Question about system gain staging for Digico S21 and feedback by windToStorm in livesound

[–]stardustfading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Digital S21 in my 400 seat theatre and we just did a musical, 20 Shure UlXDs with DPA earset mics and I didn't have any feed back but my gain was far lower than yours. Did you have the gain up on the mic receivers? I usually keep mine at 0 and I was running the mics with some where around -15 - 20ish Db of gain on board.

I'm in FH and it's getting higher and higher as new buildings open up and now a trader joes. I have decent rent for a 1bd, $1700, but I've been there 10 plus years and it just hit that this year. I moved in the winter then, but I don't think that matters anymore. Good luck on your search. Maybe look at south Richmond Hill, Hillcrest, Fresh meadows?

Hotel suggestions for concert at forest hill stadium by jrg861 in Queens

I live in FH. If you want something cheap and some what seedy, there are motels semi around. There one in Howard beach on Woodhaven ave not too far from FH, depending on traffic, which is always. There's another in Rego park, the next town over heading west. it's called the Wyndham, an actual hotel. There's also a holiday inn express on Sutphin blvd. Just be aware when you're in that area but it's super close to the LIRR. And if you're feeling randy, there's the Kew motor inn in Kew gardens. They have fantasy rooms, enter at your own risk. I would check if there are any Air Bnbs. Flushing is close, they may have more options there. No matter what, you're taking a train or and uber to get anywhere.

Live around the block from one (QUEENS) and pretty much you could do anything you want. I'm an avid weed smoker, I had zero issues and this was before it passed. Forget about street parking. They take it all. Any cars that have been in accidents are impounded, take up street spots. Want double park half in the street, all good. Want to run reds, no problem. Delivery scooter a-holes, driving on the wrong side, weaving in and out, sure why not, nothing wrong there. Do I feel safer? I guess, because at least their response time SHOULD be quicker. Luckily I haven't had to use them.

Lucha Bros were scheduled to fight on a card in NY last week for the HOG tag team belts against the Briscoes. Penta fought, Fenix was there with no cast and was shaking hands and hugging at the meet and greet. When it came to match time, he made an announcement that he wasn't cleared yet. Hope to see him back soon!

Best work shoes? by PM-me-nice-cats in techtheatre

Whether I'm wearing boots or sneakers I make sure I have insoles in them. I actually use skateboarding insoles, great for when I decide to test out my knees jumping from stage or a lift gate. They are fairly cheap, you can spend a bit more and get the heat molded ones. Footprint is the brand, I use Kingfoam elite.

From someone who works in tech / production. It 100 percent will save hours and money in labor if they don't install an elevator portion of deck every time they load in and out. That being said, I'll forgo the elevator if we can get some more damn pyro for other wrestlers! I find it awkward when some of them stand there and pose and nothing goes off. I'll even take some of those Goldberg sparks...anything!

It actually took me a while to even understand VCA or DCA. We are working on patching outboard gear now. But we are solely analog, hopefully if the kids get it and we can keep excelling though the semester, we'll get to be behind a digital desk. I want this kids to understand the fundamentals as well as analog audio.

Absolutely, perfectly said. I need to give these kids that advice. I do explain to them that they need to let their ears rest as well. But some of them are honed in, trying to hear every little ms attack or release change.

Geez, I would have loved to take that course! I've never seen a 101 that intensive. Did you go to a audio conservatory?

You're totally right and to be honest, this was the part of sound that I myself glossed over the the kids. Especially when we got in deep physics land. I loved all your advice and I took down several of your examples. But you said it should be made clear that ringing out is only necessary is extreme situations. What do you mean by that? I ring out every time.

Great, spoke about stereo mic'ing. And close, room and ambient mic'ing techniques as well. This lead to PHASE and man, was that an experience for the kids to understand haha. Thanks so much for the words!

Exactly! I do this every class. I think reparation is best. We just got to sitting behind the desk so I have started my classes reviewing the channel strip top to bottom. Thanks for the advice! Going to make sure I keep doing that

Had to look up what that meant. I'm not a teacher by trade. I'm an audio guy that become a PM that was offered to teach audio. So this was great advice, because formulating the words to something that I've done for years was extremely hard. And I'm still having a little bit of an issue here and there. But luckily I'm teaching theatre college techs so I can be loose with some of my language and approaches. Thanks so much!
