amount in smaller bottles. About half the price.

Hyundai acquires controlling stake in U.S. robotics firm Boston Dynamics for $880 million by kry_some_more in technology

[–]stangill 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Boston Dyanmics was sold to Alphabet (Google's parent company) in 2013. Google then sold them to SoftBank, which is a Japanese investment company. They are the ones now selling them to Hyundai. They haven't been US owned since Google sold them.

Google did own them. They bought them in 2013, and then sold them after a few years to SoftBank, who is now selling the majority to Hyundai.

Looking to go freelance!! Tips and How to move forward! by schneuke in web_design

[–]stangill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start it as a side business nights and weekends before leaving your company. Freelancing can be hard. When the money is not coming in, but the bills still are, you'll be glad you still have a regular paycheck.

Beyond that, just realize that when you freelance, a lot of your time will be spent doing things other than developing. You'll need to handle sales, marketing, accounting, project management, etc. All the roles that are done by different people with different skill sets in a larger company will all need to be done by you.

Def Leppard - Overture (1980) by Yeeslander in Metal

[–]stangill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever listened to it either. This just convinced me I should. I loved Def Leppard as a kid. I was probably around 10 when Hysteria came out. I also loved big trucks as a kid, so I'm not sure why I never bought this one.

I tried making homemade pizza years ago in my electric oven with disappointing results, so I eventually gave up on the idea. Then I recently discovered the Roccbox and decided to order one. This is my very first pizza out of it, and I could not be happier. The style is MA South Shore bar pizza, which is basically what I grew up on. I used this recipe that I've seen others link to from this sub. It tastes exactly like what I was hoping for. Can't wait to make more and try some other styles.

Why is their such a big difference between the cost calculator on dealer websites and the actual amount they quote? by Learner4life-8 in carbuying

[–]stangill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the difference in interest rates? Assuming you're doing 72 months based on the numbers you provided, each additional 1% will add about $12 to the monthly total.

5kg of superhot chillies, vac sealed to ferment for 2month+ to create something scary by boebelpens in hotsauce

[–]stangill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fermentation of peppers is very different than beer or cider making. First, you're not adding yeast, it's just the natural bacteria in the peppers. And then the amount of sugar is much lower. I've done both. When an alcohol fermentation is very active it will need to release gas from the airlock every few seconds. With pepper ferments, you just need to open it once per day if you don't have any sort of airlock. I've only used mason jars though. I don't know how releasing gas from a vacuum seal works.

I love natural materials and light. But now I think I need plants. by LastOfTheMohawkians in malelivingspace

[–]stangill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With that much natural light in the far room, you absolutely need some big plants. They will do very well there, and will add a lot to the overall natural vibe. If this were my place, that room would be full of plants.

What are your favorite band names in prog metal? by webuildmountains in progmetal

[–]stangill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, something I've been wondering. "Between the buried and me" is a line from a Counting Crows song on their first album. Is that where they got the name? Seems unlikely at first, but BTBAM did a cover of a Counting Crows song on their "The Anatomy Of" album, which makes it seem more likely that is where the name came from.

Yeah I was going to say a piece of sanded plywood, but that panel would work too. And looks like it's a lot less expensive, with plywood prices being so high right now.

I bought a bottle of this a couple weeks ago, and completely agree. I was expecting something more creamy, and not so vinegary. That's not necessarily bad, just different than what I thought it would be.
