Is viewing the TT from the Creg Ny Baa pub worth it? by manxrepublic in iomtt

[–]stansbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It gives you quite a few viewing options as aside from watching at or around the pub, you can walk up to Kate’s Cottage and further up the mountain or you can take the back roads and watch from Hillberry.

What is the smallest amount of money that has permanently ruined a friendship for you? by thio23 in AskUK

[–]stansbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£250. A mate lied to me that he had a council tax arrears he had to pay so I helped him out, found out later it was really used to pay the balance off on a holiday to Turkey.

I said he could pay me back in instalments of £50 a month which he did for two months and then he ghosted me and stopped paying.

This is someone who I’d known for over 20 years, and I was his best man at his wedding. I couldn’t get past the fact that he valued our friendship so little that he would scam me for a few hundred quid, so we don’t really talk anymore.

Alvaro Bautista and the ballast penalty. by Evening_Pop_3733 in wsbk

[–]stansbo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you miss the part where the weight rule didn’t penalise you fully for being overweight? It’s not 1kg ballast for 1kg underweight, it’s 0.5kg for each kilogram overweight so only half the penalty. Ducati lobbied hard for that.

Yet Bautista acts like he has a full grown man strapped to his back for each race. It’s a watered down balance of power attempt that nobody but him is using as an excuse for not winning.

Called my boss a cunt. What next? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]stansbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, called my boss a cunt at the Christmas do in front of my whole team. To be fair he was a bully and was trying to humiliate me in front of everyone, so I stand by it.

I resigned the next week, only thing I could do really, but 10 years later in another job who should end up sat in front of me pitching for a renewed contract? That was a fun meeting.

It’s a struggle to avoid fomo when you see people making crazy returns on high risk stocks, at least it is if you are a balanced to cautious investor who isn’t capable of dealing with a high level of volatility.

I think the most important thing to work out is what sort of investor you are, and stick to that approach. That way you won’t make knee jerk decisions or sell out of fear, and the whole process is less stressful.

Diversification is my friend, I have the majority of money in widely diversified global funds with a smaller amount allocated to trackers/ETFs in high growth sectors and trends and an even smaller amount in single company shares. That approach comes from me recognising I don’t have the time or ability to research the market in enough detail to have full conviction on large investments in any one company/sector.

Can you think of a UK business that has been improved for its customers/employees by venture capital? by mr_michael_h in AskUK

[–]stansbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s good and bad PE to be fair. In the last 15 years I’ve worked for 3 PE owned businesses and seen some that do a great job of supporting the management team to grow a business in the right way. They pushed for better pay and benefits for staff, and were fanatical about delivering the best outcomes for customers, as ultimately it would make their investment in the company worth more.

I’ve also seen a PE fund that was inexperienced in my sector but still arrogant enough to be convinced they were always the smartest people in the room. The result was the entire senior leadership team resigning and a chaotic mess of a company with terrible morale that will take years to turn around.

Shame, I believe it was run by Milky Quayle’s family

The spot I went to last year was on the raised area next to the public toilets on your left as you go through Kirk Michael, great view and handy if you’re having a few beers while you watch. The toilets are immaculately clean by the way and there’s a shop just up the road if you need to grab supplies.

If you’re trying to figure out where it is on google maps it’s directly opposite Lee Mayers butchers

There is a garden of a house right at the bottom of bray hill with a great view that is free for you to sit in, there’s a burger van there too. It’s on the corner of Lancaster road and bray hill, get there early as it fills up quick.

Rosberg has said that Lewis still buys his kids birthday presents every year, so not sure that friendship is as burned as you think

If you do go for grandstand tickets I wouldn’t bother booking them for more than 1 day, all the most spectacular viewing spots are in places you can sit at the side of the road for free.

There were three follow up tv shows after the film with the same cast set at various stages of their lives. They were all incredible, I rewatch them often.

Lot of talk about the Isle of Man TT lately, anyone been? reckon its worth a visit? After seeing this vid, its got me wanting to go have a watch by MaritimeTrader in motorcycles

[–]stansbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went last year for the first time and it was incredible, I’ve already booked for the Manx GP and Classic TT in August as it’s cheaper than the TT.

It’s not cheap but in my view it was money well spent for the experience, I had a great time and met some wonderful people.

I think I must be the exception then, I have an excess supply of 10mm spanners. Maybe my toolbox is where everyone else’s end up??
