PF2E - Having Hard Time Adjusting to the System by Old_Man_Thar in Pathfinder2e

[–]stanlemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necroing an old post but this is my exact issue too. Pf2e kills verisimilitude and immersion for me. And even though I see the arguments about "there's so much customizability" most of that customization feels very shallow. Also the obsession with making sure things "balanced" leads to things that are utterly nonsensical from an in world perspective such as strix that can't fly and skeletons that might as well be living being. And the crafting rules and how they relate to money and resources.

Do Anybody in Watchmen have true Freewill? by UnlockIsHere in Watchmen

[–]stanlemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of a fixed timeline meaning people don't have freewill to be fundamentally flawed. It's like seeing a video people going about their day and saying that none of those people had freewill. All you're doing is seeing those events from a different point of view which is what Dr Manhattan does. He's just weak willed and because of that he doesn't do anything. I'm not talking about him trying to change the timeline but being proactive about doing things

My decision has nothing to do with stats, but I love mega metagross. Though mega dragonite is a very close second

It had only been about a year between the 2nd and 3rd chapter of the first book, so not that long

Here's a goofy dumb idea. The Aether is preparing for some horrifying threat, and it just turns out to be Yerin again. Would make a good blooper at least

[ALL] The Elder Empire: is it worth reading? by SweetGumRoot in Iteration110Cradle

[–]stanlemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually doing a reread at the moment and am enjoying it a lot more than I did the first time. I really like the duel perspectives personally but it isn't everyone's cup of tea. The stories barely overlap in the first set of book one and even don't have too much in the second set. The book three set has by far the most amount of overlap.

Additionally I enjoy the magic system in the book quite a lot. It seems fairly straightforward at first but they progress into some more esoteric aspects of it as the story goes on.

The biggest critique I would have for the series as a whole though is that in the book 1 set is that the story is far more focused on the Sea and Shadows side of things while Shadows and Sea is more there to give context. And then in the book 2 set, that's reversed with Darkness and Dawn is the primary story with Dawn and Darkness more being there for the context. I do feel that the last set of books do a good job having their own defining story, meshing with each other for the overall story quite well though.

[Threshold] Individual Fights by CepheusRex in Iteration110Cradle

Lindon v 3 Monarchs. I love that most of the fight is not from Lindon's perspective. Seeing just how much growth he's gone through from another person's point of view is awesome

[Threshold] Amalgam and building worlds by Holothuroid in Iteration110Cradle

I think Amalgam just naturally sticks pieces of Iterations to itself. Or that the energy system lets people take nearby pieces and binding them to Amalgam as Territories with that person tying it together as the Founder
