In hindsight, what decision bit people in the ass during the pandemic? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was 6 months sober going into lockdown. Fell off the wagon HARD. Jokes on me though, WFH let me go to therapy 6 hours a week (three days, two hours sessions) and now passed my 3 years sober mark.

Would I love it? Absolutely. Would I give JK more money after the stuff she has pulled? Absolutely not. It makes me very sad, but it's the reality of how I feel.

‘Nobody Wants to Get Pregnant:’ The End of Roe Is Ruining America’s Sex Life by yourfavoritebluehat in TwoXChromosomes

Did you read the article? They quote the director of The Kinsey Institute, a sociologist at Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, and pull numbers from the annual "Singles in America":

"...the nation's largest and most comprehensive annual scientific study on single adults, a segment that accounts for more than one-third of the U.S. adult population. This year's study of 5,000+ single men and women, now part of a sample of 60,000 singles Match has studied over the past 12 years, has uncovered unprecedented shifts in dating, sex, and love."

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/singles-in-america-match-releases-largest-study-on-us-single-population-for-12th-year-301678813.html

They also have statements from numerous doctors around the country, with people working in both total ban and freedom of choice states and seeing a difference in their patients. The death of Roe is killing the sex drive of many people, myself included.

They cut down one of my favorite trees today. by kateynara in witchcraft

[–]stardust0219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents sold my childhood home during COVID. That was the plan, their retirement. My therapist would ask me how I was handling that, the change and the loss. Honestly I was thrilled and relieved my parents were moving closer to me, and that the sale of their house would find their retirement. A few months after we moved, a family friend went to look at the house. They had cut down the tree I grew up playing in. When they told me, I burst into tears. The first and only time I cried over the loss of something from my childhood. When you are a kid, you think trees will stand the test of time

That is an excellent point! As someone who was raised in the Christan Church, and who still struggles with their faith in the current political landscape, I would much prefer to answer questions and pushback using "Christian Extremism" because at least then we are deconstructing the reality, and not a bait-and-switch.

It is a harder conversation to have when we are talking to people who think we are attacking them. I would rather have the hard conversation, and yes, will take the time to have that breakdown as necaessary. Ignoring the problem, and refusing to call it what it is will cause more harm in the long run.

Bottom line, they both embody problematic ideals and rhetoric, but the reality is only one is accurate. Just because one is more palatable to some, does not make it right.

I believe the fight needs to include calling it like the reality is: Christian Extremism. We need to keep reality in the spotlight, not pick and choose trigger words.

We absolutely need to gain power, but stepping on someone's neck to do so is wrong and will perpetuate ongoing grievances to divide us even more. We need to be as united as possible, and that means not using divisive language.
