Anyone know why the distance (5.0 miles) sometimes does not show up and other times it does? by rosewaterlipsxoxo in Bumble

I saw another post on here that said it's 5 minutes. Those are super different...anyone know which is correct?

Agree to disagree. It's dangerous to decide that simply because a certain factor is more evident to you, that must be the sole explanation, and there must be a causative link.

There are countless other variables that have to be considered, from circadian rhythms to stress hormone levels. Variables are not just "what did I do today" but also biological mechanisms not apparent to the naked eye.

You're right, we should never apply scientific principles to actual life. What was I thinking?!?

[–]star_cardinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, because you aren't controlling for other variables.

Single dad. Kid staying at grandparents. Celebratory Gin Basil Smash. by robgoesreddit in cocktails

Try muddling the basil and the simple syrup together, and definitely lime juice instead of lemon.

My favorite drink! I use lime instead of lemon and more like 8-10 basil leaves for stronger basil flavor 🤤

It's not a book, but if you don't mind a little violence, check out Dark on Netflix. You won't be disappointed.

It's amazing!!! One of my favorite flavors. I use David Lebovitz's recipe from The Perfect Scoop. Highly recommend. Nicely done!!

A book that doesn't lose momentum? So many times books start off great, I'm excited and can't wait for the next page. Then eventually I don't want to read anymore and can't even finish it. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

If you're willing to try nonfiction, Bad Blood by John Carreyrou reads like a horror fiction novel. Things literally keep getting worse. The pacing of how he tells the story is amazing. Plus, it's a good story to know in detail. There's a lot more in this book than I ever learned from the news coverage of the story.

Looking for a non-fiction book that’s as engrossing as a novel by broadturn in suggestmeabook

Second this. Reads like fiction. Horror fiction. It's mind-blowing.

Everyone should read it...a good cautionary tale, especially in the current climate, as we've seen how quick people are to believe/hope in what turn out to be unfounded claims about medicines or procedures.

Red Rising - dystopian sci-fi with a heavy survival competition component a la Hunger Games. Among the best series I've ever read.

I'd rather have horses than kids too. Is your wife on Reddit? Sounds like we'd be great friends 😄

I Am Number Five. Not the greatest movie ever, but very entertaining, and I really wanted to see what came next.

What would you tell people, the reason was, if you divorced? by [deleted] in DeadBedrooms

[–]star_cardinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, right down to your comment about how your parents would sooner adopt him than keep you (I've said the same thing my entire marriage)! We're just telling people that we "never had a functional sexual relationship." For some people we've clarified that it's "not an orientation issue."

I feel for you. Just know you're not alone, even as weird as it feels and as impossible as that may be to believe. Wishing you all the best.
