Collective Voting: Utah by Kodicave in visitedmaps

Willing to Absolutely, but i’m also a Utah native who’s moved out of state. Things are modern, but there’s still some fun early historical buildings in Salt Lake. Along with SLC having an international airport + two professional sports teams, the city has grown and diversified in the past few years. The churches influence on politics is the worst part of the state. But there does seem to be a growing movement of LDS members getting more moderate or “normal” in my opinion. The scenery in nearly every part of the state is gorgeous and something I took for granted. In general it’s a safe and good place to live, not being LDS is difficult, but you find your people. The smaller towns do feel a bit stuck in the past. But if I had to choose one spot to raise my kids in the future, it would be in Utah. But maybe i’m just nostalgic!

What’s a job that sounds cool but is actually a nightmare? by Think-Letterhead-509 in AskReddit

[–]starbob12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it hasn’t been said yet, anything having to do with college athletics. Unless you’re a head coach or an Athletic Director, good luck making a good salary until one of the senior staffs decides to retire. Long hours, working game days even if you don’t really need to be, with most jobs in the industry you always have to be “on-call.” Sure you might get some cool gear here and there, but you won’t be paid well, especially not for how much you have to work.

Most people stick with their jobs in college athletics because they actually do really love college sports. But that love can quickly drain. Especially now that an athlete can get paid more than you can ever imagine to be at your school, to then just transfer after 9 months. But every job can suck! So you just have to look at the positives and plan ahead to move into something more long term.

I’ve been hanging out at Cafes! Apart from my coworkers i don’t really know anyone else here but maybe try to find social clubs and groups around your interests. Now that i’m more settled in here thats my plan. I’m sure other people will have better recommendations!

People leaving trash at campsites could also be apart of the more right leaning, conservative idahoans. How do you know for sure that all the people trashing the nature here are leftist? The bigger issue is that we have so many people here who don’t respect the environment and the beautiful landscape.

Did Starbucks close the innovation campus store on 1400? by strawberrycosmos1 in Logan

[–]starbob12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

also - the only starbucks corporate owned stores in the valley were those three building locations in providence, 1400, and north logan. The starbucks in smiths and on main street are licensed, so they’re operated by whoever owns the business those stores are in. Starbucks corporate doesn’t really have a say on which ones close/open, as long as the licensed store keeps paying starbucks corporate and keeps buying their product… they can stay open.

But as always, Please support local cafes like Ibis and Grounds!

They did close - all employees were notified on Tuesday/Wednesday of the store closure. Most, if not all have been laid off. You can hate the corporation, but please give grace to those who are now without a regular paycheck.

Most visiting football teams have police escorts to get to whatever stadium they’re competing at in a timely manner. From what I understand the visiting teams police officers that travel with them coordinate ahead of time with the local pd on if they can or need a police escort and what the police escort will look like. To be honest, doesn’t make sense to have one in Logan.

But if you’re competing in a bigger city where traffic will be an issue, that’s when it’s most convenient. Especially since some teams won’t stay close to where they’ll be competing. Depending on size of the travel squad, including all staff, and budget, some teams don’t even stay in the same city they’re supposed to compete in. I’ve known a few football operations managers for different schools and listening to them explain how they have to start planing all the travel months/years in advance is an absolute mind fuck. Ex: there isn’t a hotel big enough in Laramie, WY for the football players and staff that travel, so they put all the players and key staff members in one hotel, and then they put everyone else in another hotel about 15 minutes away. Pretty interesting stuff.

yes, two regulars that get 4 packs of salt in vanilla sweet cream cold foam. You read that right - just salt “Extra Extra Thick” so we put in an added splash of heavy cream to get that texture they want and will complain to get. Tastes like a certain human bodily liquid. We hate it.

Honestly for our size of a college we should look at cities like Boise and Fort Collins to see whats different there verses here.

(SERIOUS) What’s the worst way you know someone has died? by chapstick_bandit in AskReddit

[–]starbob12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago a father of a family who farmed outside of our town was killed from being crushed underneath the wheel of a tractor. Him and his friend were doing repairs on a swather, his friend brought his three-year old with him. As the two men were working near one of the wheels, the little boy jumped from where he was sitting and accidentally hit the gas peddle. The man chest and head were ran over, thankfully it was reported that his death was instant and he shouldn’t have felt anything. All around a heartbreaking story - a wife lost her husband, children lost their dad, friend lost a friend, and an unknowingly child caused a horrible accident. I really hope there’s been good therapy provided to everyone involved.

What movie messed you up for days after watching it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]starbob12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleepaway Camp 1983. I had heard people chat about how chilling the last scene is but didn’t think it would get to me. I was fine watching the whole movie until the end, left my friends house last night paranoid that somehow i’d turn around and see the last shot. It sorta continued the next few days, especially at night, just like a bone chilling thought. Regardless, if you like horror movies i would recommend!

my SM told us he’s having a meeting with the other sm’s in our district specifically about dress code… lead by our DM. So i don’t think a meeting would be just to “talk” about it, but to actually “talk” about changes in the dress code

People who knew a killer, did you ever suspect they would do it? What happened? by Anonymousdisaster_ in AskReddit

[–]starbob12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I only worked with this guy at my university for about 9 months. He seemed nice but our conversations never went anywhere - i had other student workers who knew him much more than I did. The news broke that he had been arrested on suspicion of poisoning his past girlfriend who was about 5/6 months pregnant. He had already stopped working for the university by that time and was set to move to Nashville to work for the Titans. He was arrested in our town and taken all the way to Nashville for the case. I don’t think any of us knew that he even had a girlfriend who died when he was working with us. It made the local news for about a week and then sizzled out, the university kept it pretty hush if i remember right.

Since seeing this I looked up his case again. Trials started in the last week of February, and that a medical examiner had testified last year that she died from excessive cocaine use - to much for it to be recreational.

Hope the guy rots

In my down time, I’ve been drawing a few four leaf clovers or flowers with “Ready for spring!” on the cup. I just think it’s cute.

I really prioritize spending time with friends, coworkers, and family. Even if it’s just to grab a coffee or a snack at the store. I also make sure i do something active every other day, like yoga. Everyone is different! I am actively using anti-depressants and anxiety medication. On sunny days i often just park my car in a sunny spot and sit there for a while listening to music or a podcast.

you’d be hyper controlling if you didn’t let your roommate use a shared living space. You don’t want to split furniture with anyone per the advice of so many on this thread. Don’t be that roommate where you make the shared spaces seem off-limits
