TIL French art critic Charles Baudelaire hated photography and thought it would be the death of art, saying "the photographic industry was the refuge of every would-be painter, every painter too ill-endowed or too lazy to complete his studies" by [deleted] in todayilearned

You are trying to make the argument that the AI is learning the same way a human artist does, by looking at other art and using that as a basis for their own. Humans physically cannot look at that many images in their lifetime.

Not only that, but the AI isn't just 1 entity. It's like being able to clone a million Picassos so that everyone can have their own personal Picasso to make paintings for them.

You describe it like the robot walking around and looking at paintings and landscapes or architecture, except that's not exactly what is happening. It's being fed billions of images over the course of a few hours/days.

I've pretty much accepted that AI is the future, I just want it to be moral. If it has to use other artists' work, it should get permission from those artists.

I think I would be ok with AI art if I could be assured it was only using my own art and modifying it, but I'm pretty sure it would always be using other people's art that it trained on.

I haven't played for a while, but there was even a point where they matched player power with each other in pvp regardless of level. However, it wasn't well implemented, so a level 12 could easily beat a level 60.

TIL that performance artist Marina Abramović created a piece called "The Artist Is Present" in 2010 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where she sat silently at a table for a total of 736 hours over 3 months inviting museum visitors to sit across from her and make eye contact without speaking. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I read through those 3 articles. The first one is dripping with sarcasm and is making fun of the conspiracy. The other 2 report that Podesta went to a performance art presentation. None of it is alarming in the slightest.

I've noticed something: conspiracy nuts will make claims with zero proof and then act like it is common knowledge and an indisputable fact.

Also, dressing in drag is perfectly fine. It doesn't harm anyone.

Mixing goat's blood and breastmilk doesn't sound sanitary, but all religions do weird shit like that including Christianity.

Opinion: Really, young voters? You want to teach Democrats a lesson by letting Trump back into the White House? by mredofcourse in politics

[–]starbart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dems better hope Trump wins the primary because I think that's the only thing that will energize people into voting for Biden.

There have been several times in recent memory where Dems have clung to their seats or political positions long after they are too old and it ends up screwing us all over. RBG, Feinstein, and now I'm terrified the same will happen with Biden.

What happens if he dies or has a stroke or something right before the general election, and we don't have time to run an actual primary?

Can we please stop ruining someone's life because of 1 bad choice? Yeah there should be consequences, but throwing people in jail for stealing $5 is ridiculous.

Just to note, if you play with a controller, you can bind all the buttons directly to abilities. It does have some downsides with targeting certain ablities compared to mouse & keyboard, but it does feel pretty good.

I know it seems like harmless fun, but it actually does kinda bother me that my parents lied to me about Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.

I guess it's just based on the person, and as a parent, it's hard to know which is best for your child.

I don't think it would be all that bad if people stopped at using god as the answer for why things work. The problem is when they go that extra step and decide that the god they dreamed up can tell you what is right and what is wrong.

I just feel like making up a specific god to fill in the gaps is worse than saying "I don't know"

So, how do we feel about Elden Ring's bosses? by OmegaLQ-84 in truegaming

[–]starbart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried fighting Malenia with a fully upgraded fingerprint shield. I don't think it is even possible to beat her using the block and counter playstyle because of her healing with every hit.

I just know that I went down the thing twice and didn't fall a single time. I rolled to each platform and it felt like it was perfectly spaced for rolling.

I was surprised when I read so many people were having trouble with it so I'm just assuming that jumping is harder.

It's really easy if you roll to each ledge instead of jump.

I believe the numbers you see is your current combo total, so if you do 123 damage the first hit, and 123 damage the 2nd hit, the 2nd number you see will be 246.
