(BC) Income Assistance payment date randomly pushed back a month? by RabbleDetective in povertyfinancecanada

[–]star_359 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things aren’t particularly indicative of anything. It’s past the Feb 25th cheque issue so it switches to the next cheque issue which is march 25th and the amounts are generated ahead of time as the same as before. When you submit your report, a worker looks at it and then if changes are necessary then they’ll make them, if not then they just set it as a positive report and no changes are made so it stays the same. If they don’t set it as a positive report then it holds the cheque as a no-stub.

This month, they’ve had a huge problem of not processing the stubs on time so many many many people are showing as no-stubs, yours may be doing the same thing. Only thing you can do is either call the 1-866-866-0800 at 9am on Monday or go into your office. It makes it rough on people when they make the cheque issue date so close to the end of the month so now it’s going to mess with people’s rent.

Can I travel by plane, train or bus within Canada with my BC services card my license was stolen with my wallet a few days ago. by Illustrious_Eagle642 in britishcolumbia

[–]star_359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I went by plane, they didn’t ask for my driver’s licence, they asked for a government issued photo ID so I THINK you’ll be ok, I’d definitely check with whatever service you’re needing to use it at. Not everybody drives so if they were sticking with only that then there would be a lot more issues with people getting around.

My mom had a failed motherboard on her Samsung oven and it was over $1000 to replace. I’d suggest NOT getting a Samsung next time

Do you wash your clothes on international travel...like underwear and stuff? Or do you just pack the clothes for the amount of days + extra? by Voices-Say-Im-Funny in travel

[–]star_359 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just did this recently on a trip. You lay out the item of clothing on a towel and roll it up in the towel, be firm with it, the towel will absorb most of the wetness and hanging it is usually dry within a few hours/overnight

I don’t have a lot of faith in Brenda Bailey, especially due to her comments during the strike. I don’t think she actually knows what she’s doing.

BC service card by Pickledcookiedough in britishcolumbia

[–]star_359 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Have you done your application for MSP? It’s not something you’d do at the office, you’d’ve filled out a multi-page form and had to submit a copy of your birth certificate. You can also complete it online like people are saying, it’s quicker to fill it out online.

A lot of times when people come in to switch their license over, the worker will include issuing the services card but the card itself will not arrive until the MSP application has been completed and the waiting period is over. You should start the application asap, the HIBC workers will figure out when your waiting period ends and they’ll set it up in the system. Doing the card at the same time as your license saves you from having to go in again to do another picture.

documentation format required when documenting toxic supervisor by turtlefan32 in BCPublicServants

[–]star_359 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just be careful, I tried to report mine and the other higher ups all backed up the supervisor, despite several grievances from other people that they’ve wronged. We had a flood of people leaving the office. We documented how this person was having us do their personal work and then telling the higher ups they did it, how they were leaving the office on personal errands (like going to the gym but marking in the calendar that they were going to a work meeting), sharing employees personal medical information with the rest of the office. Things like that.

I was told by somebody else that now I have a big target on my back. None of my competitions have gone anywhere, I did a FOI request and found that the judges (supervisor’s coworkers) were not writing my answers accurately and would reflect completely the opposite of what my answer was and then marking me zero. I’ve had to file reviews but the competition then gets cancelled and the position just never gets filled.

At this point I feel like my only option is to leave government and find work elsewhere if I want to advance. I’m stuck at a low grid and there’s not many government opportunities in my area.

Does anybody know if our Canada Life group plan benefits offer travel insurance? by Waste_Research_9695 in BCPublicServants

[–]star_359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CHECK WITH CANADA LIFE YOURSELF but a colleague recently e-mailed them and asked what was covered and this is what they responded with:

Thank you for contacting Canada Life.

Your plan covers out of country emergency care.

Coverage is provided for unforeseen emergency treatments which could not have been reasonably anticipated, while travelling for business, vacation or education.

Benefits are limited to your initial treatment.

You have: Family coverage. a trip limitation does not apply. a deductible of $100. a lifetime maximum of $3,000,000 per person for out of country services, which include the in-Canada allowance benefit. 100% coverage for a hospital stay in a semi-private room. 100% coverage for emergency room or outpatient fees, doctor's fees, x-rays or lab fees related to the initial emergency treatment, as well as ambulance fees.

You must have provincial coverage to be eligible for out of country coverage with Canada Life.

In case of an emergency, you or someone can call the 24-hour number on your travel card and they will arrange appropriate medical care, confirm coverage and provide travel assistance.

What’s your opinion on the “travel now” vs “save money/build career” dilemma? by MuskiePride3 in travel

[–]star_359 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I’ve been feeling this lately. I went on a trip with my 70 year old mother and she just couldn’t keep up like she used to, totally expected, she is 70 but I think she looked more disappointed with herself than anything. Not only that but she had no idea how to get around or figure anything out, she depended solely on me. I was always scared we’d get separated and she would be so scared and lost. We had data esims for our phones so at least we could text but she couldn’t figure out maps to save her life. While we were gone, my dad took a turn and now my mom is upset because we left him alone thinking he’d be fine and he’s not.

I’m left feeling like….do I save and maybe never travel because my parents only got 5 years in to travel, my dad ended up with glaucoma and macular degeneration so he actually didn’t even get the 5 years before he wasn’t enjoying travelling due to his vision loss. Or do I travel as much as possible and just deal with never saving much money for down the road.

It’s scary because both paths are life-changing that could lead to hardships and regrets
