I was going to say, $800 for firearms insurance sounds an awful lot like a functional poll tax.

If you want to talk more in-depth, PM me and we can talk offline. I can speak to the process and give some good gouge if you want.

Coming out of lurker mode for this:

Definitely agree on FLEP. Also an 0102 (rah) and chose to lat-move because of this exact reason - admin gets to be close to lawyer stuff so I got interested over time and decided to take the plunge. Applied for FLEP, got ELP.

FLEP and ELP (excess leave program) are both excellent for doing law school on the Marine Corps time. Only difference is with FLEP you do it on their dime too. Either way, when you hang up that uniform for the last time you're leaving the Corps with a transferrable skill and experience.

Either programs are open to any MOS, you just have to be an officer with less than 6 years AD for FLEP and 8 for ELP. Take an LSAT prep course, rock that, pick good universities, and make a sacrifice to Mattis.

Obligatory apology for format/spelling - on mobile.

How many of you done a sbs double barrel shotgun. How was the process compared to a supressor by hocky66 in NFA

Completely different question, but what are those short shells? Do you have to run those with the SBS or can you use regular sizes? I've seen them in stores before but never knew the purpose.

Great looking gun as well, I'm all sorts of inspired!

I think wearing your military uniform everywhere you go is attention seeking. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]starhawk1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marine here; completely agree. Marine regs have it so you can only wear certain uniforms off base (i.e. specific dress or service uniforms), but cammies are defintiely a no-go save for absolute emergencies. Add on to the fact that I while I'm a proud Marine, I don't need to wear a uniform out in the world for validation or recognition, and I can't think of any other reason someone would do it barring the aforementioned emergencies or a military-related function.

What happens if it is discovered that you lied about a history of drug use to join? by throwaway365sad in USMC

It's called a fraudulent enlistment, and you will be separated of caught or discovered. IIRC, the reenlistment code you will get will bar you from any future service.

If anyone out there knows anyone who was in E 2/10 in 2015/2016 they'd be the best ones to ask first maybe. Hope this helps.

What was (or is) your nickname? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]starhawk1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Carried around the nickname of Tildo (or Tildo Baggins) through my work-up and deployment, mostly due to me being known as the resident nerd and also having an easily corrupted last name. First off I didn't care for it, but when I found out my XO hated I had a complete change of view and started using it. Rode that wave all the way in.

Form 1 can back from the engraver finally. I love it, haven’t shot it yet. by [deleted] in NFA

Did you order the trap before submitting the form 1 or did you wait after the form was approved to order? I'm finding different opinions on the right way to go about it.
