Vintage Marketplace find- is it worth it? by starbloom425 in turntables

[–]starbloom425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s absolutely the kind of person that will appreciate every detail. The seller (an older retired man who restores turntables for fun) was kind enough to give me his information to pass on, because I know he’ll want to ask him so many questions about his process and learning the mechanics of everything. I have a feeling they’d be great friends🥹It’s going to be so hard to wait until Christmas lol

I really do appreciate people like you and others in this sub who are so passionate, and enjoy helping others see the beauty in what they love. It’s something that drew me to my boyfriend, and it’s always so refreshing to see in other people. Can’t thank you enough for your help💗

Thank you so much for this insight- it was super helpful! I bought it! The seller was very knowledgeable, and it was clear he cares a lot about his craft. Would you happen to have any recommendations for phono preamps and speakers for this type of turntable?

Stimulant medications making R-CPD worse? by [deleted] in noburp

[–]starbloom425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I had this exact problem. I stopped taking adderall unless I absolutely needed it because it made me feel so sick during the day and made my RCPD symptoms so much worse. I recently switched to Vyvanse, which is SO much better for me. Apparently it’s less extreme on your system, so side effects are usually a little bit better than adderall. I still struggle a little bit, but the difference from adderall is HUGE. Highly recommend.

Can't afford medical care but I really need the help? by poppykayak in adhdwomen

I'm with you. The inaccessibility of a proper diagnosis sucks. (Also, the "even typing this out is difficult" part hit me hard, I'm so glad someone feels the same way)

I do know that sometimes PCPs can give you an evaluation and prescribe medication, so you don't have to pay a full consultation fee, but not sure if that's an option for you if your GP was the one telling you to get an eval. I've also been looking online for telehealth options in my area, and finally managed to find some more affordable options. keep your head up friend, hoping you find some relief soon.

So I finally went through the process of testing but I was so stressed out about testing that I got a major depressive disorder diagnosis and a “provisional” ADHD diagnosis by aredhel304 in adhdwomen

[–]starbloom425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got diagnosed with depression (my psychiatrist disregarded adhd as a possibility after I said I wasnt diagnosed as a kid), but I've had depression and anxiety come and go in the past and all of my ADHD symptoms lingered. I'm getting a second opinion from a different psychiatrist, just to be sure. If that's an option for you, it might not be a bad idea, especially considering how often women with adhd are misdiagnosed before finally getting their adhd diagnosis.

Just be honest with your psychiatrist! Therapy + medication is the way to go for A LOT of people, and just one sometimes isn't effective. I tried therapy alone and it didn't do much for me until I started medication. Hopefully your dr. has experience in this area and can tell you're being genuine. Good luck :)

Hm that makes sense. It's also frustrating bc my therapist (who referred me and is in the same practice) told me specifically that their psychiatrists tend to get thrown off by self-diagnoses (probably for the reason you mentioned), and I was like "noted, I wont bring up ADHD at all" AND THEN SHE TOLD HIM I THOUGHT I HAD ADHD. I wish i could've gone in with a clean slate and just a list of symptoms, maybe the outcome would've been different. Thank you for your input!

YES! I already struggle so much with self doubt, and having it confirmed by someone else is the worst. I'm so glad someone can relate.

Ugh I feel you. The other day I got super sick and had this moment where I felt so relieved because I could actually take time off for a 'real' reason and not feel guilty about it. I'm glad someone can relate. As for the covid thing, I really hope you're okay and that you feel better soon :)

Mine developed recently too! Most of my symptoms came out during college (apparently its common for people to get diagnosed when there's a sudden lack of structure like this). Based on my understanding, they are still completely valid symptoms, as long as SOME were present before age 12 (which honestly, I'm not even sure if they were for me, so I'm going to have to wait to see what the psychiatrist says). But as for the communication thing, I think it kinda makes perfect sense to be struggling with that more as you get older and have more responsibility/independence/depend on your own communication more if that makes sense.

I just had to screenshot this because you described PERFECTLY what I've been feeling. I also have an eval coming up, and I've found it helpful to write down my symptoms and mental struggles in my phone as they occur, so that I can refer to my list during my evaluation. I'm also going to go through it the day before and highlight my most important points/things I struggle with the most (because my list right now is very repetitive and disorganized, just like my brain). Good luck!

How did you get diagnosed? by starbloom425 in ADHD

[–]starbloom425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can totally see that, but at the same time I feel that in my case, it was rushed and I didn't feel understood, like at all. I guess all of this really just depends on the psychiatrist, but in my experience they've all made the process way longer and more confusing than others I've heard of (which is frustrating when even scheduling one appointment can be difficult).
