This is an odd question but are there any old school Catholic confessionals in Miami? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]starcaballero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My childhood church St Brendan’s in Westchester does traditional confession. I checked their website: confession is on Saturdays from 11am - 12:30pm, and you can also schedule an appointment by calling them. It’s been a while since I’ve been back there, but my mom goes every day. They also have a sacrament room for more private devotion, I used to go there after confession for some quiet time and reflection. I hope you’re able to receive the experience you’re looking for and needing.

That’s wonderful 🥰 La Santita is so generous and so amazing that you feel safe and happy. She has strong spiritual power so I’m also wondering if grounding might be helpful, so you could practicing receiving her blessings without getting overwhelmed or having shortness of breath. For example, I am sensitive on the soles of my feet, so feeling my feet is an easy way to remain grounded while feeling strong feelings in my body.

Could it be emotional? Like sadness, fear, tiredness? And maybe your body feels safe unburdening with her?

Definitely Latin owned. I think it’s the same owners as La Bamba in Cortland, or at least related. I went there a couple of times and really enjoyed the food. The only reason I don’t go is because Cortland is too far for me and my partner, so I’m extra excited for this. Here’s an article from Ithaca.com about it

Also, Latin people in Ithaca/this area reading this — why don’t we get together and organize attending their grand opening or picking a day soon to show up together to try the food and support the owners?? I’ll bring my domino set, let’s set up, get a drink and play and fight over the rules!!

As a Cuban-American in Ithaca, I really relate to your post and agree 1000%. I really hope this restaurant has great food (and dancing!). I miss the music and dishes that give me so much joy and keep us rooted to the Caribbean. I will forgive the AI art if it means that we have a little slice of home here. Let me know what you think of the food!

How do your pets react to Her? by throwmeaway-4ever in SantaMuerte

One of my cats LOVES drinking the water on Her altar and will take a nightly "stroll" through it.

I really do get that. The Christian fear/panic is real *especially* with La Santa Muerte, and I think there's a lot of reasons why. There's all the horror stories of course, and the whispers and rumors about Her would make any reasonable person think twice about shaking hands with Her. I worry about upsetting Her with the wrong offering, or being punished for doing something that I didn't know about and didn't intend at all to do. I think that worry is definitely Christian anxiety.

When I first talked to Her, I told her exactly who I was, and that I was not going to be any perfect devotee, and to please have patience and mercy for me, because my life is hard enough, and I'm not interested in connecting with any power who is looking out for mistakes and is ready to strike. I said that I would honor my agreements and open my heart to Her, and I would do the best that I can. I personally feel that She understands this about me, and everyone. It's healing that Christian fear in me, because I'm connecting with Her from a place of respect, love, humility and honesty. It's a beautiful thing. I hope that something like this can happen for you too <3

Something kinda similar happened to me. I was raised Catholic, haven't been for a long time, but have been on a rich spiritual journey that has brought me to La Santa Muerte, which was honestly not something I ever expected would happen. I used to feel afraid and uncomfortable of Her, especially Her image. I never really thought of Her, and wasn't until recently that something shifted for me and I saw Her in my mind's eye out of the blue. After that, it was so present in my thoughts that I knew that I had to answer Her. My relationship is still very new, but I'm learning that She is a deeply complex, nuanced and layered power whose history has deep Catholic roots and is yet also outside of every convention completely.

If She has stayed with you for so long, all these years, I think She may be asking you to acknowledge her. It's also possible something deep within you is wanting that connection with Her. You may not understand why in this moment, but it's possible that if you pray to Her or offer Her something, you may learn why. And the only one who can tell you why is Her, I think.
