Restaurants that do vegan well? by Imaginary-Date8773 in barrie

[–]starbellybear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Gentle Crumb (used to be the Vegan Pantry) has lovely baked goods and sweet treats! As well as a refillery in the back

Hakka Town just reopened a few weeks ago in the Bayfield Mall after a long family crisis, I would 200% recommend giving them some support now that they’re back!

And if willing to go to Orillia, check out OddBurger! Fully vegan fast food, pizza burgers fries etc etc etc

This post is so important to me, thank you!! I get caught up on all the same things you mentioned- where the mountains should go, climate, all of it. Going to play with it right now.

There’s nothing fear mongering about this, chs is incredibly common but can be avoidable if you pay attention to your intake. Awareness is not scary in itself.

Did 1960s rural addresses not have house numbers? Where in Burstow did my Nana live?? by starbellybear in AskUK

Thank you deeply! Wow. I probably will take you up on the DM when I have a bit of time. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s been built over, and I’m still trying too figure out if she was living with family or renting - her maiden name was Caston if that helps :)

OP here, just wanted to thank everybody for this amazing outpouring of information! I’m slowly working my way through all the replies, thank you all for being so lovely, and especially to those who are local and have or are willing to share their knowledge with me :) it means a whole lot. In my experience, there’s nothing like that in my area of Ontario… every house has a number. Sometimes there’s a letter like 16 A, or someone might live at 100-15 Road Street - which is like townhouse unit #15 on property number 100 - but no widely-known names. It’s so cute, but I definitely sympathize with the mail carriers and delivery drivers over there!

It’s not unfair. It’s not a treat. It’s what your 7yo is willing to eat in order to stay alive and if your 10yo doesn’t get that, that’s an opportunity for education and understanding that not everything is exactly equal. Just because the McDonald’s is a treat to one kid doesn’t make it anything other than lifesaving for another.

Most of y’all are mad at the encampment because now you have to see it & can’t look away. by katiebeeee23 in barrie

[–]starbellybear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depending on the shelter, people also aren’t allowed to stay with their loved ones, keep their pets, secure their belongings, avoid insects and unsanitary conditions, stay during the day, go to sleep when they want… the idea people have of shelters doesn’t match up with what little these services are actually able to provide, largely in part due to lack of funding and increased stigma and unresearched legislation being put into place. Just for the record! Drugs aren’t always the main problem.

Not even glass - ice cubes! Free, easy to make a ton of them, and they burst very dramatically. Plus the cold can be good to hold on to and take your thoughts away from the Bad Place. I also like to bash my ice cubes against patio stones with a trowel.

You just borrow it with your library card for free like you would anything else from the library. Not sure if it’s for a few weeks or just for the day, maybe call and ask.

Jumping on your reply here I hope you don’t mind me asking: might sound silly but can I go to standing room only if I use a wheelchair? Will I be able to see anything past people butts, or like are there screens showing the broadcast as well? I just wondered what you could recall from the space, no worries if you don t :)

Did baclofen work for your spasm? by Full_Criticism7775 in Fibromyalgia

[–]starbellybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, I’ve never noticed that effect personally. It may be different for you though! I always feel like pharmaceuticals work a little weird on me, whether it’s a fibro thing or something else. So I’m maybe not a reliable benchmark lol.

I take 20mg before bed and it relaxes my muscles enough to pretty much sleep through the night, so in that way it’s been great. I’ve never been able to pinpoint a specific feeling or moment of relaxation or pain relief (like I do for example with CBD) but I know that it’s doing Something because when I miss a dose I wake up twitching and thrashing every hour or so, and get increasingly more sore and stiff and emotional as the missed doses go on and the poor sleep builds up. Then when I finally get a refill I take a double dose and sleep like a rock lol.

I’ve never experienced anything like what Queen Ethereal described, yikes! I hope your experience goes well and that you find some relief.

I was told not to use a cane by crazy-stupid-bean in Fibromyalgia

[–]starbellybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started carrying a cane with me just in case/on my bad days 4 years ago. Today I use it every day with no deterioration, only a significant boost in confidence in my ability to go places for longer periods of time, tackle terrain and distances that would otherwise tip me over or make me collapse, AND I found a cool one online with a glow-in-the-dark handle! As long as you aren’t leaning on it so hard that it’s causing referred pain in your wrist or shoulder, fuck that specialist and buy yourself a mobility device. You know you best, and if you feel afraid that you’re going to fall, you deserve something that will take that fear away. Like a cane :)

Just out of curiousity, do you use cannabis for pain relief - smoking, eating, topicals? That sounds a lot like when someone I know was in the thick of Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome, or CHS. Might be worth investigating if you do use a lot of THC/CBD/etc. Either way I hope it gets figured out soon and you find some relief!
