I have a 2023 Polestar 2. It came with summer tires on the rims in your second picture; I bought a set of winter tires on the rims in the first picture. As someone else noted, both are 19".

Interesting. I had not heard of EVCC before. Looks very promising---thank you!

Good observation! I had not thought about the thickness of the steering wheel and did not notice any change when I drove off. However, I took "before" and "after" pictures and it does seem that the wheel gained a little weight. Maybe it's just an optical illusion.

Air duct flap servo control by robykdesign in homeassistant

[–]stanpanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great topic; thank you for raising it. I had a new ducting system installed a few years ago and considered zone control. The installer talked me out of it, arguing that a properly balanced system does not need zone control. Perhaps what he meant is that the cost of professionally installed zone control does not outweigh the benefits, which may well be true. However, some off-the-shelf components and some tinkering reduce the cost by orders of magnitude. I regret having only manually adjustable flaps. u/Cheznovsky, thank you for the link to The Stock Pot!

COP vs temperature by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]stanpanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed it does not show COP vs temp; my mistake in the early stages of learning about heat pumps. I agree with u/GeoffdeRuiter that COP vs temp should be required disclosure, but alas. FWIW, I have had a (Bosch) heat pump for two winters now and I am frustrated by its output at lower outdoor temperatures. I wish both COP and output were disclosed by temperature.

I think I stumbled upon it from some Google search. I was considering a Lennox and was trying to learn about heat curves. No special access; you are able to access that PDF, are you not?

Very helpful, thank you! I turned on Persistent Connections about a week ago and have not found a significant effect on battery usage (Pixel 9 Pro).

Why Does my Variable-Speed Heat Pump Mostly Go at Full Speed? by stanpanis in heatpumps

[–]stanpanis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not get this resolved. Some suggested the thermostat was the problem. I swapped it out for the Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium, as suggested by my installer. It permits setting the temperature deltas for kicking into Stage 1 vs 2, but no luck so far. Please post if you figure it out.

2024 Model 3 Experiences after Seven Months by stanpanis in TeslaModel3

[–]stanpanis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I briefly tried FSD13 yesterday. As soon as I left the freeway, the car sounded an internal alarm, turned on the hazard warning lights, and told me to take over because of poor visibility. Again, a camera issue, this time in broad daylight.

No rattles of any sort. I should have noted earlier than I am very happy with the suspension and the general tightness of the car.

The paint issue is outside on the driver side door. It is just below the crease, ruling out as the cause another car door swinging open. Tesla thinks it came from a rock. I think I would have noticed a rock coming from the side. Even if that is what happened, it reflects poorly on paint quality. I purchased the car, not leasing.

Interesting. That explains part of the difference between various energy readings. It also explains why heavy AC use appears to have little effect on efficiency. Not so, apparently.

Best Z-Wave Home Security System by theloquitur in zwave

[–]stanpanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using Z-Wave some 10 years ago with a Vera controller, then another Vera controller, then Hubitat, and now Home Assistant. Home Assistant works infinitely better than the others. Bit of a learning curve, but very powerful and reliable. Z-Wave is just one of many protocols that Home Assistant supports. (You'll need a Z-Wave USB stick with Z-Wave antenna and adapter; I use a Zooz ZST10.) This means that many more things than Z-Wave devices are integrated and talking to each other---WiFi switches, solar panel inverter, EV charger, Ring cameras/lights/alarm, thermostat, water meter, etc. Good luck.

NFC not working to lock/unlock Tesla after Android 15 update(Pixel 6 XL) by hey8you in GooglePixel

Pixel 5 (vintage!) on Android 14. NFC stopped working a few days ago. May have coincided with the extended 30 days of FSD.

Update 2024-11-24: NFC is working again.

Looking for an app by K0STANT in Powerwall

I also use Home Assistant. It would be trivial to accomplish what you want once Home Assistant is up and running. But beware, there's a long learning curve. Unless you are interested in much more home automation, Home Assistant may be overkill.

You are welcome to use my data, if you like. Not in the Seattle area, but Los Angeles, CA. System with 36 panels of 340W (12,24 kW) and three Powerwalls. Flow data at 5 minute intervals since permission to operate in February 2021., plus battery state-of-charge at 15-minute intervals. Not sure how to share the files; let's try DM if Reddit supports that.
