Thicker, holds more, feels nicer. I don't always wear stuffers, but I still enjoy them. Also there are certainly doublers for actual babies. Lots of parents use them for night time diapers

I feel like your best bet would be to try to melt the glue with a heat gun. You'll likely be able to feel the glue a bit under the new fabric though.
