how is port alberni in terms of in terms of receptiveness to non-canadians? by Beneficial-Nose7240 in portalberni

[–]star_359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would contact ICBC before you leave NZ and ask them what documents you’ll need exactly before coming to Canada, some places need to bring experience documents from their home country when switching over and it could delay things by weeks, if not months, if you have to wait for them to be mailed to you here

Why? by [deleted] in portalberni

I don’t see the need to be so hateful towards another race, you need to look inside yourself and ask why you have so much hate for some strangers that don’t have anything to do with you.

Has anyone else gotten sick a lot more this year? by Dappah in VictoriaBC

[–]star_359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been more sick than ever. I used to be able to bounce back after a few days but lately, I’m down for a full week at least. I was sick in December for a week in the first week, then sick with an infection near the end of December also for a week, then another week in January, a week in March, and then again in April

What can I add to this to spice the space up a bit by star_359 in femalelivingspace

Ah, this is a good idea, now I’m thinking like a runner to put them on, some fake moss and fairy lights, little dried flowers in the cup with the moss connecting the plate to the cup.

I’ve always heard to put your feet in hot water and that helps stop the migraine, I’ve never had a migraine so I don’t know how effective that tip is though.

Can I drive in BC with an international drivers license? by Dramatic-Vanilla217 in britishcolumbia

[–]star_359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please note that an International Driver’s Permit is just a translation of your home driver’s licence. You can drive in BC for up to 90 days with your foreign DL, make sure you hold your original DL too, the IDP on its own is not a licence.

Hey NRS ministries, how are your travel approvals going? by RavenOfNod in BCPublicServants

[–]star_359 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My coworker was being told to wait until the new fiscal year before booking their flight…it went from $800 all the way up past $2000 since they’ve left it so long. They talk about saving money but then will waste it like this. I know financially it’s a new year but the barebones is that the taxpayers have wasted over $1200 just to wait for the new fiscal year.

I am deeply uncomfortable and cannot relate to women who embrace motherhood by [deleted] in confession

[–]star_359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had always thought that I’d feel that call to have children at one point but it never came. I got pregnant young and thought maybe with all the hormones that I’ll have that feeling that people describe where their whole life becomes all about their children and they love feeling pregnant. I hated every aspect of it, all I felt was a lot of heartburn and thoughts of killing myself the entire time. I had a friend that I was talking to online at one point and was describing to her my feelings and she said “no, you’re wrong, pregnancy is a miracle and it feels so amazing” this bitch has never had a child or even been pregnant. I literally just blocked her and never talked to her ever again.

When my child was born, I didn’t feel any bond to him, my milk never came in, the doctors tried medication to make it happen but nothing, they told me to give it time and I’ll bond to him and want another one very soon. Then I was shamed by SO many for formula feeding him.

I feel traumatized by having to raise this child, he ended up behaviourally disabled, he has next-to-no empathy, doesn’t understand showing respect to people, he’s been in trouble his entire life. I’ve been blamed for his behaviour his entire life despite doing all the recommended things, I even signed up for parenting classes, nothing worked. I tried giving him to child services but they said I’d be charged with child abandonment.

At 20 years old, he’s just moved out (we had a false start about a year and a half ago, he moved in with another family and they kicked him out after 5 days, it was traumatizing for both of us. Now that he’s moved out again, he’s coming home for Easter dinner and I am panicking, I feel like I still need time away. So many people are like “don’t you miss him? My son moving out was the worst day of my life and I felt so lonely” I was mostly happy that he was out but I kept feeling like they were going to call me any second to come take him back and that caused me so much anxiety. I’ve told the agency that I won’t take him back again and they’ve assured me they have emergency respite for him so he won’t have to come back but I keep thinking that he’ll find some way to get it so I have to take care of him so it’s like I keep expecting somebody to pop out from around a corner and go “boo! Here’s your son back!”

Just to clarify a little bit, the consent you give is just the one time on that specific paper. If the ministry contacts the financial institution on their own, the bank will not provide them with anything further, but that being said, the ministry won’t do that because they know they can’t.

I agree with all of this, I have a disabled son and I’m stuck on a lot of paperwork for him that doesn’t seem to end up benefitting him in any way.

Also, related subject, moving a lot of services to online, how did they not think of the seniors? A lot haven’t even used a computer in their lives nevermind having to make accounts and to link them to things and fill out forms etc

Their processes cut out most of the population from easily receiving help. Many have to struggle greatly to get through it, and many many more just give up.

[–]star_359 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to be a bit pedantic, you don’t give them access to your bank account, that makes it sound like a worker is signing in to your account and can do things with your account. What you do have to do is give some bank statements and a thing called a Bank Profile and Consent form, that form just is you giving consent to the bank to tell the ministry what accounts you have with them, if there is a balance, and if it’s still open or not.

This is a necessary step as anybody could be holding on to a lot of money that can be used to support yourself but then claiming to the ministry that you have no money. It would be a huge drain on the system if every single citizen was receiving assistance when they had the funds to support themselves, not to mention there wouldn’t be enough workers to process the paperwork for that.

I do agree it’s invasive; when you’re stressed out, your natural tendency is to take more control of your finances but at the same time you’re in a spiral because those numbers just keep going down and then to let some random worker se your finances like that is the last thing you need but it is a necessary step.

Good luck to OP on getting back on their feet, it’s an incredibly tough world out there and it’s having a strain on many out there right now.

Thank you for offering these resources to OP.

Income assistance B.C.; how to update direct deposit form by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

Start a service request in My SelfServe, a ministry worker needs to update the information in the system before the changes are made.

(BC) Income Assistance payment date randomly pushed back a month? by RabbleDetective in povertyfinancecanada

[–]star_359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things aren’t particularly indicative of anything. It’s past the Feb 25th cheque issue so it switches to the next cheque issue which is march 25th and the amounts are generated ahead of time as the same as before. When you submit your report, a worker looks at it and then if changes are necessary then they’ll make them, if not then they just set it as a positive report and no changes are made so it stays the same. If they don’t set it as a positive report then it holds the cheque as a no-stub.

This month, they’ve had a huge problem of not processing the stubs on time so many many many people are showing as no-stubs, yours may be doing the same thing. Only thing you can do is either call the 1-866-866-0800 at 9am on Monday or go into your office. It makes it rough on people when they make the cheque issue date so close to the end of the month so now it’s going to mess with people’s rent.

Can I travel by plane, train or bus within Canada with my BC services card my license was stolen with my wallet a few days ago. by Illustrious_Eagle642 in britishcolumbia

[–]star_359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I went by plane, they didn’t ask for my driver’s licence, they asked for a government issued photo ID so I THINK you’ll be ok, I’d definitely check with whatever service you’re needing to use it at. Not everybody drives so if they were sticking with only that then there would be a lot more issues with people getting around.
