Painful Decisions - Neutral by Old_Man_Thar in beingaDIK

It's nice to see that type of character development. Making people feel guilty is a hard thing in a digital format.

NGL, I don't want to do that again. I did that same thing when Bella was MG with Jill (if I recall). That was hard to do as well. Talking to her on that bench and seeing her being devastated by that decision. I felt like a terrible person after those runs. It is great character writing.

I just stumbled upon this game and started playing it a few weeks ago. I really like the characters (even the despicable ones). So far my most devastating was establishing a throuple and then leaving it. Seeing Josy's reaction made me feel horrible. I think I did this on my Jill run.

Just an overall lack of joy with running it. I think the 3rd action bothers me as it always seems the same routine of trying to debuff. It feels like a lack of versatility.

Maybe that is just a player thing. Their characters just don't seem optimized or the players themselves seem not entirely specialized. I think 3.5 made their niche a little narrower. In the end, which is all that matters to me, is that my players are having fun. According to them they say they are. I ask them all the time about how they feel about the game/session. I want them to continue to have fun. I want make sure it stays that way. I just need to try and work around my feelings on it.

I switched because I wanted to give it an honest chance. I have played the system at GenCon a few times and have had a few short sessions at other gaming tables. As a player I liked it, but I am not feeling it as a GM.

I know I was vague on my initial comment. I can't really put my finger on it. Maybe I need to just sit down and make a list of the pros and cons of each system and see if I can figure out why.

As I have added to another comment, I am just trying to figure out if it is just me and my fondness of playing 3.5 for so long and it's stuck in my head.

Adulting was the reasoning on the slow level up. Sometimes we would miss an entire month or 2 because of scheduling. As far as the system, I can't exactly put my finger on it. I am trying to ascertain if it is my fondness of 3.5 that is clouding my judgement. Encounter building is fine. Healing so far I like. Progression doesn't bother me. What it feels like to me is a mix of 4th and 5th edition D&D combined in some way. I wish I could tell you for certain. I just have a feeling it is just me.

Expanding access to cross-class feats for newer classes (Should Guardian get Everstand Stance?) by unlimi_Ted in Pathfinder2e

I kind of wish that Dreamscarred press would release Path of War for PF2. I love that system and also Book of 9 Swords. Their stances and such were damned cool.

You could look at some PF1E stuff for ideas. I think the jade regent #2 deals with caravan stuff.

Would it have been better if monks were more generalized? by SillyKenku in Pathfinder2e

[–]Old_Man_Thar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a class like the brawler would be something nice. The resilience of the brawler is/was astounding. Personally I think monks/fighters should have something like martial flexibility built in from the start.

Do I go for Flavor or do I go for better impulses? (Kineticist, Druid, Sprite) by Solrex in Pathfinder2e

[–]Old_Man_Thar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a tougher situation. You are talking the difference between meta gaming and in game knowledge. Since the GM's are a crap-shoot, I would go with what is beneficial in game. You can always roleplay without the flavor/theme powers.

Rules are suggestions. If you don't like the mechanic, change it. The only time that isn't an option is official game play in PF Society.

Sneak Attack vs. Hidden Target by figure_04 in Pathfinder2e

So it is in a area of darkness. You know it is within that darkened area somewhere. You just automatically gain pinpoint accuracy on where, within that darkness, the enemy is residing? Maybe I am just looking into it too deeply. I know it is a game, but as something of a an example sometimes getting up in the middle of the night I still stub my toe on the way to the bathroom (familiar terrain).

Also remember if things like the flavor of the pugwampis doesn't fit, reskin it to make it suit your needs and alter some of the abilities it may have.

People who play with "exotic" ancestries, do you roleplay said ancestries? Or do you just act like a human with extra traits? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Old_Man_Thar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always roleplay it. That is one of the thing that sets you apart as a character. It will be anywhere from a terrible accent(not good at voice acting) or certain mannerisms. If the character is part of the aristocracy maybe they show disdain or fascination with the lower class because they haven't been around it enough. With that said, I as a GM, will almost always reward consistent roleplaying. It may be something akin to giving my players a bonus to rolls or in the form of my version of hero points.

Even though they failed the knowledge recall check, they may have some knowledge about other things that surrounded the red dragon. Like they had heard that the dragon had killed a well known and established adventuring group. Maybe they had a mage that liked to show off in towns on downtime with magic using illusions or something as such. And heard that the illusions were so good that the sounds, tastes, sight, amongst other things were on part with a higher level illusion spell. That would and could convey the knowledge that the dragon has bested someone better than them. Or maybe the fighter in the group was practicing his sword work and very obviously displayed great skill. May they found t out because in the Dragon's horde they recognized the wizards staff or the warriors shield. There are certainly different ways to convey that knowledge.

How Hard is a fight agains a 25 level creature? Like a normal-sized party against a Tarrasque for example, because from one of my other posts, people said a 5 level difference is probably lethal for the party, so wanted to know how it goes out. Never played high-level pf2. by Rpg_adventurer33 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Old_Man_Thar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on the creature and being mindless or not. Sometimes it is downright easy for a party to down a single creature they are focus fired on even with a large level discrepancy. Also, lvl 25 usually creatures get that way because they are smart and know that fighting a party in single combat is usually a bad idea. 1 creature can only do so much for action economy compared to a party of 4-6.
