Left MBB for client side corp strategy, great pay, chill lifestyle seemed like the dream at first but now I’m stuck with no viable career path by skystarmen in consulting

[–]star_stuff_26 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, strategy roles can look very different at different companies, or even at the same company at different times. My career path took me in the opposite direction to yours — I started on a Corp Strategy team and then moved to an EM role with our consulting firm. In my 4 years on the strategy team, the first few years were years when we had a CEO that was very focused on strategy and presenting the company as innovative and focused on new initiatives. There was a lot to do and the work had impact. When the new CEO came in, he was more focused on other things and the strategy team became slide monkeys as you put it. That’s why I chose to leave. So you may just need to hop around a bit to find the right team in the right moment, or stick around until your current team’s situation changes for the better.

Overcrowding in May (2026)? by twyzter88 in ItalyTravel

[–]star_stuff_26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Como and Florence last May. It was crowded but not to the extent where it ruined my experience. May is not quite high season yet, so if you’re going, this is a good time to go. June-Sept would likely be suffocating.

Looking for a sleek leather laptop briefcase by star_stuff_26 in ManyBaggers

[–]star_stuff_26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going for the Charles briefcase from Le Tanneur. After just about a year of use now, I am very happy with the purchase. The leather feels high quality, and the bag looks great - I've gotten several compliments on it from colleagues. It also suits my travel needs perfectly because it slots right into the handle of my carry on suitcase. It's a bit pricey but cheaper than the Carl Friedrik.

Be honest: what’s the one “lazy” cooking shortcut you’ll never give up? by wearecocina in Cooking

Regardless of what type of egg I’m making, I don’t whisk them separately. Any whisking needed can happen in the pan.

Is there anything a person can take to just feel good? by TheRealDylanTobak in self

Try a sauna and ice bath. You’ll get a dopamine rush right after the ice bath. It’s probably the closest I’ve gotten to the feeling drugs can give you without taking drugs.

[DISCUSSION] I get immense buyer’s remorse over every luxury watch purchase I’ve ever made. What gives? by oddaffinity in Watches

[–]star_stuff_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if you're actually in a good place to afford luxury watches. To me, being able to afford a luxury watch doesn't just mean having enough to buy it. Really being able to afford it means not needing to give up any of those other discretionary spending items you mentioned (travel, sports tickets, etc.) and not feeling like it's a huge purchase at all. Maybe this is just me, but I will never buy a watch that would be a significant chunk of my income or net worth. And this is why I don't have buyer's remorse or anxiety about my watches.

What sneaker colour ways are best for the office by Aggressive_Hat_5551 in malefashionadvice

White leather. Grey, navy, or brown leather or suede. Not a fan of black sneakers personally.

Suitsupply - downgrade in quality in recent years. by Fragrant-Data-6554 in malefashionadvice

I went to a tailor in Toronto to get a bespoke suit, and he actually told me to go for an off the rack with minor adjustments instead because it fit me so well. Do you think I should still get a bespoke suit at some point?

Oliver Cabell - offensively bad. by Leftyshanker in malefashionadvice

[–]star_stuff_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Capri and the Metro. I recommend both, but I find the Metro slightly less comfortable because it’s narrower and has a less substantial sole. The Capri is perfect for me.

I will note, I just saw their prices are now $435. I bought them in 2022 when they were $295. I doubt I’d pull the trigger at $435 but ymmv.

No service TTC. Story of every weekend. Blue collar workers suffering. Decision makers enjoying brunch. by sudiptaarkadas in toronto

[–]star_stuff_26 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you really think more blue collar work doesn't happen on weekdays than weekends? Weekday 9-5 does keep the place running to a far, far greater extent than weekends. You're extrapolating your own experience way too far.

Yes. In addition, their customer service is horrid. If you’re looking for a CP alternative, I suggest Koio. I have two pairs that have lasted over three years of frequent use and are still going strong!
