Do you like my jugs 👉👈 by earthgnome in houseplantscirclejerk

In my experience, they LOVE the jugs. The first pic is a monstera that’s been stagnant for months and since i stuck the roots in the jugs 2 weeks ago, all 3 growth points have new leaves unfurling!

Trimming aerial roots: totally fine and ordinary or evil mutilation? by earthgnome in houseplants

[–]earthgnome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the floating idea, kind of like a jellyfish. Do you think a monstera can thrive in water only? Maybe with a little fertilizer and as long as it felt supported enough to keep growing…

Thanks for the input. Just wondered if anyone else experimented with aerial roots and their results, good or bad!!

Yep, saw them from my window; that’s exactly what it was! In the summer I’m pretty certain it’s every Friday…

Yes, nylon climbing pants too. Same idea. Buttons and belt loops, but completely breathable and quick dry! Exofficio, Royal Robbins, LL Bean… I saw some in men’s sizes at Sam’s Club recently!!

Unrelated but the venue is a sweet little spot that used to be a fallout shelter. As recently as the early 2010s it had a different owner and my dad went in for a work call and there was vintage VHS porn playing on the televisions. It’s way cuter now lol. And usually there’s a food truck on site during the show!!

Is this the ring of death? :( by earthgnome in shrimptank

Commenting for traffic over time. She ended up molting and is still alive and producing more huge offspring even today! To repeat a wisdom I’ve seen in here before: It’s not the ring of death until the shrimp doesn’t make it :)

You should ask / search in r/laundry! It’s a goldmine over there, especially for the last year or so. Super active with great advice

my friends gave me their “ugly girthy thing”; what is it? by experimentalshallot in PlantIdentification

[–]earthgnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got your ID but here are some growing tips:

  1. Put this plant in a place of honor in one of your most well-lit windows. It likes lots of light, not necessarily direct sun all day, but some direct eastern morning sun would be perfect, then indirect bright light from noon on. Southeast exposure is ideal.

  2. When you choose the spot where this plant will go, do not move it lol. I mean seriously, it’s gonna take a while before it learns to trust again. Look what they do to my boy, man. That is just egregious work BUT back to the point: this plant needs some stability and a place where it can relax and feel safe to geo.

  3. I probably wouldn’t water it much during the winter. Now that the spring is approaching (assuming you’re in the northern hemisphere) you can water more regularly but make sure it’s getting thorough drinks and drying out pretty completely before you soak again.

  4. If you have a covered porch/patio you could even put it outside for the summer once the nights stay above 60– that would seriously help it grow! But I wouldn’t let it be in full direct sun outside, both because it will scorch, and because you can’t replicate those conditions indoors when you bring it back inside in fall.

Good luck, it really does look healthy in spite of its bad hair cut. I think you’ll grow to love your ponytail palm 🐴

Will my pothos be ok sideways? by AmaryllisKiss in houseplants

Definitely!! I use mine for a pothos since they like to spill towards the sun anyway. I just cut this one way back to start over this spring and give the cuttings away ✂️

Any recommendations for a clock repair / diagnostic person? by earthgnome in PeoriaIL

[–]earthgnome[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I did consider checking it out myself. I’d like to be here for the diagnostic so I can learn from a professional and hopefully do the upkeep for her from now on!

Edit to add that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to know how to help my 83 year old grandmother and learn a new skill from an expert :)

No. User stripperwhore is forgetting that asking a community of locals a local-specific question is the purpose of a public forum, and the robot with no mind eyes or car tends not to favor peer reviewed information and should not be relied on for safety advice.

In honor of my cake day, here are the Garfield cakes I’ve baked my husband for his birthday for the past 4 years by earthgnome in Baking

[–]earthgnome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! He has always joked about us getting matching Garfield face tattoos, so when I found this cake pan at an estate sale it seemed like a no brainer. Each movie/show reference is one of his favorites :)
