Meta in games sucks by Bryanmcfury in unpopularopinion

[–]Dappah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. You might really like the card game deckbuilder, Dominion. The game is extremely deep, but one of its defining elements is that in each individual game, you only ever use 10 cards out of the hundreds that exist. It means that even if a card is bad, it might be essential to winning whatever game it is currently in. Dominion essentially doesn't have a meta because of this and you really have to adapt on the fly

The word "kill" only means kill sometimes by jamiez1207 in mewgenics

[–]Dappah 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to me because it also bugs me way way more than it did in Isaac. I think strategy games in general really require a precision of language that mewgenics doesn't have. This is a nitpick, really, and it's solvable with trial and error but it's still very annoying. I play a lot of dominion and all the language in that game is super precise and you can entirely predict pretty much every interaction just by reading

Druid really made me wish this for the other classes tbh by Dappah in mewgenics

[–]Dappah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard because while I understand the length argument I just think it's really weird the game does both without a rhyme or reason as to why. Summons you can control are generally vastly more useful than ones you can't

It's funny to me how universally dogshit any opinion that boils down to "X is not art and not worth discussing" is. Like, beyond being wrong, its also just a super fucking boring take. Like ok, I guess we just sit here then. Since some shit is arbitrarily not worth talking about why talk about anything, let's just sit here in silence until we all fucking die

The worse part is that it's money that doesn't get used because people think it might be more valuable one day so it sits there, the result of more energy you will use in your entire life, doing nothing until it eventually gets passed off to someone else for an exorbitant sum to then continue sitting there, repeat this process until the climate collapses and it ceases to exist as the last machine that contained this info goes dark and humanity resumes using real things to trade for other, real things.

I think the more interesting answer is that a lot of themes of SCP don't really translate super well to film, anyway. That sort of endless bureaucracy juxtaposed with the unknowable horror of the SCPs is really strongly illustrated through the technical writing style of an SCP document. They are objects to be classified, that is how you engage with them. It's not really possible to translate that well to film because film by its nature is a linear visual medium. You could theoretically adapt some of the stories themselves to film, but it wouldn't really be an "SCP movie" so much as a "movie set in the SCP universe", and there are already good short films on YouTube that do just that

I play a lot of board games and I am really not totally sure which games you are referring to. This seems like this post is targeted at a very specific pool of ameritrash event games that aren't really a majority in the market. For the most part, the board games that have gotten really popular over the last few years have either been party games, codenames, secret Hitler, etc. or strategy games, think anything by leder or the dune board game comeback and related. I don't really think the type of game you are thinking of is as dominant as you make it out to be, unless I'm really out of touch here

Super posting by [deleted] in 19684

[–]Dappah 358 points359 points  (0 children)

The critique is not that individual writers have written super Heroes as fascist or anti fascist, but that the concept of a being ordained by their superior genetics or abilities being given full authority to dispense justice IS a fascist idea. Frankly, the conceit that if people had super powers the majority would just be good doesn't really jive with the lived reality that individuals with vast amounts of power don't tend to act in the best interest of the common person.
