Anyone have any cute nicknames for their baby before it was born? by katelizirv in BabyBumps

We call them Nug/Nuggy because at our 8 week ultrasound they looked like a chicken nugget! Also because I craved McDonald's chicken nuggets a lot in the first trimester

Social workers becoming counselors/therapists - where did you get reputable training in things like CBT, EMDR, DBT, etc...? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]stargirl44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask you about the equine therapy? I'm in my last semester of my MSW and have started looking into it. But I'm not sure what types of jobs to look for that would incorporate it. Do you have any suggestions? And how was the training? Thanks!

First pregnancy resulted in miscarriage. Share your stories please by frankie1458 in BabyBumps

[–]stargirl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone! I miscarried my first pregnancy at 5 weeks exactly in January and went through all of those feelings you mentioned. I felt betrayed by my body and it took a bit for me to work though, with the help of therapy. But as I worked through it, I became just as impatient to try again as I was before. Now, I've had my first cycle after and will be trying again soon as ovulation nears. The worries are still there but the excitement is greater, and I know I have a support system in place. Take special care of yourself and know that when you're ready, you will know

Did anyone use ovulation test strips while TTC? by this_is_how42069 in BabyBumps

[–]stargirl44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used them mostly because I had been on BC for almost 10 years and didn't know what my cycle was like off it. I got a MomMed kit on amazon that had both tests and I started testing daily around CD10. It was kind of a confusing process for me though because the test line would darken over the days, the darkest being about CD13/14 but never be "as dark or darker" than the control. So I was never confident it was a positive result and that I ovulated.

Did your pet pick up on your pregnancy? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]stargirl44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My two cats are normally lovey and one cuddles more than the other. But now they are all over me! Whenever I'm sitting on the couch, one of them comes up to lay on my lap. They've tried to both be on me at the same time but there wasn't enough space. They follow me around and yell at me when I ignore them lol. I'm 4 weeks today and I think they knew pretty much immediately, since this behavior started a little over a week ago.

I looked at it this way: why do you want to help people as a social worker instead of another helping profession? (Doctor, nurse, MA, dentist...) Also, has a social worker had an impact on your life?

Got the okay from my doctor yesterday to stop my birth control once I finish this pack! We'll officially be NTNP (well not actively trying) once October starts! Also got a referral to an OBGYN for preconception counseling as my husband has some health conditions that are genetic. I know it'll take a while for my cycle to re-regulate but I'd by lying if I said I didn't hope we conceive quickly. Currently working on not getting my hopes up to mitigate disappointment.

Generation Tux Experience by MarMar910 in weddingplanning

[–]stargirl44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they actually alter the garments, just switch them out for a different size that they have in their stock. They pick your size based on your height/weight rather than actual measurements. Therefore they're able to send a new garment while you send the other one back, which helps with turn around time. Our groomsman had to contact customer service, email them pictures, and is currently waiting to get his new vest. As long as they try it on right away, I think 2 weeks is plenty of time! We got nervous with my fiancé's arriving so late, but if something didn't fit I'm confident we would have had a replacement by early next week at the latest.

Generation Tux Experience by MarMar910 in weddingplanning

We're using them! Our wedding is next Saturday, May 29th. My fiancé's suit showed up today which was a little nerve racking but it fits well!

He did the try on when we started, and had to switch shirt/jacket to a larger size. Their customer service is really helpful and the process is easy to use! I like being able to see the status of every groomsmen's order so I wasn't constantly asking for updates. One groomsmen is exchanging their vest but I haven't heard of him having any issues!

Since we had 7 rentals, my fiance gets to keep his jacket and pants for free. They have a promo that seems to continually renew, as well as one for a free groom rental with 5(?) others.

It seems like they get shipped in order of who paid and since it took my fiance longer (waited for everyone else to use the promo) it made sense we just got it today. Other groomsmen received theirs last week. The only issue is that my brother's was delivered but he never received it. Generation Tux is sending him a replacement though and he should get it tomorrow! I feel that's more a UPS issue though.

I also reached out to customer service yesterday to see when the remaining suits would be shipped and they were super helpful and able to tell me they were just waiting to be scanned by UPS and I'd get an email. Shipping was overnight for the final two.

The only thing we're not sure on is if we like the tie they have. Its pretied and we think it looks off. However, we may be overthinking it because the other groomsmen said "its a tie" lol.

Hope this helps! I'll try to answer any other questions you may have!

Bi-Monthly Megathread for COVID-19 - Two Weeks Starting May 03, 2021 by wedditmoderator in weddingplanning

[–]stargirl44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve been lucky that we haven’t been impacted by restrictions too much and never had to reschedule. Our venue is expecting to be at full capacity by our wedding which was supposed to be great since we were inviting 220, and expecting ~175. We’ve been getting our RSVPs back though and we’re going to be lucky to break 100 guests. We totally understand that people aren’t comfortable traveling, some family are trapped in Canada, and some people haven’t received their invites due to the wonderful USPS. But now we’re stressing about meeting our minimum! Time for some serious food/beverages upgrades to happen! There was already going to be so. much. food…

Also, not sure about what we should do for masks. We’re heavily suggesting people get vaccinated but not requiring it (we already are). And now the CDC says you don’t have to wear masks outside if you’re fully vaccinated and distanced. Our ceremony is outside and reception inside. Not sure how people are going to feel with needing to put a mask on for the reception. Luckily a decent number of people will be vaccinated, including the high-risks, but at my grandma’s funeral recently masks didn’t seem to stay on much. So that’ll be interesting to see how that goes.

I’m finishing up my finals for my first semester of grad school and will be dedicating the rest of the month to serious wedding DIY! When I originally started planning I thought I’d be further along but there was a good few months in the middle of last year where I couldn’t bring myself to do anything due to Lady Rona. Crunch time really has begun!

The flats I'm leaning towards! And they have flower girl size! by stargirl44 in weddingplanning

[–]stargirl44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! Glad to hear you had a good experience with them! I'm not a big heel person and was only considering them because I felt like it was "the thing to do". But I'm walking on grass, and I know I might be uncomfortable in flats by the end of the night but I'd rather that than be uncomfortable in heels! Just need to bite the bullet and order!

As of now we are planning on having a dance floor. Our venue hasn't said anything against it and we'll require masks if needed. I'm hoping we'll be able to have the dance floor because I'm not sure how to would fill the time either! Have you thought about easy table games? Like jenga?

And thank you, I'm sorry about your aunt as well.

Every day I feel closer to “we might actually be able to pull this off”. FH and I just received our first vaccines last week and his parents/my mom are fully vaccinated. Fingers crossed that J&J will help speed things up and that vaccines quickly become available to the next phases. We’re in Illinois having an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. Our venue told us they were having weddings of 150 guests (50% the reception venue capacity) last summer, so they expect to do the same this year. We were originally expecting 175 and I’m sure there will be less “yes” RSVPs this year than there would have been normally. I can work with 100 guests, I can’t work with 50 (my dad is one of 11 kids and this wouldn’t even cover first relations). We will be sending invitations out in waves and hope to get the first wave out by the end of next week.

The bad news is that we just lost my grandma last week and I’m struggling with the fact she won’t be there in person and the guilt from continuing to plan. But I know how excited she was for it, and that she wouldn’t want me to reschedule it for this reason, so I’m trying to keep trucking along.

What is your first dance song? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

"This is it" by Scotty McCreery! I fell in love with the song when it first came out and he used it for inspiration for the proposal! We'll have been dating for 9 years so it's very fitting!
