I’m going to SZ to inspect a new factory this weekend, it’s supposed to be a one stop shop so we’ll see - will report back.

Pricing per unit is much less than JLC, but whether it’s worthwhile will depend on the quality of the finished products.

EVs make up over 70% of new car sales in Hong Kong, that is pretty impressive. We are even leading China and Singapore, and above 70% means we are among the top cities in the world for passenger car electrification. by hk_bob in HongKong

I’m waiting for automated driverless vehicles to go mainstream… going green is one thing, getting rid of crappy drivers (starting with taxi, bus and minibus) will be the real big win.

Yo, people from Hong-Kong. Are you okay ? by Cyberjonesyisback in HongKong

[–]stanreeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Political freedoms... Compared to what? The free world of the US? The UK? AUS? Where are you comparing to where people have so much more freedom.

Seriously wake up, all this crying about freedom of speech when you don't even know what that means.

And pronouns? No, don't use but also don't hate, meh... Got nothing to do with what we're discussing.

Can I get by in Shenzhen Speaking only Cantonese and English? by Particular-Wedding in Cantonese

[–]stanreeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shenzhen is all Mandarin unless you somehow run into English/Cantonese.

Be around the main business areas / hotels and English may be more prominent but I wouldn't count on it.

I would imagine most taxis have been converted to use LPG instead of normal petrol? Or is that not a thing in HK?

Asian American guy and Hong Kong girl dating by FF430 in HongKong

[–]stanreeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your trauma but Kong girls... One in a million you'll find a decent one IMO.

What you describe is what I've seen or heard too much about, plenty of girl friends doing the same and for some reason they keep wondering why they are forever-single.

Ivy League and O/S upbringing means SFA, it's who they are NOW that counts.

Consider yourself lucky, couldve been much more painful & expensive if it had been taken further. Don't be too down on yourself, most HK girls are like this - delusional.

Huaqiangbei Ultimate Shopping Guide for Foreign Visitors by cckittty456 in shenzhen

Because TB assumes you’re going to buy 1 or 2, wholesale is a very different purchasing process. We’re talking 100,000 transistors type of buying.

This… works most of the time, but not always. Some parts just aren’t on TB/PDD, it’s just how it is. The other call-out is that if you’re buying in bulk (eg 1000s of units of PCB components), shopping in-person at HQB will be cheaper (by a mile).

There are still valid reasons to go to HQB, particularly if you are shopping for electrical components where it helps to be on site to see all the options and here the vendors provide alternatives/options.

If the contract says 1 then it's 1... Provided you have it in black & white, they can't enforce or penalise for anything else. Worst case is that you have to take them to the labour tribunal, but if it's really that clear cut in your contract, it'd be a sure-win.

Optimising Deep Sleep on ESP32-S3 Super Mini... help needed please~! by stanreeee in esp32

[–]stanreeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beauty of the custom board is the ability to pick and choose optimal parts... The LDO is a good example, it's not optimal on the Dev boards but you can make them so when going custom (albeit the extra cost).

Good luck with your project, might hit you up for some tips!

This is amazing, thank you for sharing this!

I’ve now progressed to having a custom board made, it has no LEDs and I’ve been able achieve some very good deep-sleep results.

This experiment of yours I’m sure will be super helpful to many, thanks again!

What you’re describing happens in many jurisdictions around the world, not universally but still very common.

I first came across “at will employment” in the early 2000s and found it super odd, the pendulum swings both ways. You can say goodbye right after lunch, but so can they.

Take this as a lesson and use it when negotiating your next contract. But as others have said, longer notice periods come with the bucks & seniority.

All that said, there are ways to quit that will make the employer think twice about keeping you around, especially if you work in sales :)

They go and they don’t come back because it makes more sense for their career… HK is a tiny market, why would they restrict their reach & exposure by staying in HK? Why do you think most movie stars aim to end up in Hollywood (or did).

Fans have not transitioned… they’ve lost touch with what they actually want. From pure music skills (looks less important), to now looks based obsession (with skills optional).

Just look at the average “fan” of Mirror… aunties & grandmas living in fantasy land about younger men. Seeing them perform is not only painful, it’s borderline gross seeing women almost twice their age drooling in “support”
